How do you fell about the Charley Davidson series for task 9? It's usually a fun read.

I've read them all, but I can reread if you all want to go with that.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I'm not a huge dystopia/apocalypse fan. Kind of depends on what it is: like I love the Kate Daniels series. Plus with everything happening this year, not sure I'm in the mood to read a book about a disease or war that wiped out most of the planet.

I've read a couple of Kristin Ashley books and I wasn't all that impressed. But I'm willing to give her another try. I do have her Ghosts and Reincarnation series on my wish list.

Sommersgate House (Ghosts and Reincarnation, #1) by Kristen Ashley

My library has the Sarina Bowen hockey series. So I'm good with reading one of her books.

Arsenic in the Azaleas (Lovely Lethal Gardens, #1) by Dale Mayer

I just downloaded this for free on Kindle. Might only be free in the US. Also downloaded the audio version from Scribd. Published Jan 22, 2019.

So that's what I'll be reading.

I read the first two and then kind of forgot about it. I remember really liking the first one, so maybe I'll finally get back into the series.

This was an easy and quick read. I took me a while to warm to Peter and Wendy but in the end I liked the way their story went (the wonders of a good groveling). The side characters were the best tough and I'm so curious to see what will happen in the next books.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I had 3 hrs left in a book that was being repossessed by my library today so I finished that last night. I have my task 1 book out in Kindle and audio. I can usually listen to an audio book in the afternoons at work.

I missed the comment about the Charley Davidson books yesterday. It's a great series, unfortunately I have already read the whole thing. But I could reread one if really needed.

Nayara (nayalink) | 630 comments Other suggestions of series we could read:

Lara Adrian - Midnight Breed
Gena Showalter - Lords of the Underworld
Kresley Cole - Immortals After Dark
Jennifer Estep - Elemental Assassin
Sherrilyn Kenyon - Dark Hunter

This series have a lot of books, maybe we can find something we haven't read yet

message 63: by Mary X (last edited Sep 14, 2020 06:52AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I haven't finished any of those Nayara. My least favorite would be the Dark Hunter series. But I haven't given it up. I've read the first 2 or 3 and they haven't proven addicting for me yet.

That reminds that I have an audible credit to use. I'm on the 1 credit every 3 months plan and I've been using them on the Elemental Assassins series which my library doesn't have.

Shan ~A~ | 1830 comments Since we all seem to like Darynda Jones and at least 2 of us has read the entire Charley Davidson series, how about we read her new series Sunshine Vicram series.

I’m hoping it has the same feel as Charley.

Just an idea.

Or if no one minds rereads we can do Psy-Changling (which I adore), Ghost & Reincarnation (which I recently started rereading anyway), Fever series (which used to reread before a new book in the series was published), The Highlander series (same as Fever series, since some of the characters are seen in both).

*Nalini Singh, Kristen Ashley, Karen Marie Moning

message 65: by Nayara (new)

Nayara (nayalink) | 630 comments I'm always up for reading the Psy-Changeling series

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I like Nalini Singh and Karen Marie Moning. I lost track of the Fever series when it went from the original main character to another. I wonder if I should reread the original series before I start the ones after the switch. I've read all the Highlander books but I read them so long ago that it wouldn't be a hardship to reread them.

I think I got up to 10 or 12 in the the Psy-Changling series.

I can easily get Bad Day for Sunshine from multiple of my libraries.

It's been a while since I read the first two books in this series, not sure why I stopped, though I say that and I'm not that excited to read the next one - maybe that's what stopped me? Anyway, I liked this book and it made me laugh so I would recommend it.

Hmm. This series has good potential. But not if Doreen stays as clueless about life as she is in this one. I don't drink coffee and even I know that espresso is coffee. Then after finding a body in her garden, she finds what is likely the murder weapon and touches it and brings in the house. Also the parrot seemed a little too intelligent. I know they are smart and can learn to mimic a lot of words. But this one seems to understand and be able to participate in actual human conversations. But the animals and the people were entertaining enough where I'll check out more books in the series. I liked that it was a relatively quick read too and not bogged down with more pages than it really needed.

Review: A book with with sex, but no substance. At least with the main characters. The most interesting story in this piece is what is happening in Ethan's life with his deceased wife and what she was up to before she died.

Everything that was between Sebastian and Ashley besides the sex happened off page. The connection they had, besides the lust, was something that was developed prior to the reader entering this story.

Sebastian is a playboy who no takes seriously, and why would they? The opening sequence tells it all about the type of man he has been. Then 24 hrs after seeing Ashley again he has finally seen the error of his ways??

Anyway, the book didn't suck, but it didn't hold much weight IMO.

Still if you are looking for a quick read with some decent sex scenes and low on angst this is the book for you.

I will still go on to read the other books in this series because I am curious about how Ethan will get past the things that he had to endure in this book and what type of women can shake Parker up a bit.

In the Urban Fantasy Bingo, this book hits almost all squares. It got vampires, angels, demons (big boss Lucifer included), and zombies. Really, if it had ghosts and shifters it would be YATZHEE (yeah, not the same game).

But even with all these delicious messed up mix I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. Don't ask me why, I don't know. Jimmy was still the same drunk asshole that I love and the humor was still sharp but something was missing. Maybe was the plot, maybe the bad guys were not as fun as Mason was, maybe a certain character simply dying pissed me off (hello, unfinished business)...

On the bright side, this time I didn't had to used Google so often to understand the references.

Juliet Blackwell is a favorite of mine. This us my favorite series of hers. I enjoyed the Alcatraz story line in this one. Lily faces an old foe with the demon Sitri. The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars for me is that I thought the battle or whatever would be a little more epic. Also, she's marrying Sailor but seems to spend very little time with him. He Also keeps a lot of secrets from her. I hope this isn't the end of the series.

Review: I'm glad I didn't completely judge this book by it's cover or else I would have been sorely disappointed. The cover (and the title) gives the impression that this is going to be about a kilt wearing highlander. It's not.

The book takes place in Victorian England. Yes, our hero is a dragon shifter, and yes he is a highlander, but we do not travel to the wilds of Scotland in this story.

What lies between the covers was actually pretty good. I love my heroines smart and strong minded, and that is exactly what we got here. She was inquisitive, which is how she found herself mixed up in this mess, but I think that also made her more open-minded than anyone else would have been.

Mina challenged Stephen in all ways, and that is exactly the type of woman he needed.
