Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent by Judi Dench and Brendan O'Hea.
A series of interviews with Judi Dench in which she discusses her acting career of seven decades. The memoir is full of interesting anecdotes and insights into the plays and characters. The style is conversational. Dench is unpretentious and an absolute delight. Highly recommended for lovers of Shakespeare, the theatre, and fans of Judi Dench.

Booker Prize winners and I rarely gel with each other, so feel free to take my feedback with a dollop of salt.

Hecatontagonal Stew A Collection of 100 Hundred-Word Stories by Kyle A. Massa
Exactly as the cover suggests. A fun, multi-genre compilation of micro fiction. Not Kyle Massa's best, but a good collection nonetheless.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments It's been on my self for several months, but I finally got to read
Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
A member of the Potawatomi Nation and an academic scientist, Kimmerer blends science, personal insights, indigenous wisdom, mythology, and culture to articulate the lessons of healing and reciprocity we can garner from plants. Her writing is lyrical and inspiring.

That bland cover almost made me miss this book. Thanks to a friend's glowing 5 star review that brought it on my radar. This is one of the best historical fiction works I have read in months!

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I re-read Whereabouts by Jhumpa Lahiri. I enjoyed it so much more this time around than I did when I first read it a few years ago. It's in the first-person voice of a literature professor in her 40s and consists of a series of her meditations presented as short vignettes. The cumulative effect is a powerful portrayal of the internal landscape of a solitary life.

Had I empathized with the characters' actions, I might have rated this even higher. But it is still a memorable read with a novel plot idea.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 425 comments Three distinct graphic novels with somewhat distinct outcomes:
1. Turtle Bread: A Graphic Novel About Baking, Fitting In, and the Power of Friendship by Kim-Joy
Turtle Bread A Graphic Novel About Baking, Fitting In, and the Power of Friendship by Kim-Joy
Adult graphic novel, but feels YA. The author is a baker, so the baking content is great;. The rest, not so much.

2. Ellie in First Position: A Graphic Novel by Brian Freschi
Ellie in First Position A Graphic Novel by Brian Freschi
Middle-grade graphic novel. Could have been great but ended up just okay.

3. Blasfamous by Mirka Andolfo

Strictly for adults. Mindblowing but also horrifying. Not recommended to conservative believers.
