Nice. I enjoyed Gillen's run on Journey Into Mystery with Loki.
I haven't fallen in love with the Epic collections but I hear you on some of those omnibus editions being uncomfortable to read with how big they are.

Yeah not a fan of the epics either mainly because the subject matter is pre 1997 which isn't my jam (except maybe some things from the early 90s for nostalgia sake). But the Collected Editions are generally more modern. I also like OHCs but they are a little less comfortable to read ;) Looking forward to Loki for sure!

It's that time of year to vote for the official best books of the year on Goodreads. I've only read a handful of the entries. Nothing I was over the moon about.

Only one I've heard anything good about is Thirsty Mermaids but doubt it is my shtick...

The graphic novel section rarely has much that would be typical comic book material. I don't think there was any Marvel or DC material there this time around?

I think it's similar to movie awards (Oscars) in that there is a mentality that the superhero (and fantasy) genre can't possibly have any writing that sets it apart and above the medium. (LOTRs The Return of the King being the biggest exception.)
To be fair, most of what Marvel and DC put out are very mediocre "action fests" and there hasn't been much this last year worthy of nomination. However, there are a few classic worthwhile examples (Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, V for Vendetta) and maybe even a few modern ones. I don't remember if it was nominated but Tom King's Vision series should have been and to a lesser extent, despite it not being as entertaining, his Miracle Man had a lot of commentary on mental health.

I think last year Harleen from DC was on the list and got my vote. Not sure if anything else I've read since then jumps into the same conversation as being that good. I did like Wonder Woman Dead Earth.
I'll likely be out of pocket the next few days for the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Thanks for everyone here commenting and keeping this place interesting. I hope you all are well and holiday is kind to you if you are celebrating it. Cheers.

Mine just arrived yesterday. I think they usually have a tracking number for each package. I usually check mine if I start to wonder where it's at. =)

I need to pick up a copy to go with my volume 1.
I read Berserk DLX vol 9 over the weekend. Another solid entry on par with the previous volumes. I've cut back on my purchases a bit with Christmas on it's way.
DCBS has their new pre-order entries up for review. I haven't looked at them yet but will get on that soon. =)

On DCBS I preordered the King Conan omnibus vol 1 DM cover. This series lasted 55 issues so that sounds like two volumes however, the first book is issues 1-19. I see this issues were double sized though so it's like 38 issues worth of material plus whatever extras they throw in there. So the series might be three omnibus volumes?
I also grabbed Fullmetal Alchemist Fullmetal Ed HC vol 16 and pre-ordered Marvel Masterworks Captain America volume 14. Volume 13 sold out before I grabbed a copy from IST this time so I'll pre-order this one. I actually got my volume 13 copy from Amazon.
I'm really tempted to grab this WWI art book that is also up for order on DCBS - a bit of an unusual book for preorder: https://bookpalace.com/acatalog/info_...

Felt weird trying to make a purchase on IST with these hiccups, plus it’s been a good 3 months since my last order.

Sometimes the DM cover and regular end up getting send out at different times. Looks like the regular should be coming next week or the week after. I prefer the DM so I picked up that one. First omnibus I've picked up in a minute (October was the last one I ordered from IST).

Thanks Rel, I ended up buying the DM variant anyways, and just preordered Hellfire Gala DM on OPB. Might as well give them a shot.

I’ve got the TASCHEN 75 Years of Marvel book, absolutely beautiful. I’d consider pursuing these forthcoming collections if I didn’t already have most of what they’re planning in other formats, but dang they’re expensive, and I worry a bit about sustainability.
And agree about the news about George Pérez, quite sad & very few deserve a life cut short like that. I respect his choice to not pursue further treatment, and hope the time he has left is as pain free and enjoyable as possible.

I was surprised to read in that article/news release that it was a decade long project. Seems they're at least planning on a long publication schedule.
But it does seem this material has been reprinted in sooo many different formats. I'm not sure who the target audience is.

I didn't know about the Alias reprint, i wish i cheked the list here out more careful... I hope i can find an Alias Omnibus Reprint for my next order, next month.

I was browsing through my emails. Just curious.

Got my copy of X-Men: Hellfire Gala Red Carpet Ed. on Tuesday. Very well-packaged, almost too good actually. The box was bigger length-wise than what IST typically ships in, and maybe 10-15 yards of bubble wrap used. Considering how thin Hellfire Gala is, it was both comical and made me feel a bit guilty about all the potential waste.
Free USPS Media Mail shipping, and they shipped a week before the book dropped on IST, so that was nice that it arrived on the official release date. Inside the box OPB stuck a flyer that on one side gave me a 2% discount code on a future order, and a notice to USPS inspectors on the other that argued how the book isn’t considered a comic book and therefore qualifies for media mail. I found this particularly humorous—I agree with them, but I know some USPS workers don’t.
Book was $60 in total. IST’s total for just this book with the shipping cost and tax would be $51.70, so for an extra $8.30 I got the book much more quickly and “free” packing materials for a couple of future eBay sales, haha. I guess not bad, but I’ll probably stick with IST unless their quality goes downhill. Rarely do I need books quickly, new releases almost always just get added to my reading pile.

Glad the experience went relatively well. I've kept my eye on them but haven't really had a reason to try them. I'm with you though: don't really need books quickly so I've been ok with DCBS and my once per month shipping. Plus my purchases are becoming fewer and fewer.

JohnIV wrote: "Just curious why you guys are opting for DCBS vs ToW, since ToW doesn't charge until they ship. It appears that ToW now only allows buying for future months in 2022 like DCBS."
For regular orders (not preorders) I moved away from ToW because their free shipping wasn't until you hit $100. However, I have never used them for preorders and didn't realize they switched to only doing that. Maybe I'll give them a try.
In general I prefer to keep my money in my hands for as long as possible, but putting money down early on books virtually guarantees me a copy. I think with ToW there's still the chance that they will run out of copies (if the supplier limits quantities for some reason) in which case paid for orders are more likely to get filled. Maybe that's just in my head but I've grown accustomed to DCBS and paying early.

Like Blindzider I prefer to keep my funding as long as possible. FWIW I haven't been deprioritized for shipment in 50+ Omnis from ToW so far, my ToW orders also show up in the IST shipping system a day before they go live on IST interestingly. Shrug. Welp, on with the show. :)
Happy New Year to everyone! I hope the holidays have been kind to you and those you hold dear.

Nice. Man, Marvel has a lot of omnibus volumes in this order.
It's always worthwhile to check out the Other section, organize by price and check the last few pages as there is usually some interesting books there. There is an XXL oversized printing for Spider-Man's first 21 issues that appears there along with some Gallery Edition hardcovers for multiple DC characters/artists. There are usually interesting looking art books, art history books, or books around films or series that you won't otherwise see because of what publishing house is putting them out.

Possibly? If you check CGN, the standard cover is already sold out, but the DM cover is still listed as pre-order. I’d honestly place the pre-order with them now.
I don’t really understand what’s going on with IST. I just read a comment on Reddit that IST isn’t selling any of the PRH reprints, which I guess explains why the Brubaker Captain America vol 1 omnis never dropped on IST today. Don’t understand why, though.
Edit: IST’s email today doesn’t back up the comment I saw about them supposedly not selling the PRH reprints. But their lack of reprints that CGN has is odd to me.
