Task 30.1 Katrina's Task: I love Santa Fe!

To celebrate the wonderful town of Santa Fe, New Mexico, read two books from options.

I love Santa Fe too so I am really excited to participate in this task!

Book 1: Option 2
When in Santa Fe, Katrina likes to shop for jewelry because there is a big assortment of silver jewelry avowable for sale.

read a book with the word "Silver" in the title.

Shopping? Jewelry? Silver? I'm in!
I read the wonderful book Silver Boat by one of my favorite summer authors, Luanne Rice.

The Silver Boat

What a WONDERFUL novel! It is about three sisters who are facing losing their family property in Martha's Vineyard because of taxes (I can relate) They go on a trip to Ireland to find their missing father in hopes that they will be able to find a land claim he said made the land in America theirs. I enjoyed the nostalgia, the visit to Ireland that gave me some clues on how to find Irish ancestors and the five cats in the story. And it sure made me cry!

Book 2: Option 5 : Get your kicks on Route 66 !

To honor historic Route 66 that passes through Santa Fe, and which served as a primary route for those migrating west especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, read a book set in the 1930s.

I chose this task because I am a real fan of anything Rout 66. I can remember it going on vacation from Texas to California. I read a book last year about two guys who went in search of historic Rout Route 66 and am delighted to see there are so many more available. None actually set in the 1930s though.

So since I had a pretty good idea that most books set in the 1930s would be s tragic, I read The Reluctant Midwife by Patricia Harman. It is the second book in the Hope River series.

The Reluctant Midwife

Yep, the book is just full of tragedy and angst but it is a really great read! I really felt like it portrayed a fairly accurate picture of The Great Depression too. There were a couple cats around and I cried. Buckets.
