DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments You are basically a spaceship recycler. Break the ship up and sort the rubbish. Doesn't sound complicated but working out how to break up the ship to get the maximum from it, is quite addictive. Strangely relaxing too like Lawn Mower Sim

I know which mini horde you mean, at the nero site. Yep I took out half of them by climbing the tower next to the lake and throwing molotovs at them. There's a massive explodable tanker too, and i've shot myself in the foot by blowing that up before I had any distractors to get the freakers next to it!

There's another mini horde in a desert area where the campaign made me follow a helicopter to and I've straight-up ran away from that one lol. I have put all but one of the injections into upping stamina. It was immediately obvious how important being able to run is!

I have essentially updgraded everything on the bike. I thought I would only be able to upgrade the fuel tank but have just bought every upgrade i can so far, so have the 2nd fuel tank upgrade fitted and nitrous and all sorts.

Am playing on easy though as if it's such a long game i fancied just enjoying it a bit more and not constantly dying and worrying about about running out of resources.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Definitely a fan of Hardspace: Shipbreaker. It's one of those games once I pick up, find it impossible to put down. I do think after a couple of marathon sessions I'll will probably have my fill sooner rather than later, but at the minute there's enough variety and challenge between the different types of ships to keep it fresh

Ron | 78 comments I spent a decent amount of time on a game called Blacksad - Beneath the Skin. Sort of a telltale type detective game. Rough around the edges but not bad. Mystery was pretty interesting but twist was obvious. If you're a trophy haw it may cause you to go on a homicidal rampage as the collectibles randomly spawn.

Moved onto Deathloop courtesy of gamepass. I love it. It's a bit confusing and there's maybe too much going on at once with explaining the main premise, how the abilities work, weapons upgrade and sub-stories/tasks.
Regarding the save function - you can die twice without starting a new loop. Each level isn't that huge and if you keep your head you'll be fine. I got into a firefight with about 30 npcs and managed to survive. If you're a COD player then you'll breeze the shooting.

message 1906: by [deleted user] (new)

I had a quick look up of Hardspace: Shipbreaker but it's only on PS5 by the looks.

Was off 'sick' yesterday so did more grinding on Wonderlands and NFS Heat. The police in NFS are ruining the game a bit and are going to make two trophies very difficult. I'm finding building up reputation and money to be a real slog as well and doesn't have the sense of natural progression of Payback.

That being said, I've not been very wise with the money I have earned having read up a bit on the best cars to buy when etc so partly my fault I suppose.

After grinding these for so long I'm definitely looking forward to something new so still planning on treating myself to MW2 next month. Hope it's as good as the 2019 game (campaign at least).

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Hardspace: Shipbreaker is scary... not that there's any horror elements but no, scary in a "where the hell did Saturday" kind of way. Think I'll need to take a break from it, I'm starting to see floating debris when I sleep ;)

Morning all. I started Deathloop over the weekend thinking I wouldn't start a new game for a few weeks. I don't know what to make of it. On one hand I think it's superb and I'm having a lot of fun and finding it hard to put down. I've put in 6-7 hours so far, and assassinated 3-4 off my kill list. I think the world they've realised is amazing. Love the artwork, the exploration aspect even though they're relatively small maps, the weapons and powers are satisfying. Even returning to maps is well done. There have been some really good battles in some really good 'arenas' such as the space theme park. And then on the other hand the game is so confusing - the story is mostly told in countless collectables, the loop thing has taken me six hours to understand it. I can finish a mission with loads of good stuff and then bang lost the lot because it's the end of the day. Then I looked at a guide and there is the ability to infuse powers/weapons but as any mission can be done in any order as long as the time of day is right the ability to infuse has to be found in a particular mission. I've got it now but wish I would have realised this earlier - it was explained in a collectable but clearly with the other hundred or more story pick-ups I collected it didn't pop as super important. And then the revive mechanic - so you immediately respawn after dying- is so flaky. I can litterly respawn without any real chance to escape the current enemies that are right on top of me leading to a quick death. And then I've died literally without warning - stepped off something into a green gas that I never noticed and bang I'm dead. And there are some difficulty spikes. However, the gameplay options can be tweaked to give you more revivals so that has helped - slight cheat I suppose but but makes the game more fun for me. This game was a 10/10 across the board pretty much when it was reviewed last year. For me then yea gameplay, world, fun factor, artwork, asthetic is 10/10. Then it's let down by the way the story is told, and the confusing timeloop mechanic which eventually makes sense but it took some time, I mean I'm six hours in and it's literally still coming up with loads of tutorial pop-ups to help me understand the menus and in-game mechanics - very frequently. It's not intuitive in that sense. So I am absolutely adoring this game but it's by no means a perfect 10/10. 8.5 so for me, and that's only down to everything that is not game play.

More grinding this weekend on Wonderlands and NFS Heat. Both really are starting to feel like a grind now, I'm not sure why I'm doing it to myself.

I'm also getting really frustrated with the police in NFS. Once they've decided you're going down there's not really any escaping. It's making one of the trophies a real pain. Thankfully I managed the other awkward one so I have some hope.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Was going to Hardspace: Shipbreaker a break but had a look at the remaining trophies and, since it looked like it wouldn't be much of a chore, stuck with it and... ping! Enjoyed the game and the relatively straightforward plat was a nice surprise and didn't outstay it's welcome. Overall a nice change of pace

After that had a bit of another "nothing quite scratching the itch" series of game attempts. Stuck on quite a few and no, couldn't be arsed with them. Did manage to finish off The Witch Queen expansion in Destiny 2. Storywise at least, I personally think most of the expansions have been a step up from the base game, not quite convinced by Europa but the rest has been decent. Will say though that the end of the witch queen was a bit of a chore, the mission went on forever and the final fight was an effort.

As far as I know Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is out later this week so need to find something to keep me going until then. Did like Pathfinder: Kingmaker but it's the type of game I really have to be in the mood for so it might be a case of I pick it up and get around to it eventually

Error | 408 comments Only spent a little bit of time on Elex recently. I'm in a quest-heavy area and want to wipe out as many as possible before heading back to the world at large. This area was quite difficult to get to, and isn't accessible by fast travel (unlike most other locations). Only problem is that most of these quests involve talking at length to multiple characters. It was feeling a bit tedious knowing I had hours more of it ahead of me.

So - I gave it a rest and played As Dusk Falls. Completed it in one long session. If you like narrative adventure games, this seems to be a good one. I wasn't sure about the visual style at first (still portraits) but over time your mind really starts to fills things in---to the point it was basically a movie to me after a few hours. Neat effect. There are tons of branching paths, but replaying this kind of game doesn't interest me. My experience was very good though, 8/10.

Lastly, started Fable: Anniversary over again. Been craving Fable of some kind for awhile. The game is as whimsical as ever. If anyone wants to see what auto-HDR on the Xbox Series X can do, run around through foliage and shadows at dusk. The fact that this is a 2014 remaster of a 2004 game does not even seem possible. Really impressive what the tech can do for that game.

Hi all. I've bought a couple of games in the new PS store sales. A couple of small games with easy looking plats (although not full on grubby I don't think).

Also picked up the Borderlands 2 Tiny Tina standalone DLC. I still kick myself for not adding it to my library when it was on PS+ but I didn't realise it was standalone with a separate plat. Only cost £4 so not too big a kick in the balls.

WRC10 just about hit my bite point so have picked that up too.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Gonna have to have a look at the latest sales myself, though more to try and figure out what I'm in the mood for than anything

message 1914: by [deleted user] (new)

Did you ever play that Tiny Tina standalone DLC Deck? Do you know if existing BL2 characters can be imported in?

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Assault on Dragon Keep? Yeah played a bit of it, haven't gotten around to finishing it though, lost interest mid way through but keep meaning to go back to it. The weapons early on take a bit of getting used to, the recoil seemed worse than any Borderlands.

Can't say for sure about the BL2 imports but I don't remember seeing any option. I was playing it on PS5 though and don't think I've played BL2 on it, so wouldn't have had a save to import. So there might be, but there was no reason for me to look

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Have completed 'act 1' of Days Gone (so have just got to the bit where I have travelled south with Boozer and am about to enter Lost Lake camp). Thoroughly enjoying it, it's nothing remarkable so far, but very solid on ps5 and looks superb. Strangely relaxing to play, just cruise about, stealth some enemies, collect provisions. I know I haven't faced a proper horde yet, but I have seen plenty of vids on those and I know I haven't got the weapons I really need to take one down yet, and when I am forced into it, I will be better equipped, so all good :) solid game.

Have also just taken delivery of Ghost of Tsushima - actually bought the standard ps4 version off ebay (£15) but the free upgrade for that for ps5 is in a similar vein to Days Gone - 4K, locked 60fps, HDR, and it has apparently also had the auto lock targeting patched-in. So I don't really feel any need to upgrade to the full ps5 directors cut version, I'm not bothered about the expansion dlc. I reckon the ps4 version with the free ps5 patch will be great :)

message 1917: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah no worries. I just remember seeing char specific trophies similar to those of the base game. They all require getting the relevant characters up to a certain level in order to unlock certain abilities.

I was thinking if characters could be imported, they'd all be ready straight away for the char specific trophies.

Ping! - Rally Racer

A lot grubber than I was expecting tbh.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'd started to create a character in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous but there's even more options than Pathfinder: Kingmaker so it'll likely take a few hours and many attempts before I'm ready to start. Nice to see proper old school character creation is still alive and well and not the solely aesthetic obsessed creators you mostly find these days.

Played a wee bit of Deadcraft while I was waiting for it and it's a bit of a weird one. You are half zombie, half human, part zombie hunter, part farmer. Nothing to write home about gameplay wise, bit of hack and slash mixed with some crafting, farming and survival aspects but not the worst game I've played

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments The PS5 store has been a bit of a mess these past few months. When sorted by new-old, there's pre-orders up the top as well as at the end (as well as some recent and not so recent releases) , some new games aren't appearing despite being available, and generally it's been a bit all over the place. You wouldn't think it wouldn't be a hard thing to sort but no it's been like that for at least a couple of months.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Getting near the end of The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero. Decent enough old type JRPG. I played the 4 Trails of Cold Steel games and liked them well enough so thought I'd give it a go and yeah, it follows the exact same formula as those. Don't know about platting it at the minute, it's one of those that requires multiple relatively thorough playthroughs and the first is looking like being well over 50 hours. Then again it could be one of those I stick with because nothing else is scratching the itch

Ron | 78 comments After having been addicted I am now getting bored and frustrated with Death Loop. Think I will aim to mop up all achievements ASAP.

Good news
I'm gearing HL Alyx is coming to PSVR2. Very tempting.

Bad news
Dead Space Remake is £70 RRP. This is too high for me. Especially when they have the original creator launching his spiritual successor 2 months before - which is both cheaper and looks much better graphically.

message 1927: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I watched the Dead Space trailer (on my phone, admittedly) and it looks almost too true to the original. When the original is boosted to 4k with auto HDR I wouldn't dream of paying 70 bucks. Another example of asking a premium for a very familiar experience. It's not going to play differently; just prettier. The Last of Us is at least a comparatively long game. Dead Space is like 10hrs - less if you've played it a few times. I know there are some that are super excited though and I hope they enjoy it.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments It took me a lot longer than 10hrs to complete Dead Space more like many many months ;) Even though you pretty much knew exactly where they were gonna creep out of, for me at least, it was a lot more tense than most horror games I've played. After every save point I needed to take a break from it, so it took forever lol.

Game prices though are really all over the place at the minute

That's exactly how it was for me back in 2009 or whenever it was. Just too creepy to play for long or very often. Checked it again after doing Dead Space 2 a year or so ago...think I've just become desensitized to that sort of atmosphere and jump scare stuff. The encounters are very predictable. I'm sure the Callisto Protocol will take things to the next level of creepiness.

I'm still plodding along with NFS Heat. I've got one horrible trophy left to accumulate and bank 1 million points in one night.

I accumulated the required points but then got torn a new one by the overly aggressive police AI. It was ridiculous and soul destroying in equal measure and took a lot of will power not to smash my controller to smithereens.

I've ground out enough money to buy a faster car now so hopefully better luck next time.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Played a wee bit of Dakar Desert Rally and it's OK'ish. Can't see me sticking a lot of hours into it unless they add some AI difficulty options. Maybe it's just the car I started off with but it's more of a struggle than I'd like. Trophy list doesn't look too terrible if they sort that. I'll have a race or two here and there and see how it goes

Think it'll mostly be a bit of a mix of Destiny 2, Diablo 2 and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous for me for a while

Error | 408 comments I finished up my evil playthrough of Fable: Anniversary. Had a wonderful time, and managed to pick up most of the achievements I had missed before. There is a lot of magic in that series. I'm praying that Playground actually gets the new one out and does a good job with it.

After that, I started playing Chivalry II. I did not know what I was getting into. Massive medieval combat scenarios with really intense hand-to-hand combat. It is very cool to have a 64v64 online game where one faction pushes siege towers into the castle walls and actually tries to breach. There are not a ton of scenarios as of yet, but they are all pretty interesting. They also have a 40v40 and a baby mode with a handful of real players and lots of bots. That's where I'm having the most fun : ) I will try a 64v64 every once in a while to experience the chaos and scale. Great alternative to online shooters.

Hi all. Not much gaming for me recently as I’ve been on my annual holiday in the sun. Resumed playing Deathloop today. Honestly I nearly binned it off. The game offered up missions I’ve already done and for powers I’ve already infused. This loop thing is so confusing in how to progress the story. I basically progressed nothing and wasted over an hour. So I think I understand what I need to do now - there seem to be small story elements that I need to progress to work out how to complete all the kills in one day. Although I’m not sure it makes sense that progressing the story isn’t wiped from my memory after each day. How do I remember the story to know what to do. The game is so much fun but so confusing. It’s a love-hate game for me.

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Still on Days Gone - creeping towards the end of the Lost Lake section (I think!).

I have taken down 3 hordes so far (by choice - I'm nowhere near the game mandating that I fight a horde yet). The Horse Lake horde, The Death Train horde and...the Old Sawmill horde!! I haven't unlocked napalm molotovs, don't have particularly good guns, have maxed out stamina but only halfway through health upgrades and haven't boosted focus at all yet...but I was on the mission to kill Two Dogs, and thought 'why not?' :)

Found a little ledge where they couldn't get to me and just used up all my molotovs (including crafting 12 more during the fight), grenades, pipe bombs, distractors and a few machine gun rounds and done :) games biggest baddest horde downed.

I am playing on easy mind lol

Nearly binned off deathloop yet again. Having to repeat the same mission about 5 times just to progress the story has been an absolute pain. There is an insta-fail mission I’ve failed three times. And then there is an insta death mission where I think everyone dies. It doesn’t break the loop mind just there to pee me off. Triggered it twice now. This game does everything it can to frustrate. It’s too hard as well with all of this so I’ve basically changed it to super easy mode which isn’t that easy what with the insta fail stuff. I’ve progressed the story but after played another 4 hours today I think only two hours progressed the story, and the other two wasted time. I’m going to have to look at some guides or bin it off. I can’t keep being this frustrated. There is defo a good game in there behind all the utter miserable shite.

I got the awkward trophy I needed on NFS Heat. I thought it'd be a straight forward clear up collectibles and 3 starring activities after that and for the most part it is.

Unfortunately though some of the speed cameras are in awkward places so require adding 'ultimate' or 'ultimate +' parts to one of the cars I already. The parts are earned in special races at night so will be having a lot more potentially frustrating battles with the cops in order to tick off 4 or 5 out of the approx 80 speed cameras.

I hate hunting trophies sometimes. Too close to give up now though.

Signed up for Playstation stars. Looks pretty mean on points value. I'm currently making around £120 on microsoft points a year which pays for my Games Pass Ultimate without the need for any upfront games purchases (although you can earn approx 2000 points for any game purchases in the points scheme). So far I've redeemed 15 months of ultimate for £0 paid upfront. Playstation stars looks not even remotely a patch on this.

You have to complete all the daily tasks on the Microsoft rewards website every day including quizzes, looking at links and daily searches in Microsoft edge (you do this on tablet or PC via the edge browser) and the Bing app on a smart phone. The search based points can be done with a single letter and clicking search each time - building a search term of increasingly random characters. It still counts as a search.

https://rewards.microsoft.com/

Complete the daily, weekly and monthly tasks on the console (it’s on the achievements screen). You can also access these same tasks from the games pass app on android or iOS. And also on a daily basis do the console reward app tasks - so you need to download the console rewards app. The console based stuff comes kinda naturally as you game but you do have to keep an eye on it. The console based tasks, some of them, can be done through the cloud streaming app on phone or tablet saving needing to turn on your console.

It does take a little dedication but once used to it I spend 5-10mins a day collecting points. So far I’ve earned in the space of 18 months ish nearly 200,000 points. One month of games pass ultimate is 12,000 points.

Honestly, it sounds a chore, and initially it is, but you get used to it and you become fast at doing it. Like I say takes me no more than 5-10mins a day now.

I think I probably get a good 3000-4000 points through the console reward app a month. There is one reward a month that is 2000 points alone. And the weekly reward on the console app has streaks so you may only earn 100 points a week but the streaks build up over time to be 1000 to 2000 to 2500 every few weeks that’s if you keep the streak up. The most difficult thing is earning three achievements a week for the weekly task 😀. And then check in the reward app for game purchases with points rewards. They’re usually new release games.
