McKensie and Lara II :)
Char didn't answer, she couldn't answer. When she had swam in, the place had looked normal... Inside was all neat like she had left it, pearls adorning almost everything, the sponge-shell bed, the coral chairs, and even a mirror. But what froze Charlotte in her place was the other figure in the room. She paled. "Jason..." She whispered. The half man, half water snake swam towards her. "Hi darling. Miss me? I just found out that you were back..." He coiled his tail around and around her tail and torso.
Char wiggled against his grip. "Let me go Jason." She pleaded, hoping Stefan would not hear. She didn't want to get him involved. "Leave me alone. Please."
Jay frowned in worry. He had no idea that this had been happening. No idea whatsoever of the treatment of these people. He pulled her against him gently, letting her cry. He stroked her hair slowly, trying to get her to calm. "Its alright. Its ok to cry."
Stefan frowned worriedly as he heard a struggle, he swam in and saw a mermaid like creature but far more...evil looking? Jason he presumed "let her go. Now!" He commanded not going to be intimidated that he was a mere imp.Drina shook her head crying "it was awful..I barely have any magical strength left!...I watched them slaughter my family because they refused...it was awful...I can't be stoic and independent about that!"
Jason looked up, not loosening his coils from around Charlotte. "Oh and who's this?" He asked. "A human Char? Have you resorted to such measures just to feel loved?"Charlotte struggled against him, but his tail was much too strong for her to break out of. "Leave him out of this Jason. He's not human."
"Oh pet. I don't want him obviously." He crooned, running the tip of his tail along her cheek as she struggled. He turned to Stefan. "Go boy. If you know what's good for you."
Jay held her tightly, "I'm sorry." He whispered, for that was all he could think of in response to that. "I am very sorry that happened to you. I will make sure no further harm comes to you if I can." he promised her gently.
Stefan growled not backing out, his fire was even more fueled. He created a globe of fire that wasn't affected by the water around them. He tossed it at him making sure not to hit Char. When he let go on instinct he grabbed her his eyes flashing red "I like toasted eel...it's a delicacy so I suggest you leave. Unless you want to become a main course!"Drina looked up at him and honestly felt that he would keep that promise. She pressed her lips lightly against his chin and sighed "I don't know what to say..." She whispered and started to peel an orange sniffing the aromic citrus and handing him a slice "don't get scurvy..."
Charlotte was trembling in Stefan's arms when Jason's tail suddenly unwrapped from around her. She huddled against Stefan, frightened, even though she had been trying to hide that. Jason looked at them both, glaring. He decided the fight wasn't worth it, this time. "This isn't the end of it Charlotte. You can't hide forever." he hissed, snaking through the water and out of the cave.
Jay didn't know why her light kiss had made his stomach flutter out of control, but it did, and he closed his eyes briefly. "Don't say anything. You don't have to." He said gently. He took the orange slice and ate it slowly, savoring the sweet fruit. "Thank you." He said.
Stefan growled wishing he could have barbecued that snake, he held Char close she was shaking with fear "shh I've got you..." He whispered and laid with her on the sponge bed. Them being so close and so vulnerable it was hard to keep his thoughts from wandering.Drina nodded chewing on her slice and looking out at the ocean, she wondered what America would be like. But a thought struck her hard "I cannot speak English!"
Charlotte nodded, tucking her trembling body close to him. "I'm sorry..." She stammered. "I didn't think I would see him again..." She whispered, closing her eyes. She sighed, feeling a little safer when she was so close to him. Jay frowned then. He knew that would be a problem.Especially if she was trying to fit in... "I could teach you." he offered. "Might be a good way to pass this long voyage anyways." He suggested.
Stefan tucked her into his arms and kissed her lovingly and pressed his forehead against hers "are you alright?...he didn't hurt you right?" He whispered and ran his hand down her arm.Drina smiled and nodded "I would love that, I'll need to speak to get a job yes? Will they hire foreigners?"
Charlotte nodded, feeling much safer in his arms. "No. He didnt hurt me. Not this time." She said softly. She enjoyed his kiss very much, and found her mind wandering because of it, wondering if they could be more than friends...Jay nodded. "Yes you most definitely will." He agreed. "They will hire foreigners, as long as you're well behaved and human." He said, shrugging. "I think you should be ok."
Stefan ran his leg against her tail and kissed her deeply but still lovingly and sweetly "how had he hurt you before?" He asked softly his eyes full of concern ready to listen.Drina bit at her lip nervously but nodded "I can be human...what word should I learn first?" She was excited to learn, excited for a new life but saddened that she had to abandon her heritage.
Charlotte's tail flipped a little in response, moving closer to him as they kissed. It was sweet, and caring, and helped Charlotte relax again completely. She sighed and leaned her forehead against his collar bone. "He wanted to start a family with me. Me being the only one within a days swim of him to carry on his family lines." She explained. "I refused, so he tried to force me into it. We're a dying race you see. And to the males, having children means leaving a legacy. He very nearly succeeded..." She bit her lip. "But I bit him, at the last second and he let go. He still has a scar from that, on his neck." She pulled herself closer to Stefan as she had caught a chill from the memories. "He's the reason I was caught by fishermen. He set me up because I refused him." She whispered. Jay smiled softly and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, like two friends having a conversation. "I suppose we should begin with a greeting." he said, nodding slowly. "That would be 'Hello' in English."
Stefan held her close hating the snake even more then he had before. He kissed her head smoothing her hair "you did the right thing...but I should have barbecued him when I had the chance...who knew that underwater it wound turn to hot steam?" He took her hand wondering if he should even ask but couldn't help himself "if I and you...were to, would you have to be human?"Drina leaned into his shoulder and frowned "hii...loo?" She tried to pronounce shakily but sighed giving up.
Charlotte smiled a little, nodding. "I'm glad you did what you did, even if you didn't get a chance to barbecue him. Not yet anyways." she said, smiling a little. Her smile turned slightly embarrassed at his question, making her very selfconsious about them being so close, and neither of them covered. She shook her head. "No. I wouldn't have to. I have similar anatomy now as when I am human. Minus the scales." She said softly. Jay smiled, nodding. "Yeah. Like that. But the 'e' and 'o' sounds are shorter." He instructed. "Like this. Helllo." he drew the word out and made it slower.
Stefan flushed and cleared his throat "apparently I'm the King of causing awkward situations..." He moved so that their bottoms weren't touching anymore. He looked around her cozy nook "how'd you manage to find so many pearls?"Drina nodded and focused and making it sound like he had "hello." She blinked and smiled "hello Jay."
Charlotte smiled, laughing lightly. "It's alright. I don't mind you being curious. I know from all the faces staring at me in that tank that humans are curious about my species." She said, shrugging. Then she smiled, taking his question as a compliment. "Its what I did, whenever I wasn't hunting. I would find pearls to bring here." She explained. "But the one around your neck took the longest to hunt down."Jay grinned nodded. "There you go. See? Not too hard..." He had warmed up to her, not even remembering how they had been when they first met anymore. Now they were just good friends. "Now lets learn how to say 'my name is'." He suggested.
Stefan smiled and fingered the beautiful pearl "it's beautiful, I've never felt so honored Char. I'm grateful that it works and I can see your world...and save you from that snake." He nuzzled her and ran his hand down her stomach.Drina nodded and smiled "that seems good, how would I say my name is Drina? Or should I change my name to more an American one?"
Charlotte smiled a little, pink rising in her cheeks. "And I am honored that you would wish to see it." She blushed a little more when he touched her stomach, but she didn't pull away. "And I can not express my thanks for you having saved me from Jason." She said honestly. Jay thought for a moment. "Well... I think your name is very beautiful. But if you want to change it, you can." he said, shrugging. "Hello, my name is Drina." He said in English. "That is how you say it." He reverted back to her language.
Stefan smiled and sighed "Charlotte I must be honest. I have feelings for you that I can't ignore, I must be a gentleman but I find you to be the most beautiful creature...and it's hard laying next to you and not thinking things..." He admitted quietly.Drina frowned in concentration "hello, miii na-mame iiii Drina."
Charlotte flushed even brighter, looking down shyly. His compliments warmed her to her very core. He likes me too! she thought, looking up slowly. "And you are the most wonderful two legged being I have ever met." She said softly, kissing his cheek. "And... and... I would..." She swallowed nervously. "I would love it if you could be my mate." She whispered, looking down again shyly. Jay smiled. "There you go. You've got a thick accent, which we can work on. But people will be able to understand that." He assured her, leaning back. "But I'm getting tired again, it's been a long day. Shall we rest?"
Stefan felt his heart flutter and he tipped her chin up to look at him and smiled softly "I would be honored...I love you Charlotte, I'd be the luckiest man on earth to lay with you..." He nuzzled her and kissed down her neck "you have to let me know...what you want...like you know I don't know much about you..."Drina sighed and nodded snuggling on his chest "sounds good...how did you learn my language?..." She asked realizing that he had to learn it like she was learning his.
Charlotte smiled softly, melting then and there. "Then I am yours Stefan, for I love you too." She closed her eyes as he kissed her neck and she smiled a little. "I know. Don't worry." She promised. She knew this may be a little tricky with him being so ignorant about merpeople. She gently guided his hand to the scales just below where her tail met skin. "here." She simply, so he would know when the time came. Jay laughed lightly. "It was a hard process, that's for sure. " He said, smiling a little. "We learned your language in military camp. It was one of the requirements." He explained.
Stefan smiled and ran his hand finding there was a soft indent and carefully stroke it "what if I hurt you...I'm not a merman after all..." He said worriedly and caressed her face leaning his forehead against hers. He felt a strong connection but with the different species it still was a bit hesitant.Drina smiled and played with his fingers "what made you want to join the military?...." She asked softly wanting to know more about him.
Charlotte shivered, her heart thudding. She pulled herself closer, kissing him passionately, before pulling away to look in his eyes. "Like I said, we aren't that different from you. You won't hurt me." She promised, kissing his cheek sweetly. The tip of her tail brushed against his lower leg and curled around. Jay played with her fingers back, intertwining and untwining them. He shrugged. "Wanted to serve my country I suppose." he said honestly. Then he sighed softly. "And because I was never much of a witch fan. A witch fugitive froze my family alive, killing them." he explained.
Stefan wrapped his legs around her tail and ran his hands down her waist and hips as he kissed her deeply he tangled his fingers in her hair and kissed down her jaw "Char...what if...we make a child?" He whispered still trying to understand her.Drina looked at him shocked and covered her mouth "oh my goodness...I cannot believe that! I'm so sorry Jay..." She was appalled that one of her people would do that, no one he hated her in the beginning.
Charlotte smiled, her eyes closed. She wrapped her arms around his neck, her tail flipping back and forth slowly, but not hard enough to move them anywhere. She tipped her head back, sighing softly. "It's not likely. Merpeople are not very fertile. But if we did, it would be an egg." She explained. "I am not capable of birthing live children."Jay smiled weakly and shook his head, looking down at their hands. "It's ok. It is in the past." He assured her, sighing.
((have to head to bed... sorry. Bye!))
Stefan held her close and smiled "whatever happens I'm not leaving you..." He promised and kissed her chest "you ready?...you lead honey..." He whispered and kissed her ear.Drina sighed and pecked his cheek "I understand now...but you know is never do that right?..."
Charlotte nodded, smiling a little nervously for a moment. Then she pressed herself against him, her tail flipping a little. "I love you." She whispered, and kissed him passionately. Jay sighed, leaning back against the boat wall. "Yeah. I know that now." He assured.
Stefan held her close after on his lap, her tail wrapped around him comfortingly, he kissed her softly and moved her hair back "I love you..." He said honestly. He never had experienced anything quite like it but it still felt right.Drina sighed and lay on the mattress watching him closely, he had so much pain he was trying to hide and she wished she could help him. "Come rest...I'm cold without you."
Charlotte was curled on his lap, eyes closed and a content smile on her features. She never dreamed she would fall in love with a legged, but she had, and she had fallen hard. "Love you too." She whispered, looking up at him. "We should surface soon. Dusk is drawing closer." Jay did not like sharing his thoughts and feelings with others. He was more than up to listening and helping others with their issues, but when it came time to sharing his, he was more than a little reluctant. He nodded, moving back onto the mattress and laying down beside her so they could both keep warm.
Stefan nodded and took her hand carefully leading her out of the cave, he felt his chest constrict and coughed the pearl would lose the power by dawn. He shook his head trying to stay concious, focus. He felt his body freezing slowly his birthmark disappearing.Drina took his hand again and watched him carefully, he wasn't opening up anytime soon but she wanted to know him, not the shell he wore. "Did you have any siblings?..."
Charlotte, stiffened, her face contorting in worry. "Stefan?" She asked, looking over his features. She only guessed at what was happening, and it caused her heart to skip a beat. "Hold on. Please." She whispered, wrapping her arms around his waist as she shot towards the surface. Jay looked at her, surprised that she was interested, but he humored her. "Yes. A sister." He said simply, sighing. "She was fourteen when it happened, too young to die."
Stefan started to lose his breath, the pearl was raising off of his chest collapsing his lungs. He saw black dots and when they breached the surface he was unconcious.Drina started to feels tears and quickly brushed them away "I'm sorry...my brother was that age as well..." She remembered freeing him from that tent and meeting Jay for the first time.
Charlotte's muscles were burning by the time they finally reached the surface, and she was out of breath, but she didn't stop swimming until she had dragged them both mostly out of the water, and then she collapsed beside him, panting. Jay shook his head, huffing as he looked into the distant shadows in the hull. "It's ok." He said softly, not wanting to talk about his family. "And I am sorry. About your brother."
Stefan was ice cold, his birthmark was gone and he was hardly breathing. The pearl wasn't shining anymore it was dull against his pale chest.Drina nodded "it's alright..." She whispered and curled up on his chest. She winced hearing angry yelling and banging on the trapdoor. She buried her face in his chest.
Charlotte flipped her tail, worried, and tried to prop herself on up her shaking elbows. "Stefan...?" She croaked, dragging herself closer. "Stefan... please... please wake up!" She begged, shaking him gently. "Stefan please... you're scaring me!"Jay held her close against him, needing the comfort of another person there with him. When he heard angry yelling, he looked over at the steel trapdoor and lock, his lips pressing in a grim line. "I would not worry about them. They are locked out for now."
Stefan started to stir when she shook him but he was still very weak and cold. His eyes were heavy lidded and he shivered "fire..." He whispered to Char needing to get his flame re-lit.Drina swallowed and shook her head "what are we going to do when we board? We can't stay trapped down here..."
Charlotte nodded fervently, pulling herself further on shore, but not far enough to start to dry off. Grabbing a few nearby sticks, and some twigs lying around, she made a small fire pit and started to quickly rub the sticks together, first creating smoke, and then a small flame. She coaxed it to life, and then moved back to Stefan, dragging him closer. Jay smiled softly. "The crew will go on shore to the taverns. We will leave once they are all gone." He promised. "No one will be the wiser."
Stefan felt the warmth and groaned in pain as his flame tried to rejuvenate itself. He panted and coughed out water, he grabbed Char's hand and held in tightly. He did not blame her at all for this, he should have been keeping track of time.Drina smiled feeling reassured, she jumped when she heard a crash of thunder against the boat. "W-what was that?"
Charlotte held his hand tight and sighed, laying against the slightly damp sand. She was exhausted from swimming that long and hard, and then dragging him and herself all over the place. And yet she wished she could do more for him, help him at all. "This is all my fault." She muttered. "I never should have brought you in the water." She said, her eyes filling with tears. Jay smiled softly. "Thunder, Drina. Have you not heard it before?" He asked, slightly amused. "Sounds like we are heading into a storm."
Stefan started to feel better and shook his head "not fault..." He loved seeing her world and wished that he wasn't such a burden to her.Drina jumped and shook her head "I lived in the desert...no rain..." The boat started to rock and she held onto him tightly and scared by the big noise.
Her tears falling slowly, Charlotte added a few sticks to the fire to make it bigger, and then backed up, as her own sensitive skin had started to burn. She retreated into the shallows and curled up, her tail around herself as she cried. Jay pulled her close against him and rubbed her arms gently to try and help comfort her. "It wont hurt you." He promised. "We're safe down here. The lightening stays up in the sky." he promised, stroking her hair.
Stefan started to feel the flame come back, his symbol glowed orange on his chest. He grabbed his damp shorts and went to her "Char...your drying out...honey I'm fine!"Drina swallowed trying to calm her rushing heart, more thunder rocked the boat sliding them to the other side "Is this normal?"
Charlotte shook her head, refusing to uncurl. "I almost killed you." She whispered, her tears had created a little damp spot on the sand. She didn't notice that her tail was starting to grow translucent again, as it got close to splitting. Jay nodded in assurance. "We're in the middle of the Pacific honey, we're bound to run into a storm or two. It only rocks a boat this size, I promise. It can't actually sink us."
Stefan shook his head "no...you didn't, it takes a lot to kill me...you saved me!" He held her close "I love you honey...please, let's go inside and make gumbo!"Drina frowned lightly did he just call her honey? The boat rocked more violently and she was slammed hard. Water was starting to leak in and her eyes went wide "I-is that normal?"
Charlotte nodded, uncurling so she could hug him. "Hold me while I dry? Then we can go inside." She promised. Her tail slowly cracked and split then, and Charlotte cried in pain briefly, but this time, she did not pass out. Jay shrugged. "These boats arent always completely sound. There's bound to be some leakage." He assured, huddling close to her on their mattress. The boat rocked more violently and barrels tumbled from their places. As they slid quickly towards the wall, Jay hit it head first and he slumped, unconscious.
Stefan held her close and massaged her legs making the blood flow "I'm sorry you have to suffer on this part..." He kissed her sweetly and carried her to the house.Drina screamed and went to help him, she kept slapping his face lightly trying to wake him up. She created a protective bubble around him with a spell. The next thing she knew however the shipped split into two and she was violently thrown out to the waves.
Charlotte smiled weakly, kissing him back. "It's worth it, for you." She promised, leaning into him as he carried up to the house. "Now we can make gumbo." She said, her eyes lighting up. Jay groaned and woke up slowly, his eyes snapping open when he saw the waves rolling around him and a dark turbulent sky, but somehow, nothing touched him. He had a little protective bubble around him. "Drina!" He shouted, walking in the bubble to maneuver it around the ocean as he tried to find her. "Drina! Where are you!? What happened!?"
Stefan smiled carefully letting her stand on her feet. He walked her into the house, the floors were carpeted and the walls painted a soothing grey. He helped her to a couch "I have some clothes that I hope fit..." He had preparing for her to visit since the night they said goodbye. The waves were nearly black as they tossed and crashed against eachother, the sound nearly deafening against the rumbling thunder. Drina's limp body was far off at sea, she was draped against a large wooden plank of the ship. The spell was created that when he awoke he would be taken to land almost immediately.
Charlotte looked around at his house and smiled in excitement. "Oh Stefan, its gorgeous!" She exclaimed, sitting down on his couch. "Any clothes would be lovely. They don't have to fit." She assured, touched by his kindness. And now that they were mates... well. It made her wonder how they would work out living together. She figured that she would spend a lot of time on land. She didn't want to hurt him again. When Jay could not see her among the rolling waves, he started to panic, pounding against the walls of the bubble. "Drina!" He shouted, sinking down against the bottom, his forehead resting against the wall. It was his fault... all his fault that she drowned... and for the first time in a long long time, Jay found himself crying. Crying because he had been unable to save another who had been dear to him. His first friend in centuries.

Drina frowned "I am very sorry..." She sighed "you asked about the camp a couple of times...it's horrid Jay, every gypsy whether they have magic or not are salves...they die in droves every day...magic is almost gone Jay..." She started to cry "I'm sorry..."
