“You're a "chibi", and nobody notices you." Halfway good-looking people, according to Ricki, blended into the crowd. They never left any kind of strong impression. They were bland and anonymous. Ugly people, on the other hand, with fleshy noses or thin lips, always attracted attention.”
Naomi Hirahara, Summer of the Big Bachi

“He needed to find that hard place inside that would center him like the middle of a compass. Throughout his life, the needle would point in various directions, but he would have to know where he stood.”
Naomi Hirahara, Snakeskin Shamisen

“Meetings were for wasting time, created by and for high-tone people to justify their existence.”
Naomi Hirahara, Gasa-Gasa Girl

Naomi Hi, Beth.

We haven't met, but you were one of the mystery authors who inspired me to join Facebook (maybe through Murder Must Advertise). I think that you were one of my first FB friends! Maybe we'll meet each other in person at Left Coast Crime. Forgive me for taking so long to reply via goodreads. Still learning this all.
