Charlotte worked and worked at it, her breathing heavy as she started to grow tired. And then it was over, and a glistening egg lay in the nest. Jay smiled softly. "It's called money darling. With it these people can have whatever they wish for." He explained, finishing the rest of his egg.
Stefan held her gently against him cradling her tired body and smiling down at her "well done my love...look at our beautiful egg..." He was speaking softly not wanting to stir up the energy that much. He blinked thinking about something "could I warm the egg?"Drina worked on her bacon and thought about that concept "anything?...how do people get money? How do they not use it all on everything?..." It was completely obscure to her, it was if she lived an entirely new life.
Charlotte smiled, closing her eyes and holding onto him. "Yes. It is gorgeous." She agreed, brushing her tail gently against it. "Yes. We can both warm it."Jay smiled a little. "They work for it, or get it from their parents. " he explained. "People usually are pretry good at not spending it all at once." He smiled. "But not always."
Stefan created a globe of heat and surrounded the egg with it slowly, he smiled feeling like a proud father. He watched Char "rest darling I can take care if it right now..."Drina nodded in interest "do you have any? I mean I don't care..." She sighed "this is far too confusing...I'll mess something up for sure!" She finished the food and sat up "I want to get dressed..."
Charlotte nodded, not able to argue about that. "Thank you." She said, kissing his cheek. She slowly swam back inside the cave and sank down on the bed, falling asleep almost immediately. Jay smiled a little, amused by her interest. "I do. Or did. I don't know if I can get any of it back when we get to America, seeing that I'm a refugee now." He shrugged, sighing softly. Then he nodded at her request and got up, looking through the dresses in the closet. "Any of these look nice?" He asked.
Stefan smiled and watched the egg "I love you...I'm going to teach you how to be on land for a little while and your mama is going to teach you everything in the sea...how does that sound?"Drina shrugged looking at the different silks and colors "you choose your favorite..." She smiled up at him "I can earn some money...when we get to America, I can sew and cook that's useful right?" She pulled her hair up and used some pins to keep it from falling out.
The egg did not respond of course, just sat there sort of quiet like as the child inside grew and formed into the person it would be when it hatched. Jay smiled, grabbing a dress that was a mixture of deep woody browns and greens. "I like this one." he said. "Suits you better than the pastel colors. Less frilly too." He said, handing it to her. "Sewing and cooking will be very useful in helping get you a job." He agreed.
Drina smiled and touched the beautiful fabric "it's like the woods that I lived in...beautiful..." She slipped it on and turned so he could tighten the corset and lace it up. "I want to work...I don't just want to have to wait at home..."
Jay smiled, tightening the corset a little, but not so much it would hurt her, and then laced up the back, turning her gently by her shoulders. "You look beautiful. And you will be amazing in America."
Drina smiled and hugged him close "will we have a house?...and maybe a family?..." She whispered and leaned her forehead against his. "Teach me more English words?"
Jay looked down at the girl in his arms. Oh how far they had come. "We can get a house. Maybe live at my place. Its in the country." He offered. Then he smiled lightly. "Im up for a family if you want one."
Drina nodded and smiled "I'd love one...how did we become like this? We hated each other and now I can't imagine a moment without you...am I pathetic?" She whispered and caressed his face.
Stefan woke up the next day and blinked there was a tiny crack in the shell and he frowned "Charlotte?...the egg...it has a crack I didn't touch it I swear!"
((so sorry! Thought I replied :/))Jay smiled and kissed her cheek. "Definitely not pathetic." He said seriously. "If you are, then I am as well. But I do believe opposites attract." He winked at her.
Charlotte woke up in a start and swam out quickly, inspecting the crack. Her worry washed away then and she smiled softly. "It's alright Stefan. It's just hatching." She promised, kissing his cheek.
((No problem!))Drina laughed and stood up pulling him up with her "let us explore the mansion...we can practice my English lessons with the maids...and they might have a piano!"
Stefan gasped "so soon?...oh goodness!" He watched amazed and watched the crack slowly enlarge and swished his tail anxiously.
Jay grinned, following along behind her. "Your wish is my command." he teased, bowing a little in her direction. "Sounds like fun. Lets go!" He jogged out the door and looked down the long hallway. Charlotte ran her fingers gently along the crack, smiling. "Come my little one. I know you can." She whispered, taking Stefan's hand.
Drina laughed and jumped on his back holding on like a piggy back, she looked around at everything in awe "it's beautiful...houses can look like this?"Stefan smiled "come on little shy one..."
Jay laughed, jogging down the hallway, stopping to look in each room. "Yes. Houses can look like this. If you like this one, I think you'll like mine." He said, chuckling. The egg cracked a little more, and a piece fell off. Now a small tail with tiny scales was visible. Charlotte smiled, squeezing his hand. "Almost there..." she whispered.
Drina hopped down and looked over at a library, her eyes were wide as she gasped "look at all the books..." They were beautifully leather crafted and seemed like they were endless!Stefan smiled and looked at the magenta tail scales, he helped move off a hanging piece of shard and smiled "hello little one..."
Jay smiled softly, watching her wonder. It was heartwarming really, that childlike awe. "You like to read?" He asked, leaning one shoulder against the doorframe.A small head full of sandy blonde hair poked out from the remains of the shell. The boy was small and had huge frightened blue eyes. He scooted back in the egg a little and hid so only his eyes were peaking over the edge.
Drina looked back at him "I don't...know how." She reminded, she ran her fingers through the yellowed pages "I think they are beautiful though...would you teach me?" She asked eagerly her eyes bright and hopeful.Stefan smiled amazed and brushed the hair with his finger tenderly "hey buddy...welcome to the world..."
Jay smiled, looking at the book she held. "Of course." He promised. "That there is a good book. Lots of adventure and romance." he commented, his eyes running over a couple sentences. Charlotte smiled softly at Stefan. "He needs a name..." She reminded.
The small boy moved slowly out of his egg, his fin flipping cautiously as he took in the two people in front of him.
Drina curled up in the chair and leaned in to look at the words. She traced the designs of the first main letter "what does the sentence say? Could you go word by word so I learn it?"Stefan smiled "what about Tide" he asked watching the shy merboy "hi...I'm your daddy is this is your mama..."
Jay smiled, holding the book, his arms around her. "Ok. Once upon a time..." he started, smiling down at her as he read, making sure to go slowly so she could follow. "Just stop me if I'm going to fast." He told her seriously. Charlotte nodded eagerly. "It's a gorgeous name." She agreed.
Tide swam towards them, looking up at them for a moment, before smiling brightly and hugging Stefan.
Drina stopped him "ok now explain it...and I'll practice saying it." She took his hand tracing each letter and trying to sound it out like he had.Stefan smiled and hugged his boy close, his boy. He had a son! He pecked his golden locks "are you hungry?..."
Jay explained to her what it meant, and then said it again for her slowly, trying to help her through pronouncing it. "Now you try." he encouraged. Tide smiled and nodded eagerly, trying to portray what he meant. He wasn't exactly sure how to talk yet, but he was hungry!
Drina followed what he said focusing on keeping the sounds short as he had. She frowned lightly "when they say once upon a time...does that mean they don't know when?"Stefan smiled and handed him to Charlotte as he cracked open a crab and fed him the delicious meat inside "slowly..."
Jay smiled a little. "To be honest, I'm not quite sure. I think it means they just don't want to say what exact time it was." he explained. "So maybe they don't know, or maybe they just don't want to say." He shrugged. "What do you think?"Tide grinned, gobbling down the meat he was handed. He clapped his hands and held them out for more.
Drina thought about it "it sounds pretty...much better then this story happened at this time right?" She leaned on his shoulder "keep reading?"Stefan chuckled and cracked him another crab leg "hungry aren't you?..."
Jay nodded. "Something like that." He leaned his head on hers and smiled softly. "Sure..." he agreed, continuing to read softly to her, saying the words slow as always.Charlotte smiled softly, holding their little boy as he ate. "They always are." She said, smiling.
Tide finished that bit of meat and then yawned, his eyes fluttering closed.
Drina smiled and listened to him, he made the words come to life and she kissed him "I think that you are the true Prince Charming."Stefan smiled and tucked him into a little shell crib and tucked him in "look at our boy..."
Jay smiled, flushing a little. "I highly doubt that. But thank you." He said softly, kissing her shoulder before continuing to read. Charlotte smiled softly, her face lit with joy and pride. "He's beautiful. We made a beautiful kid." She said, taking his hand.
Drina loved this time with him, it was a connecting moment. While he was reading she imagined the scenes beautifully and felt almost sad when it was over. "What does happily ever after mean?"Stefan kissed her hand and nodded feeling proud "very sweet child...little shy but that's ok."
Jay smiled a little, closing the book. "It means that they lived happily together, for the rest of time." He explained, smiling down at her. He loved the wonder he saw in her eyes, it was a sort of innocence you didn't find much anymore. Charlotte smiled, leaning her head on his shoulder. "He's young. I'm sure he'll get used to the world in time." She promised.
Drina leaned her head on her hand and smiled lovingly at him, that's what she wanted with him. "What else can I learn?.." She grabbed a quill and ran her fingers against the feathers.Stefan smiled and nodded "our curious little boy..." He stroke back the curls "it feels so soon...human dads at least have a chance to learn before the kid gets very responsive."
Jay smiled softly, taking the feather gently, and dipping it into the nearby inkwell. "You can learn to write." He offered, starting to write down 'once upon a time'Charlotte smiled a little. "Yes... I know. It does happen quite soon. That is mainly so the female merpeople do not have to carry around a heavy egg for too long and miss out on hunting."
Drina smiled looking at his scratch on the parchment, it was slanted to the left with quick caligraphy "beautiful..." She traced the letters and the ink smeared on her finger "sorry..." She looked at him biting her lip.Stefan nodded and kissed her neck "it's a beautiful culture...when will our little man begin to talk?" He rocked the shell watching his son sweetly chewing on his fingers.
Jay laughed softly and shook his head. "It's fine. Just try not to touch it before it's dried." he wrote it out again, and then handed the quill to her. "Can you copy it?"Charlotte flushed a little, happy that he was interested in her culture. "He'll pick up the words we teach him. He's fairly smart. It shouldn't take too long." She assured, smiling.
((leaving for an hour and a bit))
Drina took the quill and followed the letters, her writing was more loopy and feminine but she copied it almost exactly.Stefan smiled "teach me everything about mer people...I want to be a good father for Tide and he doesn't need to know how to be a human as of yet."
Jay's eyes widened a little. "You're amazing at that!" He said, shaking his head. "It's beautiful, your writing." he complimented. Charlotte smiled, more than happy to teach him. "Well... each merperson is different. More often than not, we have special little tips and tricks to ourselves that can only be discovered in time." she ran her fingers over her neck just below her ear. "Take this for example." She pressed the spot and two fins she had not had before spread from her sides, just above where her tail ended. "They help me swim faster."
Drina smiled and her cheeks flushed "I like to sketch...it's basically the same thing, I never used a quill before I always wanted to...I used a sharpened stick and mashed up berries to draw..."Stefan watched amazed and smiled "I suppose that I should be cautious when I do this..." He nibbled on her neck and earlobe. His hand running down her hourglass waist and tail.
Jay shook his head, still astounded by how beautiful she made her letters. "I am going to get you a paint set when we get to America. You could make millions off paintings." he said seriously.Charlotte closed her eyes and moaned softly, leaning her head back when he kissed her. "Yes... be careful." She agreed. "But I really don't mind discovering new things about myself."
Drina was shocked by such an offer and felt tears come to her eyes "you would do that for me?...Jay I..." She cupped his face and kissed him deeply.Stefan smiled but stopped just in case Tide woke up "so he won't need to breast feed or anything?"
Jay smiled softly, about to say 'of course I would' when she kissed him and he closed his eyes, bringing his hand up to the back of her neck. Charlotte opened her eyes again and shook her head. "No. Since they are lain and not born, they sort of skip the really really young phase." She explained.
Drina moved her hand to his back and curled her fingers around his shirt, she had never felt such passion and it was like she couldn't back out. She didn't want to, she loved the romance and knowing that someone loved her!Stefan nodded and smiled "anything else I should know about our little man?...I feel completely clueless..."
Jay smiled against her lips, his other hand wrapping around her waist. He let the kiss linger for a moment longer before he pulled away just far enough to look down in her eyes. "You're beautiful..."Charlotte smiled a little, kissing his cheek. "No, not anything pressing. We'll learn how to do this as we go, don't worry."
Drina smiled up at him and flushed "I love you so much..." She whispered and kissed him once more "I don't deserve you at all...and I am so sorry for the way I treated you..."Stefan shook his head "I just can't believe he's mine...ours, I can't believe that I live under the sea and have a tail...it's absolutely wonderful!"
Jay shook his head, taking her shoulders in his hands. "Why are you apologizing? It is I that am sorry. You never treated me poorly. It was under my command that you were beaten." He said seriously, his voice soft. Charlotte smiled, clasping her hands together. "I know right?" She asked, spinning in a circle. "It's absolutely wonderful." She kissed him gently. "But are you sure you're ok with giving up your old life Stefan? I feel really badly for taking you away from it..."
Drina shook her head and leaned into his chest "it was your guards, never you...you saved me, even cleaned my back...I was rude and hit you..." She sighed "but honestly I was just scared..."Stefan shook his head "we can go to land every now and then I'm not leaving anything remarkable..."
Drina started to eat the eggs and closed her eyes from the taste "they are seasoned...how do they have so much different food? How do they have any of this?..."
