I just picked up absolute Crisis on Infinite Earths yesterday.. found at half priced books for a pretty good deal. Honestly I have always wanted to read Justice league and thought I would start at grant morrison, but now I may have to go back eve further. Its going to take me years to get up to current continuity.

Uncommon Comic Fan | 3 comments I have been a DC fan for many years and have recently picked up some Absolute DC books.. I've wanted to dip my toes in some marvel, but honestly I am only interested in X-men, although immortal Hulk has looked interesting as well. Started reading SAGA finally, so far so good!

I first got started with Justice League with Morrisons run back when that originally came out. Recently finished the original stories, Vol. 1 (and found it difficult) and have read some of the 80's stuff as well, which was more palatable.

X-Men has a long and complicated history, but I would recommend starting with Claremont's initial run. If you can handle the Stan's 60's writing read the original X-Men series just to get the basics down.

Let us know what you think about the Cap/IM series.

How far back on the DC - 80's or 60's/70's?

I was willing to give it a shot based on how much I've liked a few of Gillen's other works (love what I've red of die so far and also really liked his Kid Loki Journey Into Mystery run).

I was on the fence with both V1 and V2, since I own all of the single issues. I'm re-evaluating my collecting "needs" and backing off from a lot of new purchases.

I had such a backlog of stuff from dcbs that they had to send two boxes (and still didn't get everything ordered).

J | 531 comments DCBS still hasn't shipped my January box yet. And nothing was added last week even though a couple books hit IST. I really hate dealing with customer service but guess I'm going to have to.

My January box was already quite large. Can't imagine a two month box.

For me, I've updated my space a few times over the years and it never seemed to be enough. I'm approaching the end of collecting and would like to keep everything in the space I have, which means I need to stop buying and probably sell at least some of what's in there now.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on with them: If they're trying to save money and wait until you've built up enough items to ship, or just behind on everything, no stock? All of the above?

message 7786: by J (new)

J | 531 comments BZ, that's what's so strange. My January order already had seven omnis. Plus if you sign up for monthly shipments, you should get your shipment monthly! Ha.

I'm not mad about it, but it seems weird. I'm going to shoot them an email later today.

I know IST was moving back to Fort Wayne, IN and seems I got an email saying that would delay orders with them, but I don't remember for sure and don't have the email any longer. Not sure why that would affect DCBS. We shall see.

Right, I think that's why I had two boxes this time but don't recall getting one last month. I just don't know all of their logistics of receiving their stock, even on separate orders and how/when they decide to put them together to ship.

They may also just be having personnel issues and are short-handed. Hopefully, you can get some resolution. Just asking the question may be enough to get your order moving along.

Just now getting back online after coming back from vacation. Not quiet caught up on everything. =)

Looking at the DCBS orders one book that caught my eye is a limited to 500 copies hardback biography of Dave Cockrum: https://www.dcbservice.com/product/fe...

Looks like I am getting the Iron Fist new version omnibus, John's 2nd Justice League omnibus, and the Wolverine OHC.

I haven't received anything except for my Snyder Batman vol. 2 since I signed up on dcbs.

And I got one ready to ship, and 9 awaiting since June. (I don't remember when they're officially released though.)

I really enjoy TwoMorrow's publications. I get their Alter Ego, Back Issue, and Jack Kirby Collector magazines, and have several of their artists books and artists biographies. I'm also buying their comics history volumes as they're reprinted.

So I heard back from DCBS about my January box. This is their reply:

"Hi Joseph,

Since you did not have a November order there was no shipment scheduled for January. Since we were behind due to delays we have just started processing the incoming shipments for the last couple of weeks you should be seeing updates regarding those items in your account now.

(general pleasantries)"

My reply was this:

"So, because there was not an order in November, there was no shipment in January even though my "next shipment" listed around 20 books? That doesn't make any sense at all.

If I stopped ordering from DCBS completely, does that mean I would never get my books previously ordered??? "

Am I missing something here? (It was probably closer to 15 books, but a good number of omnis.)

I think they are just behind on getting things out. Something must have happened in December: holidays, weather, attrition

message 7797: by Erik, Moderator (new)

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
I just got my December Order from DCBS a month late. My Jan order is due next week; they were clear that they will not combine monthly boxes.

The gist is, they are understaffed and there are shipping issues.

I expect this to continue for a bit, the comic industry definitely isn’t immune to what is happening to many other businesses right now.

The real misstep with DCBS is not getting in front of the issue with proper communication. A simple email to their client list explaining why they are back logged, would go a long way and many customers would likely be much more forgiving.

message 7798: by J (new)

J | 531 comments So received this from DCBS in answer to my query:

"Hi Joseph,

Our shipping policies are laid out in the faq... If you skip a month of pre-orders then the corresponding monthly shipment November being January would also be skipped if you stop ordering all together then we would hold your final shipment until all items came in for you."

I guess I never thought of looking in the FAQ for shipping policies, but ding me for thinking that signing up for "monthly" shipments meant you got your books monthly.

And man, some books can come out almost a year after showing up for preorder. Seems crazy to keep things on a shelf that long instead of offering to ship for an additional charge.

Anyway, as I said before, I'm not mad about it. At least I have clarification now. Hope this helps those of you who use DCBS.

message 7799: by Erik, Moderator (new)

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
That’s wild! So if you just stop ordering . . . You’d have to wait months for everything to come in and then they would ship it?

What if you do weekly ordering? Weird.
