Nick: forgot to say congrats on picking up a copy of Phalanx Covenant at a reasonable price! I was so excited to read that book when I got mine—that was like the pinnacle of my teenage collecting days. Man I miss Generation X. We need that series in omni form...

Nickviola | 1019 comments Thanks, Noel. I haven't read it since I was probably 9 so im excited too. I haven't read any new X-Men in forever, but can't wait for X-Factor, New Mutants, and Uncanny Vol. 4 the next few months. Next, I hope the Dawn of X start coming out as HC.

JohnIV | 76 comments I've taken a dip into the world of the DC Absolutes. Usually I'm a Marvel Omnibus-er but I have many seminal DC works in Omnis and DC's 'Deluxe' format. Got the first one, Absolute Watchmen yesterday (my fourth dip after originally collecting the issues in the 80s).

Are they all typically 15" tall or do they vary much? (Devoting appropriate shelf space. :))

Btw I recommend the Kingdom Come Absolute.

I echo the congrats and the Kingdom Come Absolute recommendation. If I had to pick my favorite story in Absolute I think Kingdom Come is it.

Unpopular opinion (as a someone who doesn't know DC nearly as well as Marvel), I also really liked Identity Crisis. Both of these stories have moments with emotional heft that made me stop and stare at the page at the weight of what was transpiring.

Was hoping the Man Who Laughs would come out but I’m planning to get UA v3 and then Cruel Summer.

Those king size editions are really beautiful (I have the Galactus one) but they're soo unwieldy. Anyone collecting them all, seems even more niche-y than usual? :)

message 6409: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
I only have the Galactus and Marvels. Agreed they seem more of a novelty. I’d have to think really hard if there is a particular story I’d like to own in that size.

I only have the Steranko volume and agree it's unwieldy. At this point the only other one I might be tempted by would be Steranko's run on Captain America and I'd be a little hesitant in light of the size and the fact I already have his run in other formats.

Those king size are more about the art than story for me . . . Because they go on a coffee table.

Those three do make a nice set of three absolutes. I think the Dark Victory volume is a bit hard to come by at a reasonable price now.

message 6415: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Hey, did anyone see Epix has a show called Britannia starring David Morrisey that sounds very similar to the Valiant comic also called Britannia - but I can't find any evidence they are related? Anyone know if the show is any good and if Valiant is involved? Seems weird.

Right, only Haunted Knight is still in print and available easily, the others are a hundred plus on eBay. I've got the huge Loeb/Sale omni so not too concerned with missing the Absolutes in this case.

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
As an avid Absolute Enthusiast and owner of every Absolute . . . If an out of print is still under $150 I think it’s still a relative good price. I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I have to catch myself getting spoiled with IST pricing.

I received my Absolute Dark Knight today and the lettering on the spine is shifted up so high that part of the “A” in Absolute is cut off. Curious if anyone else has that, either on the original printing or this new one.

message 6419: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments Got my new printing copy today too. Part of the “A” cut off on mine, along with the “T”

Darth Bane | 261 comments Sorry y'all, but thats actually how it is supposed to look. My copy from a couple years back is the same way. It's supposed to be eye catching, or something.

message 6421: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Well it’s eye-catching for sure. And I believe it’s on the book spine as well as the slipcase spine. Oh well.

I can’t believe how quickly my DC shelves have filled up.

message 6422: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments I don’t mind it at all and like the look.

message 6423: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 146 comments That spine still looks cool but that’s definitely a weird design decision.

I’ve still never purchased an Absolute, but I’m thinking about picking up Alan Moore Swamp Thing next week since I’ve never read it. The thought of finding a bookshelf that fits them is giving me anxiety though 😂

message 6424: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Lol. They fit in standard 13” cube organizers but not much leeway.

message 6425: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Riley | 129 comments Batman Dark Victory i bough was new for $21.36 on Amazon.

message 6426: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 146 comments Blind, when I look at the dimensions of them on Amazon it says 15” for some of the Absolutes? If they fit in 13” without messing the book up that would be lovely, I plan on buying a big 13” cube organizer shelf soon for my rapidly growing Omni collection.

message 6427: by JohnIV (new)

JohnIV | 76 comments About 12.5" in the slipcases w/ mine so far.

message 6428: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 146 comments Good to know the Absolutes aren’t as gigantic as Amazon lists them, much more manageable.

I just preordered Absolute Swamp Thing volumes 1 and 2 and Incredible Hulk by Peter David vol 2 from Tales of Wonder this morning. My credit card is on fire.

Jeff wrote: "I've been getting a ton of delayed release emails from Amazon for DC preorders I've had in. Batwoman Omnibus, Starman Compendium, etc.. Anyone know what's causing these to delay?"

DC is switching from having the company Diamond distributing their books to having alternate methods of distribution (the company that runs Instocktrades may be taking on some of this). Many of these books are also being printed overseas which can lead to additional slow downs as the books go through the international shipping process with pandemic related slowdowns. I don't know how much the changes in DC's staff could be impacting books they already have contracts to print are having. All of these changes are disrupting the normal supply chain leading to release dates changing. I suspect we'll continue to see dates slip for at least the rest of the year.

I ordered Batman Gotham by Gaslight DLX, Joker Killer Smile DLX, Lady Mechanika OHC vol 4, and Blade of the Immortal DLX. I decided to put off World of Black Hammer.

The initial copies on IST of World of Black Hammer and Blade of the Immortal DLX vol 1 out of stock already. This does seem to happen with the larger Dark Horse hardcovers fairly frequently.

Well . . . Again, taking care of my clients and IST low stock on Dark Horse comics results in another sale on Amazon for Blade of the Immortal DLX and world of Black Hammer.

What happened to the War of Realms Omni?

message 6435: by JohnIV (new)

JohnIV | 76 comments Yeah no War of Realms Omni or Absolute Swamp Thing 1. :(

No info on release for War of the Realms or the reprint of Absolute Swamp Thing vol 1 yet. I'll post it once I have some. =) I do want to pick up War of the Realms omnibus as well.

Darth Bane | 261 comments According to NMC both volumes of absolute swamp thing are coming out October 28th. I think ISTs release calendar is a little outdated.

message 6438: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments Based on CGN, Previews World, Target & Amazon listings, I believe War of the Realms is coming out next week on the 13th, possibly the 20th, unless there’s some delay we’re not privy to.

I swore off Millar awhile ago, but I did pick up a free digital copy of the first volume although I haven't read it yet. It's one of the few indie titles he has that seemed to expand and I believe they are still making a Netflix show about it.

Same. I’m excited to give it a read, looks like a fun story based on some panels I saw online and people commenting about it on social media while it was happening. I think I asked on here and 1 or 2 responses said it was ok. I just really want to see Spider-Man in a helmet.
