TART Challenge - Round 3 - The Loitering Layabouts (7)

Just a bit hard to get a solid block of time to devote to the book but plenty of options for snippets I think!

I love this world - I'm vacillating between 4 or 5 stars, but really, why not be generous :) This is a reread in preparation for book 2 and my previous review stands in for a precis.
Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series now that I recall all the characters.

Books selected for this task need to have been initially published between 1.1.2000 and 12.31.2010. If there is a date listed at the top of the editions page, use that one. Otherwise I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format for the qualification. Please include the initial publication date in your completion posts.

I wish we had family close enough. Of course, my kids still live with me so that works. For our fancy Easter dinner we'll be having Taco Bell. Yep, you heard me right. And sadly, we're all really excited about it. Two of us are Keto, Two are Gluten-Dairy free and the youngest eats whatever she wants. So for us, this cheat day is pure heaven!! :p

The only thing going for this book was the easy reading. I mean it was so stupid I really didn't have to pay attention. Lots of "Honey" and "Darling" their first night together then the typical Siren Romance drama and kidnapping/war/in fighting that always comes with it. Weirdly enough, I'll move on to the next in the series that has enough pages because I can read them fast. Sad but true!

Haha! We nipped over to my In-Laws place 2 hours away for a 2 night stay. Made absolutely hogs of ourselves on our meals and waaaaaaay too much chocolate eggs and bunnies!!
I figure the one day doesn't do much harm - we are roughly keto, but not really, if that makes any sense :)

Ha! You should hear the debates in our house over food ingredients. It's ridiculous!! My sister and hubby are keto but they only look at carbs, not how crappy the ingredients are. My daughter and I are eating "clean" because we're trying to figure out what is upsetting her tummy so much. I figured I would join her so she wouldn't be alone so all "clean" food. No msg, no gluten, no "natural flavors", no canola/vegetable oils, no sugar or icky sugar alcohols, no white starches, all organic foods for the things deemed "dirty" like berries and such. Grocery shopping takes me waaay too long and we end up at Whole Foods way too often. It's exhausting. Not to mention I could ditch my 15 year old car for the amount of money spent.

Upping the rating of this gem to 3 stars for the menage and smexing alone. Story still stupid, still insta love with sappy nicknames, still awfully trite conflict. Why did I used to think these were a pretty decent read? I don't get my past self at all. :)

Haha - we go organic for leafy greens and anything that we know gets sprayed with pesticide :) But otherwise we just mostly avoid white potato, rice and pasta to a minimal. Only sourdough bread. Minimal sugar - we do eat small squares of 70%+ dark chocolate for a treat if we like.
But in reality, if we want a toasted sandwich when we are out - we get it. And I won't give up coffee, not that I think that's absolutely banned. I'd say we are more like your 'clean' diet relatively speaking - but not full on.
I did a keto diet version before Christmas last year, incorporating restricted fasting, and we both really enjoyed it. So now we stick to the intermittent fasting (again, roughly) and just try to eat fairly clean, with protein (not huge amounts) satisfying our hunger :)

This is a comfort read for me; in this case it fit the requirements of the required decade perfectly :) I love the cinderfella aspect of this, although in reality, Cassidy's talent achieves his success without any external assistance... Malcolm and his brothers are highly amusing and create the humour needed to offset the mild pathos.
I will no doubt read this again in another year or two ;)

I slept most of the afternoon and evening yesterday and am feeling the need to go back to sleep this morning... my house will not appreciate me not getting my chores done and I really am getting ticked off about missing my reading time... hopefully, this will pass soon... grrr
BTW: My sister is pre-diabetic and we are researching the ramifications of a Keto diet to help with that... it is showing promise with just a few unwanted nutrienal side-effects.

I have to read a book for another challenge which fits this one as well, so we would be covered.

Thanks, Lisa! I appreciate that! I will finish my book today, somehow... grr
You can count on me for the next time we have extra books to read! I just think this is the residual effects of the meds I had to take after my shot... hence why I don't take medications as a general rule.

Its fine. I have a book book 7 in the series you are reading which fits this challenge and another one that Jane runs.

I really struggled to come up with a rating for this book. There were bits of a good story in amongst all the sex, well they were porn stars.
I do find it amazing that people just go 'ok' when told their partner is a vampire and there was also some unwelcome FF in this book. It was heading for 2 stars but then the sex slowed down and a story developed.

Innocence... that thing from our childhood that few of us recall that can so violently be ripped away from those that should have been protected by the ones that actually did the unthinkable.
This story was so tender in the love that Jonty and Orlando were slowly finding in each other and the traumatic details of their own childhoods are revealed to us. Then we see the harm that similar events have caused another and the horrible outcome of the trauma that it caused. I will be honest, that I would have wished for a different reason for the murders, just because I have a mother's heart and this story ripped it to pieces by the anguish of the reality of the harm that is done to the innocent for no other reason than the perpetrator is an absolute monster that was never punished for their crimes.
The one redeeming factor of this story for my heart was the love and growth that Jonty and Orlando found as things progressed. I realize that this is, I believe, a twelve-book series so it may take me a while to get through them all but I hope that the next one will bring me as much joy as I had watching Jonty slowly navigate the genus brain that is Orlando to a place where their love could be shared not only mentally but also physically.

What nutritional side effect do you mean Donna? I'm full on diabetic which is why I tried to do keto for so long. Stupid sugar that I love so much!!
ps. I'm paying for that Taco Bell Easter. Not sure it was worth it....

I am really enjoying this series. The MCS are both interesting whilst being supported by a great cast of secondary characters.
This time Orlando and Jonty get involved in trying to solve a murder when they discover a dead body at an exhibition. This is then coupled with Orlando going off to try and solve his family mystery at the death of his grandma.

Living well away from town, we don't have a lot of options for cheating on sugar or carbs unless I cook it - and that's too much effort for me most of the time. Occasionally I'll bake banana cake but HB cleans that up pretty quickly ~ I'm lucky to get a slice 😂
