Groovy Lee I couldn't find the Wacky Holiday thread so I'm posting it here:

It's French Fry Day!

Did anybody know that? My favorites are Crinkle Fries and the ones from Checkers which you can buy in the store now. McDonald's is giving out free fries today.

Kristie | 5928 comments I did not know it is French fry day! I love French fries, but am not supposed to eat them (carbs=sugars). Maybe I should 'cheat' to celebrate. lol

Holiday thread is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Sounds like a great summer job, Princess. I'd love a job where I got paid to read, especially to read books of my choice. I hope you enjoy it and don't get too bored.

My daughter is coming for a weekend visit today! Can't wait to see her. :) G's birthday is this weekend. He is going to be a teenager! (gasp!)

Groovy Lee Kristie, I hope you and your daughter have lots of fun together. Is G your grandson? You mean he's becoming a teenager? Where does the time go? I know I don't need to tell you, but enjoy your time with him while you can. College is just around the corner!

Christine, that's okay. The booster will still be there waiting for you.

message 1260: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Yes, Groovy! I can't believe he's going to be a teenager already. I'm glad that he still enjoys coming down to spend the summers. I feel like every year is just a bonus now. My daughter is here to celebrate his birthday.

I hope you have better luck than me and my husband did. We both got sick and our arms seemed to hurt more. In all the previous shots we only had a little pain in the arm.

message 1263: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 1597 comments I can’t get my second booster shot and the reason why I can’t get my second booster shot is because you have to be over 50 and you have to have an immune deficiency Tammy and thanks Tammy and oh that stinks Tammy and oh that stinks Tammy and oh ok Tammy

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Hey everyone!!! Sorry I've been MIA : ( The month of July has been absolutely hectic!!!

I had 1,2 or all 4 grandkids 26/31 days in July. The first weekend of July I kept my grandsons so my son and DIL could go on a weekend trip. The next week, I had the grandsons for 13 days because son and DIL went on vacation. The day I picked them up the youngest gs was sick and it only lasted 2 days. Then the oldest gs got sick and I ended up taking him to Dr--swimmer's ear. When they went home, 4 days later he ended up in the ER--mastoiditis-- and then admitted to the hospital for 3 days. The two granddaughters had Covid at the same time. So I ended up with the youngest grandson again for 10 days because when oldest grandson got out of the hospital my son and DIL caught Covid. During that 10 day stretch, I was house/dog sitting for my DIL's sister. After I finally got all KIDS home, and thought I was going to rest, relax, and enjoy my freedom again, I caught Covid. I'm feeling better, just have a serious case of the BLAHs and not really feeling myself. I kept the youngest gs today because the oldest gs had tubes put in his ears. Everyone, I hope, is finally on the mend.

That last 10 day stretch(last week of July) I didn't get hardly any reading done. I have a large stack of unfinished books that I am working my way through. I started them but either lost interest or didn't have time to finish them. I'm making progress and quickly getting them finished. Most of them I had read 50% or more before I laid them aside. LOL Those accomplishments are helping to improve my spirits. I'm tired of looking at them and ready for some FRESH NEW books.

I hope everyone is doing well. Hopefully I'm back to my normal routine : )

Kristie | 5928 comments Oh my goodness, Robin! That was a wild month! Glad to see that everyone is hopefully on the mend now. My gs has been with us for a little over 6 weeks now and I will be bringing him home in a little over a week. I can't believe it's almost time for him to go home. The summer went so fast! He's already talking about next summer though, so I'm excited that he's looking forward to his next visit.

message 1266: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee It's so good to see that you made it through, Robin. I'm glad to know everyone is mending. I've had Covid, so I know what you're going through. Just lie around, be lazy, drink lots of water, and ride that wave. And it's good to spend lots and lots of time with your grandkids no matter what you're going through together.

Kristie, I'm glad you had a fun summer with your grandson. To me, summer goes by fast, and winter is slow, slow, slow.

I don't have any grandkids, but I did have the best grandmother in the whole world. I don't know where I'd be without her. And I miss her every day.

Kristie | 5928 comments Thanks, Groovy. I feel the same way. This summer seemed particularly fast for some reason.

Welcome back, Christine!

message 1269: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 1597 comments Thanks Kristie and the reason why I wasn’t on goodreads was because I had a hard time getting on there Kristie

message 1276: by Nishita (new)

Nishita (to_beread) | 63 comments i have my exams going on which won't end till the end of September and cuz of that I'm in a slump. i haven't finished reading even a single book this month (╥﹏╥)

message 1277: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Ooooh, sandwiches are my favorites! I love them all, Chicken, Hamburgers, especially Subs and Hobos. The sloppier the better.

But speaking of Subs...We used to frequent Subway almost every week. Well that's a thing of the past now. The last time we went, what used to cost $12 for 2 sandwiches, now cost $22!!!! I couldn't believe it. Now my daughter and I make our own. Ridiculous!

message 1278: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Yes, I think Subway is pretty expensive for what it is. My favorite sandwich is probably a chicken parm sub, but it depends on my mood.

message 1279: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments We made open faced roast beef sandwiches at home. Just bought some roast beef and swiss at the deli, made some au jus on the side. It turned out really yummy and definitely a lot cheaper than buying Subway.

sonya marie madden | 259 comments I only eat subway as a treat every few months.

Rebecca (becandthebooks) | 56 comments Is anyone else having troubles accessing the groups BOTM threads? It opens on my phone but then it flashes with a “trouble downloading” and shuts down the app. Been happening for 2 days now. I’ve restarted my phone and updated app….. just wondering if it’s a glitch that’s not just happening for me. Thanks in advance

message 1282: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I am on the app and am able to open the group BOTM threads without any issues. I’ve had that problem occasionally in the past with the app crashing. Do you need to update maybe?

message 1283: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Never mind. I just saw that you already updated. I’m on the app, so can’t see other comments when replying or edit my past comment. It definitely has its limitations.

message 1284: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Sonya, that's what we've decided to do from now on.

JoJo, that sounds delicious. What kind of bread did you use? We might try this sandwich.

message 1285: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 1597 comments I love eating hoagies

message 1286: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Those sandwiches go by different names, Christine--Hoagies, Subs, and Hobos, I love them no matter what they're called:)

message 1287: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 1597 comments I didn’t know that Groovy and thanks for sharing that information with me Groovy and I agree with you Groovy

Groovy Lee Good news, Taco Bell Lovers. The Mexican Pizza is back on the menu permanently starting Sept. 15.

My daughter is a Mexican Pizza addict. She was so hurt when they took it off the menu. We tried to duplicate it, and it was good. But like the saying goes, "Ain't nothing like the real thing."

message 1290: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I just had to look it up because I've never had Mexican pizza! It sounds delicious.

message 1291: by Karin (new)

Karin I've been travelling for a couple of things, but

Get a load of this Little Library! It's in Pittsburgh, so at least one person here has probably seen it before. I spotted it walking down the street during my time helping my son move into his apartment so he can take his Master's degree. It's a glass mosaic that was made by the art works place you can see behind it.

message 1292: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee That's a nice little Library. And the mosaic art is lovely. I would be tempted to run my hands over it--LOL!

Groovy Lee No! That means summer is on its last legs! But I'll say it for you, Christine:

HAPPY SEPTEMBER EVERYONE!

message 1298: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Judging by all these heat domes, I'm reading for "summer" to leave. Just hope we don't go straight to winter. (We seemed to go straight from winter to summer as I recall.)

message 1299: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I enjoy fall, but feel like summer went much too quickly this year. I am not looking forward to winter sneaking in here soon, unless it passes just as quickly so I can enjoy the other three seasons again. lol

Happy September, Christine!

message 1300: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I've been here a long time, and I still do not like winter. I wish it would pass as quickly as summer does.
