Brilliant! I hadn't even really had time to think about all those 200 tasks. It was a little daunting to look at and I figured well I bet so many I'd find something to match a book to.lol

A lot of them are super easy, so I'm fairly certain whatever we read we can match to something.

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments I suspect this weekend I will add the book recs to the SS to make it more one stop. I am not a fan of going back and forth in the GR thread.

I keep my own onenote doc with links to things to help since as much as GR wants to be social they really aren't user friendly.

But likely it will be Sunday FYI, as I am starting my stint where I work my full time day job and work nights as well until Friday and I work both my side jobs on Saturday. So Sunday will be the only day left for much GR play time.

I will still be checking in and such, just not spending oodles of time doing updates to all my zillion challenges.

message 206: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12862 comments Yeah, having the recs at the start is more so it's easier for other teams to come looking for them, and it nicely displays covers and such. Having an extra list in the SS can be handy though. :)

Yup I can see that. I tend to think redoing rooms in my house is a stress reliever but then I see all that comes out and I want to pull my hair out and regret it. LOL I think I'll go back to coloring or maybe listening to music while reading. 😉

Yeah, I like redecorating too... Once things get back to the new definition of normal and we return home (currently at my stepdad's slice of heaven - a small farm, with lots of space for the minion to run) we're going to change some stuff too.

Fabulous idea. I would love to join you for this if that is okay?

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Sonia I was lucky to have all the stuff to paint before the craziness but hubby was supposed to do all this when it was cooler out. Not when it’s near 80 degrees. LOL So except the carpet which we ordered and come in very, we did it quickly. It’s crazy how much stuff you find. Ugh I’d really hate to move. I don’t even want to imagine it. 😳

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12862 comments I've added some more recs to the list, but Gr keeps throwing "search is temporarily unavailable" messages at me, so I'll catch up on the rest tomorrow :)

And I now have the dilemma of having finished my current audio and my current print, but not sure what to read next. Every time I pick one up I think "but maybe I'll need it for a task/spell out during wheel!"

*sigh* first world problems...

I was having a similar "first world" problem.
What I am endeavoring to do is, read short ones, ones with letters I have many options for and checking the cover to make sure it has nothing too special on it, or other task items.

I'm gonna read through one that I'd started and mostly abandoned for this evening and will probably do something similar to you tomorrow. :)

And I'm going to give my ears a rest, because I have a few mammoth audios planned for the first round, so a couple of quiet days may be a good plan! lol.

Michelle they just need to be tagged in the first page which is the "Top Shelf" not MPG.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12862 comments I actually checked this with the mods, but forgot to post here when the thread was opened. It doesn't have to be on the first page this time. I got this back from Cat:

as long as there is at least one tag that is not you or a team member playing "silly buggers get one over the mods" that's fine :)

It certainly opens things up a little!

Hi everyone!

I've ventured out from Middle Earth to invite you all round whenever you would like. It's never more than 5 minutes from a meal (speaking of which is it time for lunch yet...).

We've got a lovely selection of recommendations here to tempt you all and would love it if you stick around to tell us what you thought.

message 233: by Alison (Lady Coffin) (last edited Jun 10, 2020 04:44AM) (new)

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments Question on the recommendations, specifically having just looked at the above linked list from the Hobbits of Middle Earth. They have Fool Moon by Jim Butcher it is the 2nd book in the Harry Dresden series.
Because of the new release I have been re-reading the series, again, up next for me is Proven Guilty the 8th book in the series.
Can I use that as a "recommendation from another team"?

Basically, can we read another book from a recomended series? Or does it need to be the specific book in the series that was mentioned?

message 234: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
From memory a lot of our team had their recommendations as the whole series so feel free to read the next one for you!

message 235: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
If you have a rec with that question, might be worth asking the team that recommended it.

message 236: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12862 comments Thanks for the recs team Hobbit!

Yes, I think asking the team in question is probably the best way to go. A lot of people (me included) simply put the first in a series to represent them all, in which case, I would say it should count, but some may only want to recommend certain books, in which case only those would count. (I suspect Cat has/will likely recommend a Pratchett or two, but I also happen to know she'd NOT be amused if someone took that to mean the early Rincewind books! lol)

So yeah, I'd say check with the team that recced it :)

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 949 comments Ok, thanks gals.
I just was not sure if there was a standard rule with that or not.
I am fairly sure I saw the Harry Dresden series in other lists. So will double check with some of the ones that actually had the 1st book listed.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Hey teamies! I've got some books in mind to recommend but want to make sure they match some of the stuff we need. I'll get those up some. I see some cozy mystery up. I enjoyed a few especially the Mattie Winston series. I only got through the first 3 books so far but a fun start. 😁
Working Stiff (Mattie Winston Mysteries, #1) by Annelise Ryan Scared Stiff (Mattie Winston Mysteries, #2) by Annelise Ryan Frozen Stiff (Mattie Winston Mysteries, #3) by Annelise Ryan

Mandiann sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I found it ☺

How to Locate a Specific Book on a Shelf (or to check if it's there):

There's a quicker way to look up if a you want to know if a book you want to read it 'tagged' on a certain shelf. Here's a quickie pic, though.

Using Claimed by Elle Kennedy for the example, found here on Dystopian Romance.

Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments Hello everyone, Christina from Gulliver's Travels here :)
I just went through your recommended books post and I love what a great and diverse collection it is! Some of the books mentioned are already on my tbr list so I hope I'll get to them while wheel'ing!
I'm surprised nobody has actually mentioned the HP series though (or I could be blind, that's also a possibility lmao).

Oh and just one more thing, Big Little Lies is in the wrong section, it's a mystery if I'm not mistaken but has found its way to urban fantasy here (;

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Hi Christina. You’re correct. I’ve read that book as well and it is a mystery. I didn’t look at all the books yet but you’re right.

message 242: by Sammy (new)

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Hahaha no worries. I didn’t even look but when I get home I’ll take a look. Trying to see stuff on the app is a no go

message 244: by Mandiann (new)

Mandiann (goodreadscommandiann) | 495 comments the big problem with some books is they could fit in more than one category.

message 246: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12862 comments Yeah, it's more of a rough guide, and people can investigate closer at their leisure. I may not have much to do during lockdown, but building a comprehensive cross-referenced rec system just for laughs is probably too much of a good thing even for me, lol.

message 247: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12862 comments All recs are added. I hit the character limit on the post, so I had to bunch some together and then spill over into the next post, but everything should be there somewhere...
