Is the Lono series any good anyway? Or does the series finish out fine without it?

Thank you Blind. I shelved it last night and then did two Dark Horse HCs Falconspear and Tales from the Outerverse . . . As I was reading then I thought, “oh yeah, I love this stuff.” Hadn’t read so much in a long while because I couldn’t get excited about From Hell

BTW. Boom on kickstarter just launched several HC Omnibus edition options for the three Irredeemable stories.

I have bad news for you. Marvel is about to drop the rights for Conan so Savage Sword of Conan Omnibus series won't be completed and Marvel will only print 2 Omnibus of King Conan, if they don't cancel King Conan entairly because they are about to drop the rights.

I don't know when i will start to read my The Question Omnibus. Probably wait for the Omnibus series to get completed first. I don't know, how many vols. DC will print though.

I am curently reading League of Extraordinary Gentelmen, Jubilee Edition Omnibus. 5 issues in and it is a good read so far.

For what Marvel did print of the Conan material, they did a pretty decent job IMHO. Even if they don't finish out the series having the books they did put out is probably about the nicest way to collect the material unless you are into tracking down and reading the original issues.

I was doing a really good job of remembering what I ordered on DCBS but accidently ordered a second copy of King's Batman DLX vol 6 from IST last week. I got my monthly DCBS order yesterday and got my copy of that book from them.

In other news, I was thinking the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Last Ronin book from IDW was going to be a standard size hardcover but it is oversized.

J | 531 comments Picked up the King Conan Omnibus today. Wondering if Marvel is allowed to continue reprinting their material in Omni format now that they no longer have the license to the property.

I've heard both yes and no. Conan the King would finish this series.

Ordered the Nova Omnibus since it’s classic Marvel that I’ve never read before.

Decided to pass on the Peter David Hulk V5 although the completist in me is screaming very loudly.

message 7973: by J (new)

J | 531 comments I'm skipping on Nova for preorder but I'll pick it up when it's released. Budget is tight this month.

My preorder from DCBS this month was mostly trade pbs but did pick up the Black Label Rogues HC.

BZ, I really liked Nova back in the day. Kind of a Green Lantern type character. I can't remember now who the writer was but I do remember it had some of Carmine Infantino's Marvel art.

Thanks Joseph. I’m being very selective what I buy now and older Marvel that I haven’t read is mostly what I’m looking for. Glad to hear it will be worthwhile.

I'm a huge fan of Bronze age Marvel and DC and hope we see more omnis of this material, at least from Marvel. DC seems to be content with doing HCs that cover less material, but hope that Marvel will give us more. I definitely want Ms Marvel (Carol Danvers), Marvel Two in One, Spiderwoman, and hope they catch up with Avengers, Thor, Captain America, etc. in this era as omnis.

I got my copy of Lemire's Cosmic Detective in this week. Read it last night. The book is very nice though I didn't need the gilded page edges, would have preferred a slightly cheaper book.

The art was great and the story was interesting. The only negative was that it felt a bit short by the time I finished. I would be interested in more.

I received my Doctor Doom omnibus yesterday. It’s much larger than I was expecting. Looking forward to reading the Emperor Doom graphic novel and rereading Brubaker’s Book of Doom.

message 7979: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments I really wanted to pick that one up, but they expanded it considerably since I first remember reading about it, and it seemed like a waste for me to get it just for the graphic novel and Books of Doom in oversized format. One of my favorite villains, though. Enjoy it Blind!

I will! Conversely, I didn't buy the Wolverine V2 omnibus because I didn't want to buy it just for the graphic novel. I owned the rest of the contents already, although my son is still on my case about it because he read V1 and wants to continue the series.

I just finished Devil's Reign (Daredevil event) and it actually references Emperor Doom! What a coincidence!

I'm also curious how Marvel will collect the last few issues of DD. The last hardcover stops at 32, the series ends at 36, then the 6-7 issues for Devil's Reign. Hopefully just one more hardcover to finish that initial run. If you've read the series up to now the Devil's Reign arc is a worth conclusion.

Is this Devil's Reign a event like Shadowland ? Does it have enough issues to be print as omnibus ?

message 7983: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Devil’s Reign is six issues with an Omega issue that is mostly epilogue stuff. Even with a couple issues from the main series leading in it’s still pretty light for an omnibus so I’d say an OHC and that’s it. Now, an omnibus of Zdarskys entire run through this event would be a perfect omnibus.

Looks like DCBS has loaded their September books.

TKO has OHCs of Lemire Sentient book and the Sara WWII book with Epting art. I added both of those to my order.

Sara: https://www.dcbservice.com/product/se...

Sentient by Lemire: https://www.dcbservice.com/product/SE...

I'm looking at doing the Dark Night Metal omnibus. Is this one worth the omnibus vs the Absolute?

Brubaker's Velvet is getting a reprint in the Image solicits along with most if not all the Walking Dead OHCs. The Low and Deadly Class Remender books are listed for a reprint of the standard editions. Wolverine by Percy OHC vol 2 is on my list for order as well.

I wanted to add the Star Wars The Rebellion omnibus vol 1 and Spider-Man 2099 omnibus but I'm holding off to try to keep my order cost down to a reasonable amount. The $81 price point on Spider-man 2099 is pretty steep. :(

message 7985: by Ozan (new)

Ozan (dotanuki) | 222 comments I read Metal and it was terrible. I still don't know what i read...

message 7986: by Darth Bane (new)

Sentient is OK, but not Lemire’s strongest at all nor a very unique idea. I bought it aways back as I pretty much get every Lemire book.

I may not buy Spidey 2099 out of principal. This was one of the preorders they cancelled a month or two ago after I preordered it . . . And I just knew it would be offered the next month at a higher price . . . Here we are. That happened to about 5 of my preorders in the last month and I’m not going to reward the behavior by blindly repreordering them.

message 7989: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
I wasn't a fan of Metal either.

Has anyone tried to cancel a preorder made through DCBS? I know the FAQ says they don't and will charge a restock fee. Just curious if anyone has tried and if they were successful.

I loved Kirkman's Invincible. Still the best thing by him I've read and I've recommended it to several friends who also enjoyed it.

I've been reading his Oblivion Song also by Kirkman and it's good but not anywhere near the same level as Invincible and I can't really recommend it like I can Invincible. That said, I just read the first hardcover of Kirkman's Fire Power and loved it. It's ongoing so who knows where it will end up but this feels like it deserves to be in the conversation with Invincible at least. Anyone else reading this?
