The Stopover by T. L. Swan

Pages: 521
How it fits: by author T. L. Swan
Date completed: 10/4/21
Rating: 4.5 ⭐
Review: The Stopover is my first T. L. Swan, and indeed it won't be the last one. The truth is I am giving this book 4.5-stars.
I can understand the reviews about the length of the book. The fighting between Emily & Jameson, our main couple, at some point got into me, but at the same time, the sexy time tipped the balance.
Emily, the heroine, isn't this naive, meek woman who bends to the hero's every whim. There could've easily been an uncomfortable power imbalance, the fact that the heroines can give as much as they take made me love this book.
The Stopover is going to piss a lot of people off. A douche hero who can't commit and a heroine that can't decide whether she's in or out will frustrate many. I couldn't put it down and had no issues with the drama, mainly because I thought the ending was top-notch.
I am looking forward to reading the following books of the "Miles High Club" series and T. L Swans's other books.

Review: The first part of this book had some funny sections. Then it trickled out. Cassidy is terminated from her job at a local factory but a new place is opening up and she goes for an open interview. The boss is hot and offers Cassidy the general manager position. It’s a retail job selling sex toys and related items. A lot of the book is set in Cassidys street Violet or Violent circle as it’s known. People walk around naked, smoke weed, spray each other with poison ivy water and generally do crazy things. Once Cassidy gets involved with Wyatt the rich owner, I felt it wasn’t as good. Still an interesting read though.

Review — While this book is on the shorter side, it is still a pretty great story! It’s always fun to catch up with Eve and her team, and—of course—Roarke. I didn’t realize there is a book that is sort of a prequel to this one written under Ms. Robb’s other name, Nora Roberts. Next time I reread this series, I’ll be sure to read that story before enjoying this one again.

I know you had a post ready to go. I'll wait until I'm about to go to bed before posting on the check in thread since you already had a nice post ready to go.

A Summer Wedding For The Cornish Midwife: by Jo Bartlett]

Pages: 280 pages
How it fits: Takes place in Port Agnes, England U. K.
Date completed: October, 5 2021
Rating: 3.75 ⭐
Review: Well, I decided that I needed to tackle my KU books. A Summer Wedding For The Cornish Midwife is a book I borrowed in July of 2021. While reading the book during the summer would have been wise, it got picked for the fall. Goodreads has it as a standalone, while Amazon says it is the second book of The Cornish Midwife Series.
I've always had a soft spot for stories set in Devon and Cornwall and look forward to such novels, especially if the author takes the opportunity to immerse readers in the setting.
Anna was such a beautiful character. I loved how supportive she was towards one of her clients, a woman who lived with past eating disorders and mental health. Anna and Brae were also a wonderfully supportive couple, especially regarding the possible future of no biological children. Brae was willing to help Anna talk out their different options and give her the reassurances she needed to face such a future. This book dealt with some compassionate issues that some readers might find hard to read about, but author Bartlett handled each case was care and love. It gave the reader one of the essential pieces of advice- "They are not alone in their struggles!"
At times, the reader might be frustrated by Anna's second-guessing her worthiness, but as the story unfolds and all her insecurities are laid bare, it's easy to understand just why she's as she is. So much of Anna's presentation is based on her past joys and hurts. As a reader, you are going on a journey as we see Anna relearn what a family might look like for her.
I have some trouble with the ending as it is predictable; even though I can understand it, I think I would have wanted to end a little differently than expected.

Love Only Me, Amanda Mariel & Dawn Brower – 10/5/21 – ✮✮✮✰✰
Kindle first-edition ➔ 150 pages
How the Book Qualifies ➔ from the précis: “...Lady Narissa moves with ease between London’s elite and its seedier occupants…”
Review — What a fun story with an unexpected heroine! Lady Narissa is a strong, independent woman who relies on no man to help her make her way. Raised by her father, she is very comfortable in the man’s world of horse racing and is an accomplished rider/jockey. The Duke of Blackmore is a typical man at this point in history. He is truly scandalized that a *gasp* woman dares to jockey and is infuriated when she brushes him off. These two go round for round until they inevitably fall in love. The ending was a bit rushed and I would have loved to have more meat in this book, but all-in-all a good read!

How it fits: set in England on main book page
Date completed: 10/6/21
Rating: *3.5 STARS*
*3.5 STARS rounded up to 4 STARS* for the fantastic narration!
I really liked this story. Logan and Darcy were so different but they were perfect for each other. I hated the way that Logan acted after a scare in their relationship. And the fact that he thought he could just fix things so quickly.
But he redeemed himself and the epilogue was cute too. And like I said, the narration was great. I for one would listen to Shane East read anything to me. *sigh*

The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg

Pages: 226 pages
How it fits: Takes place in London, England U. K.
Date completed: October, 6 2021
Rating: 3 ⭐
Review: The Paper Magician is a book I heard about a long time ago. As I am fairly new to reading the fantasy genre, I hesitated reading the book. Well, one of my reading challenges is reading a book set outside the U. S., so when I saw that The Paper Magician is part of the Kindle Unlimited bandle, I knew it was time to read the first installment of the series because it takes place in England.
I believe if you are into origami or even paper crafting, you will enjoy the plot. The idea of the magic system is very innovative. Initially, I found the magical portions to be very intriguing and creative and settled in for an entertaining read. As the story moved along, I became disappointed as I felt the book didn't live up to its potential.
It will take me some time to pick the second installment of the series.

Enchanted By The Earl, Amanda Mariel & Dawn Brower – 10/6/21 – ✮✮✮✰✰

How the Book Qualifies ➔ tagged regency-england-1811-1820 x1
Review — Another good story by this writing duo. I enjoyed both lead characters. Both have a strong core strength and sense of honor. I love how Rose is, for the most part, a proper lady, but isn’t afraid to buck tradition to try to save herself. The Earl has quite a few moments where his station trumps his common sense, but overall he is a good man who, through the course of helping a young woman, comes to love her regardless of her lower station.

Oh my goodness...I hope he's OK!

Oh m..."
Managed to avoid artery but muscle and they suspect slight tendon damage. He can still move his fingers but when he bends his hand back is in pain. He’s milking the not being able to do anything. That was the first day he’s been back at work on a customer site since Feb last year! Caused a health and safety nightmare for the site and his work. Can’t be trusted!

Yikes! I'm glad he's OK, but sorry you had to handle that.

Agreed, Avigail. And Hazel, I already read a second book since I didn't know that Kathy was and came to post it and saw that she had already read one. So if you need to pass no worries, we've got you covered!!!
