Amanda | 1 comments New to this app and this group! I just finished The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah and absolutely loved it! This is the second book in our book club that my friends and I have started, the first book being The Last Dress in Paris. I have to pick our next book, and I immediately began looking at Kristen’s other books, bc I’m obsessed now, HOWEVER… since the Nightingale was so intense and sad, I wanted to pick something more light, happy and even humorous at times BUT just as good if that’s possible? I have The Giver of Stars here to read, but not sure if it’s what I’m looking for or not (I’ve not read it yet) any suggestions wld be greatly appreciated!!! I was looking at Elenor Oliphant - Is Completely Fine too- but just wanted some intake here! Thanks!

Braden Books (thebraden) | 1 comments So I've been in a fantasy mood a little lately (cause the world is nuts). Which SJM series is "better" Throne of Glass or ACOTAR? I know both are ridiculous, but I could use the escape. Or are both a waste of my time and I should be looking into another series? Been reading a lot of contemporary fiction, etc so I would love your opinions!

Dorothy (vilette) | 115 comments I have a question and I don't know where to ask it so I am trying here. Goodreads lists a number of quotes that they say I have logged on the site. I have not logged any. What is going on?

message 1419: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments They link to your page when you "like" them. So, maybe you saw them somewhere and clicked "like?" Maybe if a friend liked them? I know I once clicked like because I liked that a friend liked the quote and it was added to my quotes. I think you can delete them if you don't like them.

message 1420: by Dorothy (new)

Dorothy (vilette) | 115 comments Thanks....that explains it.

message 1421: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Haven't been here in a while. Just got over the flu. And still recovering from a very early-set allergy season where all I do is cough and blow into tissues. It's good to see everyone doing fine.

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY WEEKEND!

message 1422: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Hi Groovy! Missed you! Doing well here, but feeling my allergies too.

message 1429: by Leona (new)

Leona (mnleona) | 179 comments I slept until 7:30 this morning and reminded myself, it still felt like 6:30 AM. It is rare I sleep until 7 or 7:30.

message 1430: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Thank you, Christine.

Wow, Leona. You must go to bed really early. I'm a night owl. So it's rare for me to be up by 7 or 7:30--very rare. I'm having the house recarpeted this spring, and I have to be up by 8 so they can get to work. I do not look forward to that at all--LOL!

message 1435: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Yes!! For us, at least. lol We're supposed to have a few really nice days here this week so I'm happy with that.

message 1436: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee YaaaY! It's almost time to get out of those bulky sweaters and shoes, to sit outside at night and enjoy the evenings, plant flowers and vegetables, and whatever other fun things there is to be done.

It's also International Day of Happiness. We're supposed to be more positive about ourselves and life. I'm sure going to give it a try:) How is everyone else doing with that?

My berry plants and flowers are blooming. :) Pretty happy about that. I need to go clean up the flowers a bit and make sure they are ready for spring.

I'll give it a try... I generally try to live my life like that. I think I have a lot to be grateful for. However, I'm feeling a bit sleepy today and I need to go deal with a likely cranky person, so we'll see how it goes. lol I wonder if my positivity will cheer her up or make her more cranky? Hmmm...

Are you happy about the potential move? If so, I hope you get the new housing.

message 1442: by Leona (new)

Leona (mnleona) | 179 comments International Day of Happiness. I have never heard of it and I really like the idea.

I am usually asleep by 10 or 11 PM and sleep about 5 or 6 hours. Today I am up at 5 AM which is not unusual. I also wake up during the night and stay awake for an hour or so.
My daughter can sleep like some of you and I think that is great. Those are good sleeping habits.

18* F now and snow expected again today. It was reported that Minneapolis/St. Paul has set a record of 5 straight months of snow of double-digit snowfall. I live an hour north and have had more snow than that.
They are getting worried about spring flooding.
Enjoy the flowers.

How is everyone doing on their challenges?
I am ahead of my 50 books to read in 2023 challenge.

Have a good day.

message 1443: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Update - Cranky person was actually in a good mood last night, so it worked out well. :)

Leona - I am a terrible sleeper too. I always wish I was a good sleeper. It really affects everything else.

It is 50ºF and sunny right now. It is supposed to get up to 62ºF today, but get cloudy. Still, it is starting to get warmer, which I love.

I am doing really well with my challenge so far. I've read 25 out of my goal of 75. So, I'm ahead right now. I'm feeling a little slumpy though, so it might slow down.

message 1444: by Annie (new)

Annie | 12 comments I often don't sleep well, either, and it's harder when that happens!

message 1445: by Groovy (last edited Mar 21, 2023 11:19AM) (new)

Groovy Lee It is still too cold here to start anything outdoors--but soon.

Kristie, I'm glad the cranky person was in a good mood for you:)

Sonya, I hope you get the new housing too.

I don't sleep very well either. I sleep for about an hour and a half then I wake up, turn over and fall back to sleep. This is the pattern the entire night. And this causes me to have to take an hour nap every day. I wish I could find a non-addictive formula to take where I would sleep through an entire night. I would try the OTC sleep aids, but they say even that should be taken with caution.

Leona (mnleona) | 179 comments I was looking at pictures from March 2022 and I had a deck off my kitchen. Today I have about 3' of snow and it is snowing again. I am sure I will see the deck this summer.

message 1449: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 1597 comments I’m ready for warm weather

message 1450: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Just a few more weeks and the 3' of snow will be gone and warm weather will be here--Yes!
