"The AFL is weighing up switching the match-ups for six teams next weekend, forced into an on-the-fly change to the fixture for the first time, due to border restrictions and Covid cases.

With five rounds left in the season, clubs have been told they will still play the five teams they have left on their fixtures, but Round 19 (next weekend) and Round 20 games may need to be swapped.

Gold Coast’s clash with Melbourne in Darwin appears unlikely to go ahead, and Brisbane’s planned trip to the MCG to face Hawthorn is also at risk.

But those games can’t simply be swapped because the Demons and Hawks just played each other, requiring a third game to be altered - that being Western Bulldogs v Adelaide, scheduled for Ballarat."

So, hang fire folks, and I'll let you know what the the Round 19 fixture is as soon as it's announced. All this for 16 new cases in Victoria and 105 in New South Wales. Australia is determined to eradicate the virus completely while only about 12% of our population is fully vaccinated.

The Covid situation here still has the folk in charge of the fixture tearing out their hair. Victoria should (fingers crossed) come out of Lockdown 5.0 on Tuesday midnight but New South Wales will remain a no-go area for some time yet. So who knows who will be playing who and where.
