Hope The Thing With Feathers by B. Morris Allen
A good short story collection, as long as you are prepared for dark content. I wasn't! Better for YA readers.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read The Library of Ancient Wisdom: Mesopotamia and the Making of the Modern World by Selena Wisnom. A fascinating exploration of the legacy of ancient Mesopotamia. Prof. Wisnom is an Assyriologist. Her study is very readable, thoroughly documented, and with an extensive bibliography and notes.

All Princesses Die Before Dawn by Quentin Zuttion
A brilliant graphic novel set against the backdrop of Princess Diana's death. Great for those who enjoy character-oriented storylines with tough themes.

Something, Not Nothing: A Story of Grief and Love by Sarah Leavitt
Something, Not Nothing A Story of Grief and Love by Sarah Leavitt
This graphic novel might work for readers with a greater philosophical bent of mind. Not for me though.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 425 comments The Secret Book Society by Madeline Martin
The Secret Book Society by Madeline Martin
A historical fiction, but not exactly a book about books unlike what the title suggests. Goes quite dark, especially in the final section. A good book as long as you go in with the right expectations.

Silenced Voices Reclaiming Memories from the Guatemalan Genocide by Pablo Leon
A graphic novel highlighting the Dos Erres Massacre in Guatemala in 1982. Harrowing!

It's All Absolutely Fine by Ruby Elliot
A graphic memoir combining text and comics. Too boring and whiny for my taste. But mine is an outlier opinion.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 425 comments The Favourites by Layne Fargo
The Favourites by Layne Fargo
A sports romance-drama loosely inspired by Wuthering Heights! I loved this! Not for those who prefer likeable characters in fiction.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read Fundamentally by Nussaibah Younis. The novel unfolds in the first-person voice of Nadia Amin who is sent by the UN to rehabilitate former ISIS brides held in refugee camps in Iraq. I thought the novel presented a disappointing and flippant treatment of a serious and complex issue.

Cut Off from Sky and Earth by Melissa F. Miller
This book caught me by surprise. A clever psychological thriller without the usual tropes. Enjoyed this a lot!

The Hit: Super Great Kids' Stories: From storytellers around the world by Kim Normanton
Super Great Kids' Stories From storytellers around the world by Kim Normanton
Probably one of the best compilations I have read of folktales and fables from around the world. An excellent bedtime companion and gift option.

The Michaelmas Daisy by Paul Marriner
A contemporary fiction narrated from the point of view of a ghost. Could have been great had I liked the narrator. But the remaining characters saved the day.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read Shakespeare Saved My Life by Laura Bates.
I know this is a group read for this month and I'm a little early. But there was a wait list for it at the library, and I didn't want to lose my place in line. I'm always a little out of sync with group reads because I rely heavily on the library and the books come in either too early or to late.

Nesting by Roisín O’Donnell
An Irish literary fiction, this has one of the best portrayals of an abusive relationship. Excellent for a debut work.

The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks by Shauna Robinson
A contemporary romance with an annoying main character. You might like the book better if you can tolerate her.
