Into the Uncut Grass by Trevor Noah
This one is a reflective illustrated chapter book for kids and adults. I loved its themes.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell.
I think this must be either the 6th or 7th book I've ready by O'Farrell, and I've loved them all. This was no exception. She is such a remarkable author with so much range and depth.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam (Hart and Mercy, #3) by Megan Bannen
A mostly disappointing ending to the Hart and Mercy series. 2025 just isn't my year when it comes to series reads. 😕

Squid Boy Raven Girl by R.R. Davis
Partially a case of "it's not you, it's me.' Never thought a book with such a cover would be so disturbing.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read A Registry of My Passage Upon the Earth: Stories by Daniel Mason.
A wonderful collection of short stories. I enjoyed them as much as I've enjoyed Mason's novels. He has a vibrant imagination and great story-telling skills.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 425 comments The Quiet Librarian by Allen Eskens
The Quiet Librarian by Allen Eskens
A dual-timeline mystery, with the historical timeline being focussed on the Bosnian war. Triggering content, but great storyline. My first book by this author, and it won't be the last.

Not as good as her debut adult cozy fantasy, but a nice entertainer nonetheless.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I've been raving about all the books I've read by Daniel Mason. I picked up his A Far Country from the library while waiting for my holds to come. I was disappointed. I think some people loved the novel, but it just wasn't for me. It is such a departure from his other novels. It had a distinctly allegorical feel, which I didn't think worked very well.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read The True True Story of Raja the Gullible by Rabih Alameddine. Sixty-three-year-old Raja's relationship with his mother is laugh out loud hilarious. It's one of the best books I've read all year. Alameddine skillfully weaves the last sixty years of Lebanon's history with the antics of Raja and his outrageous mother.

Started off well, but the final quarter was OTT. Still, an entertaining novel for the most part.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 425 comments Three books in an upcoming historical fiction series by J.H. Foster. The WWII story setting might be done but the approach makes this series different.

1. The Rebellious Maus and the Pogrom
The Rebellious Maus and the Pogrom (Rebels and Resistance) by J.H. Foster
The prequel that fulfils its duty well.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

2. Sewing Resistance - Seamstress, spy, survivor?
Sewing Resistance - Seamstress, spy, survivor? (Rebels and Resistance) by J.H. Foster
The main novel, written from the point of view of a young Jewish mother and aimed at adult readers.

3. Boy, Resisting - Silent, Spy, Survivor?
Boy, Resisting - Silent, Spy, Survivor? (Rebels and Resistance) by J.H. Foster
A companion novel with the same events as in the main novel, but written from the point of view of her young son and aimed at tweens and younger teens.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The set is surprisingly effective as a package deal. I love the idea of a parent-child buddy read with such a series.
