Groovy Lee I think you're the rare one, Saha:) You're right though, when you look at it, it's just one little hour.

Robin, I was born in Franklin and lived there until I was about 10. Then we moved here to Nashville. And I can tell by looking at the letters and numbers on those plates how they seem to pop out at you. Big Brother at work:)

I used to get sick when Spring time came around, too. I literally could not breathe, and I would go through boxes of tissue in one week's time. I learned from a doctor that you have to build up your immunity by taking allergy pills just before Spring and before your symptoms start.

I start taking them in March, and I use Walmart's generic Walzaden (I think that's how you spell it) it's equivalent to Zyrtec and Claritin. I take the pills the entire spring season and I haven't been sick since. Of course, your allergy might be different. I hope you find something that works for you, though.

message 1103: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments I never had allergies until I moved to the South and now every Spring I get allergies and have to take the meds. Also, Summer time is so humid out here. So Spring and Summer are not my favorite, I like Fall and Winter the best now...

message 1104: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee JoJo, I've always heard that. I can't believe that doesn't happen up North. I live in Nashville and there's a little humidity. I think the worst state when it comes to humidity is Florida. Whew! You're constantly sweating and can barely breathe.

message 1105: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I know several people who like DST, but I'm not one of them lol. I like for it to get dark earlier, 6 or 7 pm vs 9-10 pm.

Yes, the South is terrible for people that suffer with allergies. When I go visit my aunt up North or go out West my allergies aren't near as bad as they are here at home.

I take prescription and over the counter meds all year long : ( Spring just makes it all worse lol . Yes, Groovy, I take the generic of Zyrtec and Allegra. I alternate them every couple of months or so which my pharmacist recommended.

Since spring is here, do any of you have any great plans for spring?

message 1106: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I'm in Virginia and it is much more humid here in the summer than it is further north. My allergies are also much worse down here than they ever were before moving south. I feel like there is always something better and something worse about the weather everywhere you go though.

message 1107: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee My spring plans are: Spring cleaning an entire house and planting new gardens. Also waiting for the tennis season to start. I don't travel anymore. But that's okay with me. Being home is fun:)

message 1108: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I put my berries plants out already and they were sprouting and now I need to tuck them away again for a couple of days because it is going to be too cold here for them overnight. I can't wait until I don't need to worry about that anymore for a while.

message 1109: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I hear you, Kristie. That's why I don't even think about planting until the end of May. Even when I order plants, they don't ship out to me until then. Here, the cold and frost hangs around all through April.

message 1110: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I need to do some spring cleaning. Our spare room is set up as a play room for the grandkids. Because they aren't here very often, everyone in the house is using it as a storage room. NO NO NO, lol. I like for the room to be clean and ready for whenever they do come. Sometimes they are here frequently, other times not.

I love gardening but don't do much of it any more. I thought about maybe setting out a couple tomato plants and maybe a couple other things. Nothing extravagant.

Yes, the cold and frost hangs around here for a long time. The pools usually open around Memorial Day, but sometimes it's even too cool for them to open then. I hope your berries are ok Kristie.

Not a whole lot going on around my homestead. I've just been doing every day clean up and chores. Tomorrow, I have to take my mother to the Dr so that will probably end up being an all day affair. Other than that, I have been getting some reading done and other fun stuff.

lol, we have a bedroom here for our grandson and my hubby does the same thing.

I think I'm going to skip my garden this year, except the berries. The berries are potted. We trimmed them back in the fall and kept them in the garage all winter. They started to sprout new growth, so we moved them back to the porch, then we got the cold weather and had to put them back into the garage. I'm sure they'll be fine. I'm just ready for them to be out. :)

I tried to grow strawberries in a container one time and they were doing well, but I think the little lizards we get on our patio thought the strawberries were for them because every time they would get a decent size we would notice big bites taken out of them.

message 1117: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Oh, that's the worst, Jojo! Gardening takes too much effort to have little bites taken out of your harvest. I have blueberry, blackberry, and raspberry bushes (one each). I just got them last year and they take a couple of years to bear fruit, so nothing from them yet.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Clears throat Hello, everybody!!! It's Grover here. Ooops sorry, I'm not on Sesame Street anymore LOL

Sorry I missed you guys today/evening. My youngest son(Josh) and his family invited me, oldest son(Jason) and his girlfriend out to dinner tonight. We just got home about 20 mins ago. I'm already in my PJs, getting ready to turn the audiobook on, and relax. We did have a nice time, especially with the grandkids. I sat with the oldest grandson(4) and oldest granddaughter(13) We had one whole end of the table to ourselves. She and i talked books because she's an avid reader as well.

I hope you all had a great April 1st/Fool's Day. I didn't play any tricks just wasn't feeling it.

message 1123: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I'm not one to celebrate April Fool's Day, so no tricks for me either, Robin.

Sounds like a lovely time with your family and nice bonding chat with your granddaughter. Love that.

I'm driving up to NH to help my mom for a while. She is having a knee replacement done. While I'm there I will get to see a bunch of my family and friends. I can't wait to see everyone. 🖤

Groovy Lee Nothing like family and grandkids. I'm glad you had a good time, Robin.

Kristie, have fun with your family. And I wish your mom well.

message 1126: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Thanks, Groovy. Mom's surgery is tomorrow, so I will be spending the day at the hospital with her or waiting for her.

I have been having a nice visit so far. I was able to see an old friend of mine and both of my daughters and my grandson today. I went out with my mom and an aunt and 3 of my cousins yesterday. It's always nice to be back and see everyone. I can't wait until mom is recovered from this though.

Lots and lots of hugs and well wishes to you and your mom. Will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Glad you are having nice visits with everyone. It is always nice to go and visit, but it's nice to get back home too! Try to enjoy your time and hopefully recovery time won't be to lengthy.

Thanks!!! My oldest grandson wanted to come home with me but the parents told him no. SIGH That always breaks my heart : ( especially when there's really not a valid reason why, besides they had Easter pictures this afternoon, which I could've had him back in time for. Oh well, such is life.

Glad you have a nice day and best wishes to your Mum. Mine has had both knees done. It was a bit painful and required serious physio but made such a great improvement to her mobility.

I was going to sign up for Amazon's children book box each month as a gift but I noticed that audiobooks were limited to one free one.

message 1143: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments I use Libby and Hoopla that are connected to my library account. They do have children's books available on the apps as well. I listen to audio books with my children too.

message 1144: by M.C. (new)

M.C. Harrison Thank you. I'll look into it. I thought it would be a great way for children to learn to read by following along with the audio.

message 1145: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Oh yeah!!! I agree with JoJo. My library has lots of audiobooks for children through Overdrive/Libby and Hoopla : ) I've checked out some children's ebooks through Overdrive for my grandchildren that have the read along audio included with them.
