DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Gave WRC Generations a quick go. Pretty much identical to WRC 10, the last few games have felt more like a FIFA style yearly update rather than a proper upgrade. Still, I do like rally games and think it'll scratch an itch for a while once I get through Persona 5. In fact, I might take a break from P5 and play WRC for a few days while I'm in the mood

Ron | 78 comments Finding PT Requiem a bit of a chore. Seems to be a lot more sections where you are thrown into very difficult situations and die many times before figuring it out. I don't remember the first game being so frustrating. The graphics are fantastic and the most recent level was a nice change of pace so I'll stick with it for now.
Looking forward to Return to Monkey Island landing on Game Pass

Ron | 78 comments Glad to have you back Glass. I feel your pain. I'm on day 2 of a new job and sat here by myself, don't know anyone and all the people I need to interact with to get started are on holiday or at home! Filled with anxiety. Don't let it get on top of you.

Only the final boss fight of the first game was a chore for me. And then one fight mid game where enemy come at you from all angles in a circular room with many doors. That's how remember it :-). I'm playing Requiem next after completing MW2 campaign this weekend but now I'm thinking I could be throwing my controller at the TV playing it. Thing is hopefully any really frustrating bits I'll cheat by watching the solution on youtube.

It's still a good game but it focuses a lot more on combat as an option to the point where I can't see how else you'd manage to get by.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Was starting to think WRC Generations was a contender for ping 200 but it looks like they've added a trophy to massively inflate game time. Reach player level 150, sound OK but......looks like by the end of the career I'll only be around lvl 60. Nowhere near Grid levels of grind but looks enough to make it more than I'd like. I'll see what I've left after I've knocked off the other trophies but looks like it'll cross the threshold from enjoyment to chore. Still, at the minute it's a nice break from P5R

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Saw a few screenshots of Return to Monkey Island. Will definitely pick it up but not convinced by the art style

message 2008: by [deleted user] (new)

I think WRC Generations is Kyloton's last game in the WRC series. Codemasters are taking over so things should change a bit going forward.

I've got WRC 10 in my backlog and even though I'm a little tired of racers, it may be my next game after Hot Wheels.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm enjoying WRC Generations but the last trophy looks like taking a while. I've hit lvl 108 out of 150 but it's needing more and more exp to level up, so don't have high hopes for a ping in the near future. Maybe should have stuck with Persona 5 Royal, at this rate I'm going to need a break from the break.

message 2010: by [deleted user] (new)

Ping! Hot Wheels Unleashed

A nice game and a great PS+ offering. Half the time trials needed to be achieved with shortcuts. Thankfully plenty of YT vids out there although some were tricky to pull off. There was a bit of grinding for money/gears at the end which took a bit of shine off but all trophy lists seem to come with a mundane grind these days.

Morning all. Finished the MW2 campaign. For me it didn't really float my boat on the whole. It lacked something and it tried to shoe horn in every possibly game play mechanic in different missions (more so than usual) that really meant it lost a lot of focus at times. And the final mission was going great, really enjoying it - good FPS action - and then the final part of the last mission isn't FPS action but the boring shite I hate (without going into spoilers). Not bad but defo not up there in the best COD campaigns for me - 7/10 on the r-score-o-meter. Had some really good moments though just not enough.

And then I started A Plague Tale Requiem. Completed three missions. Wow. Some of the environments on Series X look amazing and sooo atmospheric and detailed. The game play is more of the same with a few mechanic additions but even after three missions I experienced some tricky moments - one being completely out of resources having to pass two guards, each surrounded by rats, in quick succession - with no resources ! Basically had to stun them both, timed in turn as they both weren't visible at the same time, to freeze their torches in place and run for it. Must have taken me 10 attempts. Still, so far I'm loving it. And my new TV has faux 60 fps mode for 30 fps games - which helps a lot.

Have god of war ragnorok arriving this week, which I'll put away until after I complete A Plague Tale, but I watched ACG's review of it last night and it's a 35-40 hour campaign. That's a massive increase on the last game which for me was about the perfect length (think it was 15-20 hours). And even ACG said Ragnorok drags in the middle.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm guessing the WRC/Codemasters thing is more to weaken the competition than anything. Would have thought the Dirt Rally brand was just as strong/stronger in gaming. Guess it gives them the opportunity to do a yearly release like F1 but personally would have liked to have seen a DR 3.0.

Hopefully should be polishing off Generations over the next few days, making progress a bit quicker than I'd feared.

message 2013: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd not really thought of that but you're right. Unless they carry on with the Dirt Rally franchise as the tough one and their WRC efforts replace the Dirt games?

I was going to start WRC 10 last night but was too tired. Instead I knocked out a grubby plat in the shape of Windmill Engine and felt dirty afterwards.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments No interest in Ragnarok at all. Still haven't managed to force myself all the way through the previous one.

I reckon a couple more hours of WRC and it'll be done. Then on to Monkey Island.

And got an invite from Sony for the PSVR2 pre-order next week. On the fence at the minute. I'm very tempted but it's bit more than I'd like to be paying out at the minute

message 2016: by [deleted user] (new)

My missus says I can buy a PS5 if I want but I'm struggling a little to justify the outlay right. The only place I can see ones available is directly from Sony and in a bundle.

The only bundle that appeals out of the choices is with GoW Ragnarok, even though I'm not in a rush to play it.

Amazon do the console by invitation. £480 for disc version. I remember when I signed up to the Amazon invitiation I received it after a week or so - but by that point had bought my PS5 from currys. The curry's bundles are in stock but very expensive right now as they have several items bundled in.

message 2018: by [deleted user] (new)

Cheers R. Amazon was my first thought. I'd seen the standalone console for £480 by invitation but assumed it would take a long time.

Yea no idea what the wait time is at the moment. If you're in no rush maybe worth giving it a week or two if you prefer the standalone console purchase although you may run the risk of Sony running out of stock.

Error | 408 comments Hey all - after successfully avoiding it for two years I caught COVID at a mandatory work training...wiped out basically the whole office. Less than a week after getting the new booster lol. One day of sniffles and cough for me plus ongoing fatigue. Annoyed at having to use of a week of leave for getting infected at work but oh well. Snow has been falling for the past three days so not a bad time to be gaming on the couch. Speaking of which:

Evil Within 2 - just a couple chapters left. This game is a ton of fun. I don't understand why it's feeling like a slog, I only have 14hrs into it.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising - I started this on a whim expecting nothing. It's actually a really good time. It truly is trying to be Breath of the Wild with a Greek mythology backdrop. The world is beautiful to explore. They add traditional Ubisoft bloat with activities everywhere. The interesting thing is it feels very organic to explore and engage in activities, and they are actually a lot of fun. The dialogue is PG-13 edgy and I skip almost everything. Worth a try if you are interested in big, colorful action-adventure game.

...and more Chivalry II

Sucks that you had to use a weeks leave! If you're ill you're ill, doesn't matter where you caught the 'bug'?

Hope the fatigue wears off soon. I dunno if I have had COVID or not - if I have then the jabs did their work and stopped me getting ill from it. My missus had it but I never felt anything.

I got mine form ShopTo about a week after R got his from Curry's - I know we both got in there just before the price increase took effect.

I paid £504 for the disc console + an extra controller - so if they're doing the same deal now then it'd obviously be £534. There were loads of places with stock when I bought. ShopTo, Currys, Game, Argos, BT store, Smyths, John Lewis, Amazon-by-invite...

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping no 200! WRC Generations (PS5). Then daftly I stuck on the PS4 version. I could probably get used to the downgraded visuals and framerate but not sure I've the patience for the longer loading times. Still, knocked off the only online trophies for it, so could come back to it at some point to plat.

Made a good dent in Return to Monkey Island and no complaints from me. Also gave No More Heroes 3 a quick go and it seems like it could be mindless fun, so might give that more of a go before returning to P5R

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Just finished Resi 7 Biohazard (not exactly with the times lol). Played probably about a third well over a year ago on the base ps4, and the rest just now on ps5 having taken advantage of the free ps5 upgrade.

Performance wise it was faultless although I did find the art design a bit strange mainly in outdoor sections where a weird almost blurry filter seems to have been applied? Wasn't a problem though.

Great game though. Moderately scary for the most part I guess but not too bad. Certainly not Alien Isolation nor Dead Space(1) levels of scares. But really fun still. Played on normal difficulty, got ending 2. Took just under 11.5 hours, and that's it for me, 31% of trophies, not remotely interested in trying to get more! No way I could do it in under 4 hours or only access the storage box 3 times and all that!!

Think I'm going to move straight onto Resi Village :)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah, I started Resi 7 again a while back and don't remember the start looking quite as awful on PS4. Then again, I used VR so that might have something to do with it.

Wasn't in the mood for much yesterday so just knocked off a couple of PS4 WRC Generations trophies. Tempted by Tactics Ogre Reborn now

message 2027: by [deleted user] (new)

I've joined the invitation list on Amazon for a standalone PS5 so will see what happens with that. If I'm not invited, I'll take it as a sign to leave it for now.

Not played anything for several nights as my lad has been under the weather and going to bed late. By the time I've sat down I've been too tired to start anything.

message 2028: by [deleted user] (new)

Hopefully £60 isn't something she'll see as extravagant. Plus you could sell the game on ebay. Ah - although it could be a PS Store code for Ragnorok which is probably still ok to sell on ebay.

message 2032: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah I think it's a code. It is a game I'll eventually want anyway so whilst I'd not ideally want to pay full price for it, I'll still play it if I keep it.

It's game like this and Horizon etc I want the PS5 for. Its becoming more inescapable that I'll be playing poor versions of everything now. Plus I do wonder how long my PS4 will keep going. Its not been too bad of late but when playing newer, more demanding games, it's so loud.

message 2033: by R(ob) (new)

R(ob) (r_uk) | 886 comments Mod
You won't want to go back to last gen main reason being load times. Whenever I switch on my PS4 Pro or One X (which is rare) everything is so slow, I mean really slow in comparison. Plus PS5/Series X they are backwards compatible so no reason to go back really. I use my One X for watching videos (I've purchased on the MS Store) on the non-gaming TV. Honestly, boot-up, menu navigation, apps starting on my One X/PS4 - don't know how I put up with it ;-).

message 2034: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah if I go for it, my PS4 will be getting boxed up and probably never used again. It's done me well over the last 8 or 9 years but is probably due a retirement.

It's just the base model too so with it's age and the noise/heat it throws out, I'd be worried about playing these newer wave of Sony first party games. Wonderlands made it sound like it was going to take off at times.

I'm dying to see the SSD in action and feel the haptic feedback etc. Just have something new, nice and shiny for a change. I guess I won't see much graphical leap on my 1080p TV but faster load times and better framerates will be worth it.

message 2035: by R(ob) (new)

R(ob) (r_uk) | 886 comments Mod
You'll probably still notice better graphics as they'll be downscaled from 4k making it at least sharper plus better graphical enhancements - but yea next purchase has surely got to be a 4k TV. Maybe a christmas pressie from the missus ;-). Haptic feedback is good - Astro's Playroom is amazing for haptic feedback and a really good game (free). I wouldn't say haptic feedback is widely used on the games I've played but the haptics generally in the dual sense are way more precise than last gen, making everything feel subtle rather than a default strong rumble. I like the dual sense - probably the best controller now except for battery life which is touching on poor. I probably get 6-7 hours, compared to 40+ on my XBox controller.

message 2036: by [deleted user] (new)

A new TV is defo on the cards but won't hold my breath for my mrs buying one haha.

Since my lad was born a few years ago I'm pretty much the sole earner and why this decision is weighing heavy. Not helped by everything going up in price either.

My lad has a habit of touching the TV if he sees something he likes on there so it's probably best I leave a new TV for now anyway. I don't think he'd damage a it but I can cope with wiping fingers marks of my current TV. If I bought a brand spanking new TV, I'd have a panic attack everytime he went near it. He loved watching me play Hot Wheels the other week, especially in the car select menu of all things.

Good to know I'll see a graphical improvement anyway though.

message 2037: by Phil, psn: p4tiny (new)

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments I know this is more than 2 hours later, but I hope you went for it. If the missus gave the greenlight for £480 then what's £60 between friends?

The real kicker is the additional ssd you'll inevitably have to buy too (maybe not immediately, but before long). I managed to bag a 1tb with heatsink for £99 about a month or so before I even bought the ps5, but they seem to have universally gone back up to about £130 now - but it's an almost essential upgrade tbh.

R(ob) (r_uk) | 886 comments Mod
Yea I bagged the same SSD deal. Thanks to your post a while back. Yea I’m nearly full on my 1TB SSD but have only one game on the internal storage. I think it’s doable, not too irritating, to move games around from an external HDD. I did if for a few months on my Series X with an external SSD on usb and was pretty quick.

message 2039: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought I'd sleep on it last night but got up first thing and bought my PS5 this morning.

I've just packed my PS4 away and set my PS5 up. I've just left it charging the Dual Sense and downloading a couple of games (Dirt 5 and GoW R) ready for a proper go tonight.

I'm going to see how I get on with the standard SSD. I remember Deck saying he's managed OK and like him, I tend to play the sheet out of one or two games at a time before moving on.

I think everyone who's bought a PS5 on here has said the same thing but it's big. It fits nicely in the gap vacated by the PS4 but it fills it a lot more. Because of the stand, it's quite tall even when on its side.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah, personally I have zero issue with the SSD. The likes of CoD takes up a ridiculous size and as well as some other big MP focused games but weirdly the install size for PS5 versions is often smaller than the PS4 equivalent. I regularly have 40+ games installed with a good mix of large and small ones.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Hadn't meant to attempt the PS4 plat for WRC Generations just yet but I've only the one trophy left, so I'll probably stick with it now. Still a load of hours to sink into it before the ping but if I stop now, I've no idea when I'll return.

message 2042: by [deleted user] (new)

Morning all. I thought I'd play the PS5 version of Dirt 5 as my first game on my new toy. With it being relatively fresh in my memory, I thought it would be a good game to see the difference between the PS4/5 versions.

It was good looking on PS4 but it's a noticable step up on PS5. A much more stable frame rate and it looks a lot sharper as well. Pleased with it so far.

The xmb layout will take some getting used to. The PS4's was perfect but I don't find the PS5 one very intuitive. Even closing a game down means opening a mini menu up. Only a niggle and I'm sure I'll get used to it.

One more slight niggle is the trophy list keeps putting itself back to the default order whereas I always have it in date earned order. When I turn the PS5 off, it doesn't remember I've changed it.

Glad to hear you got your PS5 and liking it. Yea the UI is nice and slick but I think I preferred the PS4 UI but the extra UI speed is a must. Plus on a 4K TV the PS5 UI looks nice as it's HDR too. I miss the news feed on the PS4 and it was defo more intuitive - I still can't get used to the bottom menu and the reversal of the home button long press.

Gaming wise I've been playing more Hot Wheels Unleashed (really enjoying it and it looks nice), I bought Battlefield V on PS5 (PS4 version in a sale for less than £9) and so been playing some MP on that. And more MW2 MP which I seem to be getting a little better at (but only marginally better). I spent a good 4-5 hours on A Plague Tale Requiem, now on Chapter 8, and really enjoying it. Not too many sticky moments so far. Boy does this look graphically nice - I think it may be one of the best graphical games I've ever seen.

message 2044: by [deleted user] (new)

A bit of a daft question but if you buy the PS4 version of a game and play it on the PS5, does it look and play exactly as it would on a PS4 or is it enhanced in anyway?

A few weeks ago I bought the PS4 version of WRC 10. I'm wishing I'd bought the other version now.

I'm also liking the fact I won't have to buy any games for a while. It looks like I inadvertently bought Terminator Resistance on cross buy at some point. A Plague Tale Innocence is a PS+ I snagged ages ago, along with Wreckfest. Plus in the PS+ collection, I noticed Battlefield 1 is listed too. I don't usually play BF games but I might have to try it.

I would say ps4 games on the ps5 generally look and play as they would on the ps4-pro. Maybe a bit better even. Framerate should certainly be a locked 60fps, whereas on the pro it might have been a locked 30fps?

They certainly look and play better on ps5 than compared to base-ps4.

Yea like Phil said PS4 games on PS5 will be the PS4 Pro version on the whole. And where PS4 games have unlocked frame rates and resolution scaling on PS4 they will be performing better on PS5 - resolutions and frame-rate achieving the highest limit. Some games for PS4 have free PS5 upgrades - there is probably a list somehwere - but for example TLOU2 has a PS5 patch so it runs at 60FPS (compared to 30fps on PS4). This is just a game update so you'll get it without doing anything other than a game update. I think some other exclusives have the same kind of PS5 patches. I'd check on WRC 10 - some games have the PS5 and PS4 version and I think you might be able to download the other - there is usually a selector in the PS store for a game for the PS5 or PS4 version. Depends on how they do it - free or paid upgrade.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments For some reason they decided not to bundle the PS4 & 5 versions together for WRC 10, so I've not seen what the PS4 version looks like. But I will say the PS5 version of WRC 10 was decent but I reckon the PS4 version will be similar to 9 and Generations i.e. not great. Especially if you play it after Dirt 5, it'll likely hurt the eyes. WRC9 probably had the most noticeable difference between the 2 versions of all the games I've played

message 2049: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks both. I'm pretty sure with WRC 10 I've only bought the PS4 version and for about £3 more I could have bought both (will double check though).

Good to know though that if it's just the PS4 version, it'll play better than if I'd done so on my base PS4.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I see the Witcher 3's next gen upgrade is finally appearing in December. There's another 100+ hours more of my life accounted for.
