Morning all. Finally finished Deathloop. A bit of a relief really lol. It was good but also annoying and frustrating at the same time. Even on the final loop I messed-up (selected the wrong option on the first visionary kill mission in the final loop) and it basically meant I had to repeat the entire loop again from the next day (although the game doesn't tell you this so you could waste hours if you weren't aware). So in the end an amazing world, asthetic, atmosphere, gameplay, maps but probably one of the most confusing games I've ever played, somewhat difficult (but can be reduced in the menus though) and definitely frustrating at times. 8/10 but if they'd somehow made it less confusing/annoying/frustrating it had the potential to be 10/10 for sure.

Next I was going to play Scorn but after reading reviews I think I may leave that for a drought - supposed to have very sparse checkpoints and you can lose a good hour of gameplay if you die and apparently the combat is truly awful (albeit there isn't much of it). So I think MW2 campaign next (can play it later this week, a week before the MP is playable if you pre-order digitally) and then A Plague Tale Requiem.

I never understood what Deathloop was when it came and sounds as confusing as I thought it might be. Probably one I'll pass on.

Plodded on a bit more with NFS Heat over the weekend. Just one speed camera left now but its a tricky one as its just after a bend. I'm resigned to the fact I won't do it in my Keonigsegg so have started to grind for upgrades on my Porsche 911 which guides say will be necessary. Once that's done, I just have all the drift zones to do but I'm hoping they are as straight forward as they were in Payback.

Perhaps my difficulties with Deathloop might be down a little to me as well, I'm not the most patient of people :-).

message 1954: by [deleted user] (new)

I have a lot less patience than I used to so I think I'd probably find it as confusing as you, if not more.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Was kind of thinking of attempting the Diablo 2 plat but the advice online ranges between "don't do it" and "seriously, don't do it".

Managed to finish a hardcore playthough without messing up but don't really fancy my chances of getting through nightmare and hell difficulties to get to lvl 99. Still, it's one of my all-time favs and one I'll keep returning to, so who knows. Not likely to be ping no 200 though, think I'll be stuck on 198 for quite a while by the looks of it

message 1956: by Ron (last edited Oct 18, 2022 02:17AM) (new)

Ron | 78 comments I didn't find Deathloop that bad. If you go into the missions tab you can highlight an objective and it guides you pretty well.

Having said that I have 92% of achievements and am going for 100%. Getting really pissed off with one where you have to kill 17 Weiji's in 90 seconds. I thought killing all visionaries without being detected or killing anyone else would be the frustrating one.

Downloaded Plague Tale 2

I found on the whole it does guide you pretty well but then there were times (too often not to be one-offs) where I thought have I completed the objective and then rather than the exit being waymarked there will be no waymarker at all - and then leave the mission and fail something. Or in other cases you'll think you've completed the objective but the waymarker stays on the objective. You'll look at the mission tab and the objective will still be in the menu but in the game there is nothing to do (basically means I messed up choosing the wrong option but can no longer change it, except repeat another loop). And then there were other times I completed all of the objectives in the mission tab but no waymarkers at all (not even to the exit) giving me this unsure feeling have I really done everything I need to do. It was a bit flaky sometimes on waymarkers and being clear. Then that mission where if you spotted at the party it was an insta-fail. I really hate insta-fail missions :-).

Error | 408 comments Lots and lots of Chivalry II. The game is so much fun! Everyone should give it a try - highly recommended 9.5/10

Error. I gave it a go. It is fun - although I've only played 45 mins. I nearly gave up in the tutorial as some of the weapon moves I couldn't seem to master but once in a match it was fun albeit I was swinging my axe without much skill. I will give it a bit more time.

Also started A Plague Tale Requiem. More of the same from the first game so far - I've only completed the first chapter. Graphically really nice and really highly polished for a AA game. Really frustating it's only 30fps 1440p on next gen - it does kinda take the shine off it a little. More the 30fps. Once you get used to most games being 60fps going back to 30fps is very jarring.

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments I'm coming to the end of Days Gone now. Have ridden back north and am currently at the point where I'm currently locked out of the Crater Lake region, and all the hordes are now marked on the map, so I'm working my way through those. I know they're not essential to completing the game but they're fun. I probabaly have about 9 or 10 actual story missions to go.

Long game!! It's weird, I'm well done with it really and looking forward to it finishing so I can move onto something else, but I'm also still having fun with it and want to wipe out all the hordes.

It's a good game, certainly now it's fully patched and runs fantastically on ps5, really smooth and nary a glitch to be seen anywhere, all the mechanics work really well and the weapons feel great. The bike is fantastic, especially now fully upgraded, good acting too and even Deacon's character has grown on me. But I can see why it had mixed or even bad reviews because it's incredibly repetitive and moves at a glacial pace, especially until at least halfway through the Lost Lake region. Every marauder camp/ambush camp/ripper camp all blend into eachother, rinse and repeat, far too many tiny 'missions' and some awful fetch quests - collect polystyrene cups? ffs, I get it but it's such busywork.

Overall the absolute definition of a rough diamond - brilliant game absolutely way too padded out, but still very good!

Ping! - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

I had approx 100 more hours more grinding to do but someone I'm in a trophy discord with joined my game and glitched me 400 million pieces of gold. It allowed me to fully upgrade the last 3 things I needed to upgrade for the last trophy.

Really good game and nice addition to the Borderlands universe. But that last trophy was ridiculous. Made the Grid grind trophy myself and Deck sometimes mention look like one of those grubby 5 min plats. I'd have had to do approx 200-250 arena runs each taking approx 40 mins.

Can concentrate on knocking out NFS Heat now.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Congrats on the Wonderlands plat. It was almost the opposite of BL3 for me - good main campaign but completely shit DLC rather than BL3's surprisingly decent DLC but pretty dull main story. After a few of the post-game levels, it looked like too much of a slog for me so knocked it on the head. Thought the DLC might help things along but no, it's just a load more encounters that probably should have been free DLC rather than paid

message 1964: by [deleted user] (new)

I did wonder about picking up the DLC given how good it was for BL3. Will pass though based on what you've said. Plenty in the backlog anyway without DLC.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I'll likely pick up Gotham Knights tomorrow. Don't see too much in the next few months I'm desperate to play (a couple of maybes, maybe) so will likely take the gamble. Not sure if it's completely what I'm in the mood for at the minute though.

And I know I complained about it the other week, but I really wish PS would sort out the PS5 store. Their "new games" section is missing some recently released games, and often includes a few relatively old titles. And the "all PS5 games" section just won't sort by release date properly, with half the new games and pre-orders appearing near the bottom and the other half at the top. Not the end of the world but it's a little irritating for someone who is pretty much always looking for a new game

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I'll give it a chance anyway. Never been one to pay much attention to reviews, plus often when I go into a game that I don't have particularly high expectations for, it ends up being more fun than those I do have expectations of.

And surely it can't be much worse than ME Andromeda or God of War ;)

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Ping! Days Gone. Bit of a slog, but a fun one! Too much busy work and mini-missions/quests to pad the game out, but still a really good game :)

I read somewhere that the devs probably knew they weren't going to have a sequel greenlit so they just put absolutely everything they had developed/thought of into the game and to hell with restraint. That's what it feels like lol.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments They are kind of taking the piss with Persona 5. I think it's now on Game Pass but the PS5 version they expect you to pay another £50 even if you've already bought Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal on PS4. Add Persona 5 Strikers to that and they are really milking it for all it's worth.

And sort of looking forward to giving Gotham Knights a go. I've only skim read a little about it, but it sounds like it's buggy and not well thought out but there is a little bit of fun to be had in there. Might be one that's flaws make it more enjoyable than if it was polished. Pretty sure it's going to be nowhere near the 65 odd quid they are charging for it though, so may hold off and pick up later

message 1974: by [deleted user] (new)

I watched Gaming Bolts review of GK and they gave it 7/10. Basically it's similar to the Arkham games just not as good and fairly generic. They still said its a decent game.

Not seen ACG's review yet but I imagine it's in 'wait for a sale territory'.

Does anyone know if the New Tales from the Borderlands game is full game or episodic?

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Could be wrong but I think New Tales from the Borderlands is the full game. On the store anyway there's no mention of episodes in the description or anywhere and reckon they'd want to avoid toys being thrown from the pram by mislabeling.

I just watched IGN's review of GK and its a bit harsher. 5/10 and mentions of performance issues with weirdly, the other review made no mention of.

Well I've signed up for PS+ essential. Going to be playing MW2 on my PS5. And I bought a cheap 2nd hand copy of Battlefield 2042. I have noticed games on PS5 seem more colourful in HDR than on my series X which is starting to sway me across a little. I might also buy Mafia 1 Definitive Edition on my PS5 as that's on sale for £12.49. And I've just added several games to my backlog after subbing to PS+: The Last Guardian, Resident Evil 7, Superhot, Hot Wheels Unleashed. And I have MW2, GoW Ragnorok and TLOU 1 remake all to come. And Plague Tale Requiem to play. My back log has definitely shot up.

message 1978: by [deleted user] (new)

That's a great backlog. I bought Mafia 1 about 2 years ago for the then bargain price of £15 on disc. It's still in the selephane.

Error | 408 comments I'm temped to start up Persona 5, but I've heard it is an extremely long game. I've struggled to stick to these long RPGs lately. Plus, I'm due to start up a Halloween game. Evil Within 2 might have to take precedence.

Also, the Digital Foundy for Gotham Knights is fairly brutal. 30FPS on new gen but choppy and dips into the 20s. He felt that Arkam Knight looked better graphically.

Hisense 43E77HQTUK QLED Gaming Series 43-inch 4K UHD Dolby Vision HDR Smart TV with YouTube, Netflix, Disney + Freeview Play and Alexa Built-in, Bluetooth and WiFi, TUV Certificated (2022 NEW) https://amzn.eu/d/ge06bjS

It looks pretty good for the price but definitely don’t expect it to compare to a TV that’s hundreds of pounds more. I had a quick Google and it has quite a low peak brightness of 250 nits so don’t expect spectacular HDR (and I wouldn’t use it in a bright room) and an underpowered user interface which can make it slow and clunky. So if you’re buying it for streaming perhaps not the best choice. It has VRR though and ALLM for gaming and a low input lag of 20ms. Of course no 120hz at this price as the screen is 60hz. It does have eARC if you have a surround sound system but only one hdmi 2.1 port so eARC or VRR/ALLM on a ps5 would be a choice of one or the other. Looks fine for the price but don’t expect to be wowed. One ps5 owner on the Amazon seemed to give a good balanced review:

“This TV has been a great companion for my PS5. The HDR looks surprisingly great and it was easy to calibrate. Colours are on par with Samsung Qled, contrast maybe not so but still good, you have to LOOK for the lack of black to notice it. I did notice slight flickering on some fine details which can prove to be distracting, but it's not often enough to kill the TV for me.
If you're buying this for the smart stuff, I would maybe look elsewhere. Netflix and Disney worked well enough, but YouTube kept freezing up requiring a complete quit. Plex works about as well as it does on a console which is nice. There's also a lot of missing services, where is Nowtv? The UI is just generally slow and unresponsive too, make sure you have a 4k console or a stick or you may be out of luck for some services.
Overall this TV is good for the price, you don't need to spend big bucks to get a nice TV.”

Thanks R. When I bought my current TV 12 years ago I knew what I needed. I really haven't a clue these days and must admit I don't even know what most of those acronyms are.

I'm wondering if buying this or a similar priced TV may be false economy. Might have a rethink and look at upping my budget if possible. Thanks mate.

No problem. TVs are a bit of minefield. I bought my new for next gen TV in 2020 and feel disappointed and it got generally good reviews. I’m thinking of replacing it already and it cost me £1300. The more you can spend the better but there does come a point where you can spend too much for hair splitting improvements. And you definitely need to do your research. I’m sure the TV you linked would be fine for console only if you don’t care too much about having the best HDR and 120hz and deep blacks.

VRR - variable refresh rate. Stops screen tearing and overcomes the stuttering of games which have choppy frame rate.
ALLM - auto low latency. It automatically puts your console in game mode but when you come to watch video on PS5 it will enable the TV’s picture processing automatically for best picture quality.
eARC - is for higher bandwidth audio used by the latest surround sound Dolby mostly.

Your best place for researching TVs is rtings.com. Type in the model number and it will tell you all you need.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I really don't understand reviewers. They seem to turn a blind eye to some games flaws and be hyper-critical with others even if they are similar in quality. I get the feeling if you gave them 2 games identical in gameplay, story etc but had 2 different names, they'd give them 2 different scores.

I spent a fair chunk of the weekend playing Gotham Knights and there really isn't a lot wrong with it. Maybe not Arkham Asylum or City but I'm enjoying it a lot more than Arkham Knight. A couple of slightly irritating insta-fail sections and a couple of not-so-fun boss fights but other than that definitely not a bad game. It's a solid 7/10, doesn't do anything new but doesn't do anything too badly either. I reckon I'm about 3/4 of the way through so doubt my opinion's going to change much.

Only had one or two graphical issues in 15-20 hours, adding to my thoughts that any flaws it does have are relatively minor and are found in pretty much every game of its type.

Trophy-wise it's looking fairly straightforward, apart from the collectibles which look a right pain, it's not looking like they've included anything daft like the knightfall protocol or whatever it was. Doesn't look like there's anything difficult anyway.

I reckon scientists should conduct some research into the bizarre phenomenon of reviewers all waking up on the wrong side of bed at the same time ;)

Morning all. Gamed a fair bit over the weekend. Started the MW2 campaign and now I'm around 2/3rds of the way through. Not much to say really except it's a typical COD campaign. Some missions are fun, some a bit mediocre, but on the whole enjoyable. It's defo trying to recapture COD of the past with a reasonably good AC-130 mission and a sniper mission which isn't too bad but not as good as the one back in the day on MW1 (2007). The graphics are decent on PS5 and the Amsterdam mission looks pretty amazing. It also has some difficulty spikes even on normal difficulty. 7/10 so far. It kinda lacks the shoe-horned in blockbuster COD mission (at least so far) but good gun play and some great locations (the oil rig). Also played an hour of Hot Wheels Unleashed. Yea a good fun arcadey racer with good graphics. I even won my first and only multiplayer match. I will definitely revisit to play the campaign at some point.

Glad you're enjoying GK Decky.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Finished the story in Gotham Knights and no big complaints from me. Was definitely an improvement and more fun than AK for me, even if the rest of the world disagrees ;) Nothing really special but nothing terrible either. Was a perfectly solid effort on PS5 at least

Might wait a few weeks before attempting the plat, as there is a bit more to it than I thought. Looks like a partial 2nd playthrough is needed. I could probably fly through it quick enough by skipping cut-scenes etc but probably makes more sense to leave it until there's a decent collectibles map, as they still look like being the only pain

So on a seperate topic I've ordered a new TV. I want one that has a proper HDMI 2.1 implementation not this half-arsed version that Sony implemented on my current TV. Lesson here is never buy a TV on a promised future firmware update for HDMI 2.1. Anyway it arrives on Saturday so pretty excited for a new gaming TV albeit I've wasted a small fortune on the TV it replaces (which is now going in the bedroom but complete and utter overkill for a bedroom TV). I'd only get 1/3rd of the original price I paid for it so I'd rather keep it than recoup not very much.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Not sure what I'm in the mood for at the minute. Think I might go back to Gotham Knights over the weekend and try and knock out the plat, but apart from that I'm struggling for inspiration.

I've been playing Hot Wheels and it's an enjoyable game. A good PS+ offering I'm a little burned out on racing games though after the NFS slog so looking for something to play along side it.

Even though I have a sizable backlog I'm seriously thinking of buying COD MW2 today. Its the only new release I'm excited about, I fancy some shooting and a 6-8 linear campaign mode sounds very appealing atm. I think I've talked myself into it.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping! Gotham Knights. Collectibles in linear games are fine but really don't know why developers think they are a good idea in open world types. And if you are going to include them, at least make them a bit more obvious. Apart from that enjoyed it, any complaints from me would be very minor ones.

Not sure what to move onto next, at the minute I've made a start on Persona 5 Royal, for what seems like the millionth playthrough, so it may end up being plat no 200. Other than that, I'll likely pick up WRC Generations on Friday. November's looking a bit too quiet new game wise for my liking, have a feeling I'll be saying "don't know what I'm in the mood for" more than a few times

Congrats Deck.

I played some Hot Wheels over the weekend. I've beaten all the boss races, uncovered all the secrets and got all the unleashed times on quick races.

The main thing to do next is get unleashed times on all time trials but this will be the make or break trophy for the plat. Each time trial has two times to beat, with the unleashed time being the lower and therefore more difficult. I'm on 13/32 atm and getting to the point I'll need to look up short cuts on YT. Not sure I'm in the mood for that really.

I didn't pick up MW2 over the weekend but seriously giving it consideration for tonight or tomorrow as I have a few days of work this week and an empty house. Would be an ideal time to blast through the campaign.

Morning all. Played a fair bit of MW2 multiplayer over the weekend. First night I was doing really well getting loads of really good K/Ds. And then Saturday and Sunday I've been getting completely destroyed. I do wonder if the skill based matchmaking has but me with a bunch of sweats now due to playing so well on the first night. Or if because I don't play it non-stop that people are becoming more familiar with the maps/weapons than me and the initial 'everybody is learning the new maps and weapons' and that it's a more level playing field in the first few hours/first day. Anyway. I like it, more of the same, but not sure any of the maps feel that special. Also played another couple of campaign missions - only a couple to go. Definitely no where near one of the best COD campaigns but looking like a reasonable enough 7/10.

Also got my new gaming TV. I wanted one with much higher peak brightness for better HDR and with a 120Hz mode that is actually 4k (not 1080p like my previous TV where Sony lied about its ability). Anyway, thankfully the new TV has much better HDR near blinding me for bright highlights and 120Hz is now sharper. Happier now.

Error | 408 comments I made it 6 chapters into Evil Within 2 as my Halloween game. I'm getting re-acquainted with the game play. The series is definitely unique within the horror genre. If the game doesn't go off the rails at the end and become an arcade shooter (like last time) I'll say it is superior to the first game.

Also put more time into Chivalry II. The game has become my go-to for a short little burst of fun. I'm starting to find myself in the top of the leader boards more frequently as well, which is nice.
