I think you should get some Grid miles in instead of WRC Generations ;)

More Dirt 5 last night for me. Coming to the end of chapter 3. Enjoying playing it again although every race does involve just smashing your way to the front ASAP. I wish there were a few more races against the clock to mix things up.

I've got access to all the expansions having bought the Year 1 pass previously. I'm not sure I'll do all those again, at least not straight away.

Error | 408 comments I'm not sure what compelled me, but I had the itch to re-download Shadows of Mordor over the weekend. I don't think I had touched it since 2015. I don't even recall caring much for it. I picked up where I left off, which was only a few hours in. This time around I'm really enjoying it. Took a lot of reading and experimentation to figure out that complex combat system but taking down hordes of uruks feels great. I just opened up a whole new map area and am looking forward to exploring it.

message 2053: by [deleted user] (new)

I was the same with Shadow of Mordor. I played it more or less on release and didn't like it at all. I then went back to it a year later and enjoyed it a lot more and even got the plat.

I was also only a few hours in but I restarted from scratch.

Yea I played and completed it too. I enjoyed it at the time but one of those games once done I feel I don't need to go back and play any sequels so never played Shadow of War.

I see Somerville is out on Games Pass - from one of the creators of Inside and Limbo. Looks amazing atmosphere wise but it's getting less than stellar reviews. 6-7/10.

message 2055: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Wasn't Shadow of War caught up in some micro-transaction controversy at the time it was released? That might have had something to do with the impression as well. Interesting that you had the same experience as me Equinox...cheers!

message 2056: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes Shadow of War released with a system geared towards micro transactions. They took them out after a backlash but the damage was already done.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments And unsurprisingly I had a different view of Shadow of War than the rest of the world ;) I'd bought it day one and didn't find anything wrong with it. There was a big end game grind I couldn't be bothered with (could be wrong but I think that's the main bit they changed) but if you just played the main story, I remember thinking the criticism was being completely blown out of proportion. I've not played it since it's been patched but if they've removed the end bit, it's probably pretty platable.

It was one of those games I've felt people took the stick to it for very little reason, when there were others just as guilty, that they seem to conveniently turn a blind eye to

I'm waiting for Ubisoft to release a patch for AC Syndicate. Not a fancy ps5-upgrade (wouldn't expect that for such an old game etc) but just one to make it run to an acceptable standard on ps5!!

message 2059: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I've read a lot of people saying that Syndicate was the best one. Personally haven't played one since Black Flag. Is Syndicate the London one?

message 2060: by [deleted user] (new)

Syndicate is good and a nice plat too. However, as far as I'm aware it's one of a small handful of PS4 games that won't run on PS5. That may have changed now though.

I have Syndicate and Unity in my backlog - for many many years. I'm kinda turned off AC after Valhalla - which became a massive slog. Although Syndicate is the old school AC so probably better for me.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Goat Sim 3 - yay or nay?.... I'm leaning towards yay....in fact there's was probably no point in asking...

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Error wrote: "I've read a lot of people saying that Syndicate was the best one. Personally haven't played one since Black Flag. Is Syndicate the London one?"

The best one? hmm...it's how you view it in relation to how 'good' it was when it came out out...in those terms I'd probably still say that Brotherhood is the best, but in terms of the Assassins Creed games overall, taking all measurements of how good a game is into account, if the 'traditional' AC games are more your thing, (i.e. before they became RPGs) then yes, Syndicate is by far the best. And yes it is the one in Victorian London.

I played it, completed it and absolutely loved it on ps4, and then it popped up cheap in a sale so I downloaded it for ps5...and literally just after I had re-bought it I started reading about how it doesn't run at all well on ps5 :(:( and indeed multiple youtube videos show the lighting issues on ps5 make it virtually unplayable. Ubisoft have said they're aware and will fix it, but when??

message 2064: by [deleted user] (new)

That's unlucky Phil as there are literally only a handful or less of games like that.

I've played more Dirt 5 and onto the 5th and final chapter now. I can use one of the DLC packs to grind out the 1000 miles driven trophy at the end. I'm so glad they patched that down from the original 10,000 miles!

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Picked up Goat Sim 3 and....... might have hawed a PSVR 2 pre-order

message 2066: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Deckard - you're out of control, it might be time for an intervention! Just kidding of course, you seem to get the most out of all your video game related purchases. Unlike me, with hundreds of games in the backlog.

Just read that Syndicate was one of only a few AC games that didn't get FPS boost for Series X. Auto HDR but 900P and 30FPS. There must be some wonky stuff with that game preventing it from a decent next gen upgrade.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Control? I have lots of Control. I mean I managed to plat it on both PS4 & PS5, how much Control do I need? We are talking about the Remedy game right ;)

Can't see me picking up much in the Black Friday sales though, which will help the old wallet.

message 2068: by [deleted user] (new)

In the PS store PS+ sale, it looks like if I pay £22.21 I can upgrade to PS+ Extra for the remainder of my PS+ sub (317 days).

Not sure if I'm reading that right but seems a little too good to be true.

Does anyone else have Extra or Premium? Is it worth it?

message 2069: by Phil, psn: p4tiny (new)

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Wrapped up Resi Village last night. Great fun, not in the least bit scary (Benevenito house was creepy and well done yes, but not scary). Got to say though that by the end it was hardly a Resi game any more; the whole factory section felt more like a modern Wolfenstein game! But still a great blast :) The whole game looked absolutely beautiful on ps5 too and ran almost flawlessly, a handful of milliseconds of performance blips notwithstanding. Nothing to fret about.

So I have rattled off Resi 7 and 8 both back-to-back. They both have trophies for speed-runs, 7 being under four hours and 8 under three hours. 7 took me 11hrs25mins, and 8 (in theory shorter) took me 12hrs6mins!! I am not built for speed-runs!!

Best way to check is to look at the games included at the moment. I had it for one month and played Miles Morales, Stray and Ghost of Tushima and it was well worth it. All depends. For me it's worth it if you play games you want to play and enough of them to justify for the cost. As I'm mainly games pass for me it saves me literally hundreds each year.

BTW - if you want to save even more buy a PSN voucher off cdkeys.com or shopto.net and you save a few extra quid.

message 2071: by [deleted user] (new)

I've already spotted Miles Morales, Guardians of the Galaxy and Stray as ones I'd definitely want to play. They're all one sale but for over double the £22 to upgrade by + sub.

My only worry is what happens if you're half way through a game and they remove it from the library. Does it become unplayable?

Yes it does from the extra and premium tiers. I think they give you a bit of advance warning. Generally I've not had a problem - I prioritise 'the-must-play' subscriptions games over paid games so I don't run the risk of missing out.

I've extended my PS+ essential sub for another year (to October 24) in the black friday sale. List price was £37.99 I think it was but I earned a free PS rewards point free £5 voucher recently, bought a £35 PSN voucher off shopto.net for £30.85. So extended for 12 months for £30.85 with a couple of quid free left over. Nay bad. I'm not going extra as I have a games pass sub and can only play so much - one day something will come on essential that'll want to make me bite I'm sure. Only thing I want to play is Sack Boy Adventures really as I already have Ragnarok and getting TLOU1 remake for crimbo.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Up to lvl 138 out of 150 in the PS4 WRC Generations plat attempt. Think I'm going to concentrate on it for a few days and get it over the line, rather than a rally or two here and there and chip away. Definitely feels like more of a slog but that's my own fault for playing straight after the PS5 ping.

Finished off the Goat Sim 3 "story" and can't complain much, I'll keep it installed and mess about in it a while longer but don't see me attempting the plat

message 2075: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm on 650 miles out of 1000 on my Dirt 5 plat run. I'm playing some of the DLC to grind out some of these miles but some kind soul created a track in the track editor to help grind these miles out.

Also played Astrobots Playroom this weekend. What a cracking little game it is. Very Nintendo-esque and is a nice change from what I usually play. Will do a mop up run for the collectibles this week.

Lots of gaming for me at the weekend. Completed another 4 chapters on a Plague Tale Requiem - on chapter 12 now. It's a very very good game - the amount of polish in this game is up there with Naughty Dog. The graphics, game play, characters, the world they've built is all superb. One of the best games of this year and very close to a 10/10 for me. I'm suprised the devs treat this as a AA game with a AA price (£50) as it's a really long campaign and so well crafted. Should be full price. And strangely I gamed with my old gaming mates this weekend for the first time in around five years. Seems I have been missed lol. So played a lot of Warframe in CO-OP which suprised me how good it is. Amazing graphics on PS5, and good solid missions and even really big open world areas. It's very much like a cross between Destiny and Mass Effect (without the story and RPG side). Really enjoying it albeit it's such a confusing complex game.

message 2078: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I remember spending a week with Warframe. People were kind and immediately started inviting me to parties...all the time. I began to feel that you need to dedicate 40 hours per week to really be in the Warframe click. I can tell it's a great, immense game. I just enjoy bouncing around too much to get involved with those time sink games that are meant to be your ONLY game.

Three story missions to go in Shadow of Mordor. Might jump straight into Shadow of War.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping! WRC Generations PS4. Glad I got it out of the way yesterday, don't think I can stomach any more rallies for a while. Enjoyed it for the most part but next time I say I'm trying to plat games like this back-to-back someone tell me to wise up. I'm sure I'll probably listen...maybe...;)

Not sure what's next. Kind of tempted to play through the PS4 version of Horizon 2 since my eyes should be adjusted to the lower framerate through WRC. Think it's maybe been long enough from the PS5 playthrough that it's worth an attempt. Like the idea of going back to replay Shadow of Mordor/War too but have a feeling I'd lose interest after a couple of hours

Ping! - No Mans Sky (PS5)

Got to love these autopop games! I platted it on PS4 about 5+ years ago and it was such a ball ache I remember thinking I deserved 2 plats for.

Always keep game save files!

Also shaved about 80 miles off what I need on Dirt 5 last night too.

I was surprised considering I was starting from level 0, and with my mates being pretty much maxed out (so they told me) when we co-op'd together I didn't feel underpowered. I think for them they probably felt over-powered but we had fun. I won't be sinking any time into it on my own (well, maybe a little but the backlog is getting quite long now) so just a game to play with mates.

message 2082: by [deleted user] (new)

Morning all. Thanks to a strategically placed elastic band, I managed to grind over 250 miles on Dirt 5 last night. Should take less than 30 mins to get over the finish line tonight (pun intended).

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Really no idea what to move on to atm. Current ideas are between The Division 2 DLC which I picked up cheap ages ago and hardly touched or the Monster Hunter World expansion, which I've also hardly made a dent in. Though I've a feeling I'd give up in both of those before they'd even finished installing.

message 2084: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I should finish up the story for Monster Hunter World some day. I remember having a lot of fun vaulting around on to monsters with my insect glaive. Another game that demands a lot of your time.

message 2085: by DeckardCain's Sandals (last edited Nov 23, 2022 07:19AM) (new)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments It's definitely one of those games that if you aren't completely in the mood for it, it can feel like a bit of a slog. But when you are in the mood, the gameplay cycle can be addictive and the hours can disappear.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I was sure I had played Monster Hunter World on my PS5 before so thought I'd have a saved game but no, apparently not. Having to start from scratch kind of dampened my enthusiasm for it, so ended up just messing about in Goat Sim 3 and Diablo 2

Ping! Dirt 5

Deck, it's times like these you need to get a few miles ground out on Grid ;)

Tonight I'll be starting my Astro's Playroom collectibles mop up.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah Grid.... to be honest the thought did enter my mind. Keep it installed at all times, so when I've no idea what to move on to, I can at least mindlessly drive around in circles. Probably would have been more tempted if WRC Generations hadn't been as much of a grind. But I think at this point I've completely given up on the Grid plat attempt. Then again, I'm pretty sure I've said that before and winded up playing it anyway ;)

message 2089: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm the opposite of you atm. There are a ridiculous amount of games I want to play but my problem is knowing what order to do them in. Especially if I upgrade my PS+ sub tomorrow.

I need to take a week off just to solidly game and even then I'll probably have only finished one game.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm hoping PS add some more games to their Black Friday sale, otherwise I'm seriously considering reinstalling Grid lol. The sale is 5 kinds of crap at the minute.

I would pick up Evil West or GunGrave Gore but they look like they'd be more enjoyable as a sub £20 pick up rather than full price. Rather keep my money for The Callisto Protocol and Crisis Core in December, there's Midnight Suns as well which is another strong maybe

message 2091: by [deleted user] (new)

I like the look of Evil West too and has been on my radar for a while. I agree though, I think it'll be sub £20 fairly soon or on PS+ Extra or Gamepass quite soon.

message 2092: by Phil, psn: p4tiny (last edited Nov 25, 2022 06:50AM) (new)

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Hope everyone is enjoying Ragnarok :) I'm just the 4 years behind and currently enjoying God Of War 2018 via ps5 backwards campat, so it's running at 4k 60fps, and I have to say it looks stunning, is rock solid and so far a lot of fun. Have just scratched the surface really - only really just got to The Lake Of The Nine.

I have really got my gaming 'mojo' back with my ps5. Towards the end of having the ps4 I was hardly playing anything, but since getting the ps5 I have rattled off Days Gone, Resi 7, Resi 8, and have now dived straight into GoW and also have yet another run of Until Dawn going on in the background. I already know that once I've finished GoW I'm going to dive headlong into AC Origins (which I have already put about 10 hours into on ps4 a few years ago - and have moved the save file across to ps5) and can't wait!!

It just runs so smooth and quiet, and ps4 games (generally) play on it so much better than they did on ps4. I hardly feel like I'm missing out by having a back-log comprised almost entirely of ps4 games because the games are still fantastic and it's just that now they feel like they run as they 'should' have been running in the first place. Prefer the controller too just because it's bigger and more comfortable. All round just a pleasure to use.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ragnarök and A Plague Rale Requiem are about the only 2 games in existence that I have zero interest in. I'd give The Jumping Taco (or another of those other spam released games that have infested the store) more of a chance of making it into my to-buy list than those 2 ;)

message 2094: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm the same Phil. My PS5 has given me my mojo back and I wasn't playing much on my PS4 towards the end either. Partly because I kept thinking it would die or blow up.

Deck, I've heard Sony are going to ban or shadow ban spam games. I've played a few of these to rattle off a few easy plats but I hope they go as they do devalue plats and the trophy system as a whole.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Hope they do get rid of those. You can easily miss some decent budget releases because of them

I'm interested in Evil West - been watching some youtube reviews - it looks like a cross between Doom and Zombie Army Trilogy but my backlog is actually massive now so it's a either a play on games pass (if it ever goes on) or a deep deep sale (as ACG would say). Same with The Entropy Centre - which does look right up my street. I'm hopefully going to finish A Plague Tale in the next week so next I'm onto Somerville next (on games pass) and then it will be probably Ragnarok. Next year is looking immense tough - High on Life (later this year), Atomic Heart, Starfield, Redfall - all on games pass too. Although I do think some of these will slip until later in the year. This is why I don't need PS+ Extra - too many games lol.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping! Islanders. Pretty addictive wee mix of puzzle and building sim. One of those that could have easily slipped under the radar. Well worth a couple of squid if you like the type

Morning all. I went for the PS+ Extra upgrade yesterday and immediately downloaded Spider-man Miles Morales.

I can't get over how amazing it looks. Even on my old TV and with 60fps prioritised over graphics. Its incredible.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Need for Speed Unbound.... it's actually not terrible. I think I've probably said it before, I don't think there's been a good NFS since the PS2 era but this one seems like a slight step up from last gens efforts, at least. Looks great at times. Very early days yet though, could be screaming at it later in the week.
