Berit Yum! Yum! I specialize in eating cakes that taste good and look like a 12-year-old decorated them :-) I think most of my books, will fit multiple challenges. I am doing three team challenges right now. I enjoy the team challenges, Waymore than the individual ones!

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 504 comments I.usually have four or five books going at a time. Short attention span requires multiple choices of things to read. If i only had one book going, I'd get bored and put it down. Multiple books let me switch to a different one when i get bored.

Allison Ann | 502 comments I feel kind of dumb, I just realized I have book #11 in the Temperance Brennan series sitting here waiting to be read. :) Ah well.

ROLL #1, SPOT #11
Series or Alternate: standalone

Envy by Sandra Brown by Sandra Brown

Book: Envy
Series or Alternate: standalone
Date finished: 03/21/15
Rating: 3 stars
Review: This novel was written partly as a novel within a novel. One of the MCs was writing a novel, pages of which were posted whole within the Sandra Brown book. It's not particularly a device I enjoy in my reading and quite unfortuitously, I had just put down a book using the same idea because it was annoying me to no end. Brown didn't use it quite as much as the other book (and in that one the author was a cocaine addict in the grasp of a nervous breakdown, so extra annoying), so I soldiered through. The story itself was pretty basic romantic suspense. I figured out the twists by myself fairly early on, but honestly I read Sandra Brown at least in part for a vacation from thinking so it wasn't a bad book at all.

Is it next Friday yet?

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Dang - good job Allison Ann!! Awesome we have one in already!!

I should be able to post my review tomorrow. It was definitely an odd/different read...

Saw Four Insurgent tonight.. ;)

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 504 comments Wow. I'm impressed that you've finished and reviewed. I had a hard time trying into my book. Now I'm working fairly quickly through it, but I probably won't finish until Monday night at the earliest.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments I finished my book last nightvwill get my review up tomorrow.

message 108: by Berit (new)

Berit Great job! I will try to get my review up no later than Tuesday. How was your field trip? And your lacrosse weekend?

Week 1 - Review for Spot #11 (Standalone Book)
=============================================================
Ugly Girls by Lindsay Hunter
Book: Ugly Girls
Read: 3/22/15
Rating: ☆☆☆
Review:
I finished this book yesterday but I'm still not sure what to think of it, although I find I still am... It was quite a depressing read about 2 sad girls - Perry and "Baby Girl". Two friends - and I use the term loosely - who lived on the desolate side of the tracks and got their kicks stealing and mouthing off to people. The book blurb said one girl ugly on the outside and one girl ugly on the inside, but honestly I had trouble finding beauty anywhere within these pages. The story touched on the family life of both girls.. which was also depressing. The girls end up finding themselves in a more serious situation than they had intended and the book centers mostly on how they resolve it. The ending was probably more realistic than the neat and tidy resolutions I tend to like... but I guess that is part of why I find myself still thinking about it even today.

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Our lacrosse weekend was cold and windy but they won all their games so that made it worth the chill! LOL!

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments The field trip went well. My group of girls were well behaved and I had no problems with them.

message 112: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 502 comments I'm always on the lookout for vowel titles, but Ugly Girls doesn't sound like something my library would buy anyway and it sounds very depressing. I'm just not in the mood for sad reading these days. The sun is shining, the snow is sort of melting, the deer are merrily flinging themselves in front of my car every day - happily ever after is more of what I'm looking for now. :D

Yay for lacrosse wins.

Cold Burn of Magic (Black Blade #1) by Jennifer Estep
4 Stars
Finished 3/22/15

Review:
I really enjoyed this one and again it shows why I love this author. She creates such fun worlds full of action and magic. I loved the town of Cloudburst Falls and all the magic, monsters and families that were mixed in. Lila was a great heroine and I loved that she could hold her own and take care of herself. I have to say that a lot of what happens towards the middle book was pretty easy to figure out. I saw a lot of it coming before it did but it was still great to see it all come together.

message 114: by Berit (new)

Berit Great job team!! I'm starting my book today, the one I want to use for this challenge. It is pretty short so I will try to get my review in by tomorrow.

Yea, although a bit thought provoking, it's not one I would necessarily recommend for sure. Plenty of other vowel-books out there better than this one.. I may have to take a peek at my read books and see if I have any to recommend.

message 116: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments @Shy - Looks like one I would like as I'm a big Estep fan too. :)

message 117: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments @Allison Anne - Not sure if you've read any, but here are some of my favorite vowel books:
On the Island
Angelfall
Ugly Love
The Assassin's Blade
The Eighth Guardian
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

On the Island (On the Island, #1) by Tracey Garvis-Graves Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover The Assassin's Blade (Throne of Glass, #0.1-0.5) by Sarah J. Maas The Eighth Guardian (Annum Guard, #1) by Meredith McCardle The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1) by Michelle Hodkin

message 118: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Although, as I posted that I remembered you are not a fan of YA - so maybe just Ugly Love & On the Island!

message 119: by Berit (new)

Berit I added some of those to my list :-) I am reading a vowel book right now The Ocean at the End of the Lane, another good Val book is The Other Typist, if you like on reliable narrator's, this was a really good read. We read it from I am person Book club and had a really good discussion. Nobody seem to agree on what actually happened.

message 120: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments I think I have The Ocean at the End of the Land on my TBR. Let me know how you like!

message 121: by Berit (new)

Berit It is unusual right now, but in a good way.

message 122: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments I usually give points for originality. :)

message 123: by Berit (new)

Berit I have read a lot of young adult lately, and find a lacking in originality. I love the characters, but some of the storylines are so darn predictable. So, this is been a refreshing change of pace :-)

message 124: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 502 comments Yeah, YA has to be pretty special for me to enjoy it. I've read On the Island and it was pretty good. Never read any Colleen Hoover, my library doesn't carry her.

message 126: by Berit (new)

Berit I did my taxes yesterday, so I didn't have as much reading time as I would have liked. I will try to submit my review tonight and at the latest tomorrow morning :-) I have read books that would fit, but this is the one I guess in my mind I want to report ;-)

message 127: by Denise (new)

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 504 comments I won't get to my review until tomorrow afternoon. You all are quick! I'm still not quite finished with my book yet.

message 128: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Well, it's only Tuesday so you both still have plenty of time! :)

message 129: by Berit (new)

Berit Week one,The ocean at the end of the lane finished:03/24
Review: I don't know how one book can be so beautiful and so creepy at the same time. This was a book about childhood memories with a purpose. It made me think is anyone's life more valuable than anyone else's? The book sucked you into a world of magic that literally gave me goosebumps. I would recommend this book to all.*****

Allison Ann | 502 comments Way to go team.

Just finished my very yummy supper. Friends with much more free time than me went ice fishing and brought us a trout. DEEEElicious.

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 504 comments To Kill a Mockingbirdis one of those books that I should have read in high school but didn't. I'm glad I didn't as a child, because looking at it with what I know as an adult, through the eyes of a child, hit me harder. The first few chapters didn't really grab me, but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down.

Finished 3/25

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Great job team all reviews are in.

message 133: by Berit (new)

Berit Great job team!! Ready for the next roll :-) how has everyone's week been?? I've been busy with kids projects, meetings for next year, and today I am going prom dress shopping with my daughter :-)

message 134: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Awesome first week! So nice not being down to the wire.. :)

message 135: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Prom shopping sounds fun Berit! My son is trying to figure out what to do about prom this year. He's a senior and his gf is in college and can't be here that weekend... He "thinks" he wants to go with a girl who's his friend.. But his gf isn't too keen on that plan...

Otherwise, we have been busy with my sons lacrosse season and my daughters gothic revival project.. (**ugh**) and trying to figure out spring break plans...

message 136: by Berit (new)

Berit Both my kids are going to prom this year, quite expensive for me :-) my daughters boyfriend goes to a different high school, so fortunately they aren't going to both proms :-) my son is going with the boys, most of his friends graduated last year, so I don't think he will have as much fun as he did last year, To be honest I was trying to talk him out of going, but that did not work. I'm just trying not to think of how much money I will be spending on this prom. Believe me if my daughters boyfriend went to prom without her, all hell would break loose :-)

message 137: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments I think the same. He & his gf went last year and had a great time. My sons stepmom is strongly encouraging him to go, however, bc she thinks he will regret not going. (She is also not a fan of his GF so I think that is part if it too.). I am trying not to give an opinion... Although I love his gf and totally understand her view...

message 138: by Berit (new)

Berit My high school boyfriend was in college and I did not go to my senior prom, and I do not regret it to this day and I am now 45 :-)

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Yep great first week for us. My week has been the normal level of crazy. My weekend is full of softball. My oldest has a game Saturday then all day tournament on Sunday and another game Monday night. The youngest also has soccer practice Monday before the game. I am so not ready to even think about prom yet and am glad I have a few more years before my oldest thinks about it.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments I will post our roll around 6 am before I head to work.

message 146: by K~Terror (new)
