Char | 17457 comments I finished listening to All the Ugly and Wonderful Things and what a story! I'm not even sure what to say about it, but it was a super compelling listen that I genuinely loved. The subject matter is certainly dark and the book itself well written.

The favorite novella re-read seems to be working. I read UR, Stephen King last night and started on They Rise, Hunter Shea. Then am going to re-read Xibalba, and The Calm Before the Swarm: A Novella, by Michael McBride, after that I'll probably re-read a James Herbert novel.

Kara (ladykarasgmailcom) Hello All,
I just finished Crossroads, it was read as a buddy read with Inciminci. My review does have a few spoilers in it but if interested you can find it on my page. It's a good book overall I gave it 3.5 which I rounded up to a 4 star review.
Sorry I don't know how to add the links like others do. : (

If you're just trying to link to the book itself, click the "add book/author" above the chat box and a window will pop up from which you choose the book.
If you want to link your review, just go to the actual page of your review and copy the url/address in the address bar at the top and paste it along with your comment.

Kara (ladykarasgmailcom) Thanks Alan,
I'll try to remember that, but that's not always easy as my mind is usually in the books I'm reading.

message 210: by Randy (new)

Randy Money | 432 comments Good to hear, Inciminci. Hand's novel is in the TBR for later in the summer.

Just finished Ruth Rendell's The New Girlfriend: And Other Stories. Some good crime/mystery stories written in a conversational style that in a few cases masks some serious mental issues. One story ("The Green Road Quephanda") would work in a fantasy anthology, and two could fit comfortably in a horror anthology ("Hare's House" and "Loopy").

Catherine Cavendish | 314 comments Shadow Of The Sasquatch by J.H. Moncrieff Shadow Of The Sasquatch by J.H. Moncrieff

A distraught family in the wilds of Oregon call on Nat McPherson (whom we last saw in the author's brilliant Return to Dyatlov Pass ) but will she be up to chasing this monster?

Gripping, strong plot and characters

Catherine Cavendish | 314 comments A Different Kind of Light by Simon Bestwick A Different Kind of Light by Simon Bestwick
Atmospheric, creepy novella from a highly underrated author whose ability to deliver consistently chilling, scary horror is well worth checking out. Caution: Read this with all the lights on - and I mean all. Oh, and make sure you have a spare set of bulbs to hand as well.

Catherine Cavendish | 314 comments Farallon Island Farallon Island by Russell James by Russell James
A boy discovers a cave no one knew existed. It would have been better if he hadn't.

Meanwhile, a man, desperate to escape a dangerous life of crime in 1930, sees the remote island as a great place to hide from the gang, and protect his wife and unborn child. This was not one of his better decisions.

The ensuing story is fast-paced, gripping, full of atmosphere and has some really great plot twists
