Yes, I am all about the fun and at least remembering the books I read.
I only feel bad for the inconvenience. The good thing about this mistake is that I read another book from my TBR, and I found a new author with a couple of books to read.

Here is your next task!
Task 26 - 60. Read 6 books with MPG Historical Romance.
Books selected for this task need to be MPG Historical Romance. 'Historical' and 'Romance' do not need to be combined and can be combined with other words like 'MM Romance', but both must be MPG.

Thanks Kat! Ooh new kitchen that’s exciting.

Review — My only complaint about this book is that it was too short. I loved the banter between Amelia and Sheffield. Amelia is not a woman to be halted by a stubborn Viscount. She is used to running things her way in her brother’s, the Duke’s, home. And when a lightning strike destroys the ballroom traditionally used for the annual Sheffield Christmastide soiree, Amelia takes it upon herself to plan the event in an alternate location. Of course, Sheffield couldn’t care less about the event, but is intrigued by the precise and extremely logical woman who explains how this will occur. Amelia also manages to pull this off 12 days before Christmas! While this is a short book, both characters are rich and vibrant. Their insecurities and strengths shine through as well as their growing attraction to each other. Theirs is a story I wish to visit again after the happily ever after.

I have changed my book based on what I was able to get first but will still be done tonight.

Wow, Kathy you are in the groove!
If you read two and Hazel reads two then Avigail and I will only have to read one. So I think we're good. Maybe have one on standby if Hazel has something come up tomorrow when she gets up. Cuz...you know...life!

Review: I wasn’t gripped by this at all. The story lacked a lot of depth for me. There wasn’t much mystery or information about the time period although passing reference was made to the suffragette movement. Harriet pretends to everyone she is widowed due to a scandal in her youth causing her to flee her home and assume a new name. She owns a millinery and Guy comes into the shop one day looking for a hat to give to a paramour as a way of ending their relationship. He doesn’t do anything of substance but Hattie spends time with him and this causes him to want to change his ways. Quite a one dimensional story.

Review: Benedict is a different kind of person from his other brothers. Yes, I have read the three first books of the series, and for now, I would say that An Offer From a Gentleman is my favorite.
I would like to have more glimpses of Daphne, Simon, Anthony & Kate; simultaneously, I understand that the book has to be about the couple.
Sophie's story is a Cinderellesc one; even though Sophie has a mean stepmother and one stepsister, the second stepsister is more caring.
I can undoubtedly say that my favorite character in the series is Violet, the mother hen that knows how to divide equally her love to all her children and to whoever truly needs it.
Sophie has her head on her shoulders and knows where she stands and what she wants from her life. Sophie doesn't want to become her mother, and she doesn't want to be a mistress.
Quinn's story is how I'd picture a regency romance to be. There's a secret, a fab couple, believable problems, strong main characters and secondary characters, great sexual tension, brilliant writing, and all set against a beautiful regency backdrop.
I am looking forward to reading Colin & Penelope's story next.

I brought my laptop to work to write the completion as soon as I finished the book.

Thanks Avigail. Kathy and I are both reading a 2nd book so you don’t need to read another for this task.

Review — This was a sweet story, but lacked substance. It progressed at a good pace, but I never felt a connection to either Garrick or Hannah. I think there was too much inner dialog happening and not enough quality interaction between the characters. They obviously cared for each other, but many times when they were together in a scene one or both were snarly...that doesn’t really translate to love for me.

Ouch long days! I don’t have long left on my book. Will finish once I’ve made dinner.

*slow clap* This was amazing. It was hard to read because this didn't try to gloss over the indignity and injustice that slaves had to endure in the heritage that some so callously want to glorify, but it was amazing! There is just no other way to say it. Elle was badass. She had an eidetic memory and used that to advance the efforts of the Union against the Confederates and I was just cheering her on the entire way. I can't even imagine how hard it would be to be a free black person having to go undercover as a slave. There are just no words.
I can't imagine how conflicted she was getting mixed up with a white man when she knew exactly what she was fighting for. But that made their love that much more special. And that fact that he acknowledged that she was too good for him but that he would be seen as the "better" just because he was white and male really resonated.
But, beyond that. The thing that really just sat deep in my soul is the highlight of what all those people who celebrate that "Southern Heritage" are really celebrating...slavery...the notion that the color of your skin determines whether or not you deserve to be seen as human or not. I don't care what anyone *tries* to reason or explain away, that is what it comes down to.
And seeing/hearing it just made it that much more poignant. I just have to applaud this author because I know not all of it is not real but that historical accuracy she added to this book was an honor to struggle to what people in this country are still working for today!
And if you haven't figured it out, I WILL be continuing on with this series. There's no way you could keep me away!

Review: A mail order bride romance. In Haskell Wyoming, 3 of the occupants decide that a number of the men need wives. There is a woman’s refuge where a number of the residents would benefit from starting a new life. Charles, Virginia and Josephine decide that the first man to get a wife will be Franklin, Virginias nephew. Franklin was left badly injured 10 years before and uses braces to support his damaged legs. He is reluctant to have a bride feeling sorry for himself and not wanting to put pressure on a wife to have to look after a cripple. Corva has experienced violence at the hands of her uncle and looks at this opportunity as a fresh start. Both her and Franklin have a few communication issues but manage to sort them out in the end. An enjoyable but not mind blowing read.
