Charlotte smiled weakly, following him. "No. It's ok." She promised, tidying the room as he made the fire. "I'm just happy to be one of the ones living." She said honestly, shrugging. Jay got her water warmed and ready, pouring it into the tub. Steam rose from it, and he smiled. "There we go. All ready. You ready to get in?" He asked, not sure exactly if she needed help taking off the gown...
Stefan nodded and smiled warming his hands before sitting on the couch and pulling her by him as he wrapped his arms around her just snuggling close. He loved fire, it was so beautiful and wild he moved his finger creating designs in the hearth like a show.Drina nodded and slowly unbuttoned her nightgown, she flushed taking off her undergarments and took his hand so he could help her in. This was definitely a moment where she trusted him completely, they were rare and sparse in her life.
Charlotte lay her head on his shoulder, exhaling deeply as she let herself relax. She watched the fire dance and lick at the logs, almost forming shapes... they looked so real, the figures she saw dancing. She blinked a couple times, and realized that the flames actually had changed shape. She looked at Stefan in surprise. "Is that you?"Jay wasn't really phased when she slipped out of her clothes. He had seen her already, as well as other women. He took her hand gently and supported her as she stepped into the water. Then he brought over a soap bar and scrub brush, holding out the soap for her.
Stefan chuckled lightly and nodded his head, he made the fire look like mermaids swimming among the flames, it was something he enjoyed and she seemed enchanted by it. Fire was a very controllable substance, it was only dangerous if one lost thr control.Drina sighed lightly looking at the handcrafted bar of soap that smelt disgusting. She crinkled her nose letting some of the freckles from the sun show on her face, looking up at him she sighed trying to let him know that she had no idea how to do any of this.
Charlotte smiled, looking back at the fire, gasping in delight as the shapes changed. It was like watching a wild vision of the cold home where she lived. It was gorgeous, and hypnotic. She found herself slowly lulled into a trance as she drifted off, lulled into a light sleep by the warmth, and flames. Jay laughed lightly. "Oh come on. It's not all that bad." He said, gently rubbing the soap over her back. "It feels nice, darling. Just relax ok?" He teased, rubbing the brush over the spots he applied soap to.
Stefan hadn't even realized that she had fallen asleep until he could feel her breathing softly against his neck. He carefully picked her up and headed to their bedroom. He carefully changed her out of her dress without disturbing her and slipping on a night gown. Tucking her into the warm sheets he kissed her lightly "goodnight love..."Drina winced her back still sensitive from the many scars across her back, she closed her eyes burying her face into her knees and trying to relax, she didn't know why she was anxious, she trusted him but...honestly she felt like she still didn't deserve this kind of care.
Charlotte only shifted once in her sleep, a light smile drifting over her features before she snuggled into the blankets and went right back to sleeping deeply. Her dreams, for once in her life, were happy and peaceful. Jay worked slowly, gently lathering her, and then scrubbing away the dirt. He tried to make it as stress free as possible, doing all the work for her. He could see the nervous creases in her forehead, and hated the thought that he might be the cause of them.
Stefan lay next to her and just watched her sleep. She was so beautiful and his heart only belonged to her, he would do anything to assure her happiness. He gently turned the oil lamps down and sighed pulling out the very old leather book with pictures of his parents, it was given to him by another imp before he was recaptured. Drina moaned softly not even meaning to, he was so gentle and it felt wonderful once she relaxed. She closed her eyes leaning back towards him and the edge of the tub.
Deep in the sea, Jason snaked his way through the water, searching for a particular mermaid female. Not Charlotte. He knew she was not in the ocean. The seacreatures had talked of her departure. No, he was looking for someone different, the mermaid who laid the love of his life. And when he found her, he was going to make her say the spell that would bring her back to him. Jay smiled softly as she relaxed and let out a noise that only meant she was enjoying it. "Having fun, are we?" He asked softly, rubbing the soap into her hair and scrubbed her scalp gently with his fingers.
Stefan finally shut the book and lay against the pillow, he couldn't sleep his mind was too full of memories happy and tragic. His body was restless and he stood and walked outside on the beach needing to relax.Drina giggled softly and nodded "it isn't torture when you are doing it..." She admitted quietly, her cheeks flushing crimson as she bit at her lip. She was ever grateful that she was turned from him so he couldn't see it. She ran her hands down her long legs and smiled lightly "water feels good..."
Jason found Charlotte's mother and got her to say the spell, a weaving of skillful enchantments to make Charlotte long for the ocean, to be pulled towards it, and in turn, Jason. Jason moved to the surface and grinned at the figure on the beach. "she wont be yours for long." he said, sliding beneath the surface again. Jay laughed, bowing slightly. "Why thank you. I do pride myself in my skills at bath giving." he joked, grinning. Rinsing out her hair, he nodded slowly. "It does look nice. Smells nice too. I'm sure you do as well, because of this fancy soap." He said, smiling softly.
Stefan swallowed and fingered the pearl around his neck, he remembered the feeling of his lungs collapsing and shuddered stepping away from the wave. If Char wanted to be in the ocean then he would follow... Even if it killed him.Drina made a face and shook so she would get him wet "I smell like a prissy girl that worries about getting her white gloves dirty..." She grumbled and sighed "I miss the caravan...this is too good for me."
Charlotte woke up, unable to breathe. She gasped and clawed at her neck, black and red spots exploding in front of her eyes. Squirming, she writhed in agony, her lungs burning as her tail flipped against the bed. She was dry, and legless. Jay jumped back, grinning as he wiped the water off his shirt. "Well it smells nice none the less." He said, raking a hand through his hair. "Nothing is too good for you. It's just better than you're used to." He said seriously, believing she deserved every minute of this.
Stefan immediately heard the commotion and rushed up, he was astonished and quickly picked her up and practically tossed her into the ocean "you're ok...you're ok..." he breathed panicked. This was a bad idea all together...Drina sighed and turned to give him a small smile "thanks..." She bit at her lip feeling very self conscious knowing he was going to have to clean the front of her as well. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, they were just friends right,
Charlotte stopped squirming when she hit the water and she lay there, just below the surface, just heaving, her eyes closed. Her lungs slowly started to burn less, and the pounding in her skull went away. Jay raised an eyebrow as he moved around the tub so he was facing her. "You ok?" he asked, noticing her bite her lip. "You doing fine with this?" He asked, slowly washing her shoulders. He asked, not going to do anything she was not comfortable with.
Stefan watched worriedly his heart pounding loudly, she seemed to be doing alright...He sat on the rock and watched her under the clear water to make sure that she was breathing again. He felt a water drop and looked up into the sky, it wasn't raining? Oh, he was crying that was rare for him.Drina cleared her throat and nodded giving a smile "I'm fine...really, you are being very gentle and wonderful." She assured and touched his cheek lightly.
Charlotte opened her eyes when she felt alright again, and she flipped her tail a little to push herself to the surface. Her mind was reeling with what could have happened, and she looked at Stefan. And then she frowned a little. "Are you... ok?" She asked softly, seeing his tear. It broke her heart. Jay smiled softly, leaning towards her touch a little. "Good. I want this to be relaxing for you, so you can get better again, ok? If it's something you're uncomfortable with, just tell me to stop." He said seriously, and continued washing her front, moving down from her shoulders to her stomach and washing everything in between, always as gentle as he could be.
Stefan felt some relief when she popped to the surface, he nodded quickly wiping the tear "a-are you?" He whispered his voice having difficulty coming out. He cleared his throat and shook his head "I never should have taken you from the ocean...if you had died..."Drina closed her eyes just letting herself enjoy his warm touch against her skin, it was very difficult not to feel warmth. Her mother had explained that it was wicked to think that way so she quickly opened her eyes to distract. He went lower and she shook her head "I-I can take care of..."
Charlotte nodded smiling at him. "Of course I am." She said seriously, not wanting him to worry. It wasn't his fault after all, what had happened... that made her wonder. What did happen exactly? Why on earth did she have a tail? "Stefan... don't say that! I wan't nothing more than to stay with you!" She said seriously, pulling herself up onto the sand. "I wasn't dying, just a little short on air..."Jay had been washing gently, his mind wandering a little bit, as it was hard not to in this situation, very hard. She had a beautiful body. When she spoke, he pulled back, nodding quickly, his ears bright red. "Right sorry... I was... I... here." He gave her the bar of soap.
Stefan sighed "but if I hadn't come..." He shook his head "please stay in the water it's safest..." He leaned close and kissed her "I can't lose the only thing I love..." He whispered seriously and sat in the water with her.Drina swallowed and tried to hide her crimson face as she took the soap and tried to clean in that area, but it was so painful for her she dropped the soap slumping her body on the side of the tub, how humiliating was this? She wished she could disappear.
Charlotte kssed hm back softly, allowing herself to slide a little into the water as he urged her to, but still stayed close to him. "But I cant lose you!" She protested, reaching out to take his hand. "If I go... you cant follow." She whispered, her eyes watering up with tears.Jay gently picked up the soap, and without saying anything, he helped her wash the rest of herself, forcing his own eyes to stay away from her body so as to keep it from becoming awkward.
Stefan swallowed and kissed her deeper "we'll stick with our original plan...every new moon we will be together and I will love you every second I can be with you..."Drina turned her face away biting her tongue to stop the noises of pleasure she was feeling, when she couldn't feel his hands she looked up at him and nodded "thank you..."
Charlotte bit her lip, laying her head against him as the tears flowed. She couldnt even respond to that, she was crying too hard. She hated the idea. She hated the thought of being away from him for even a moment.Jay nodded and stood up, holding a hand to her to help her get up. "Ready to get out?" He was trying to hide how awkward he felt at that moment. He had not failed to notice her reactions.
Stefan held her close and stroke back her long hair, he brought her face up to look at him "hey...distance only makes the heart stronger...I wish I could join you forever in the sea, but I will die just as easily as you could..."Drina nodded and took his hand stepping out and going to the fluffy towel he had presented, she wrapped it around herself and shivered the cold was almost painful and she curled into his arms naturally.
Charlotte forced herself to nod, but she couldnt make herself happy with this. Her heart already ached trumendously and she hadnt even left yet. "Ill miss you too much." She whispered.Jay wrapped the towel around her, holding her gently when she leaned into him. He rubbed his arms to warm her and brought her to the dresser. "Lets get you a clean gown." He mused outloud, pulling one out for her and helping her into it.
Stefan swallowed "what about every night then?...I'll come join you in the sea till dawn..." He offered not wanting to be away from her either, but she belonged in the sea.Drina wrapped herself in the warm gown, she hugged him around the neck just needing to be with him, it felt more right then in the tub. She didn't really care anymore about him knowing her true feelings.
Charlotte choked back a sob and shook her head. "You could die." She said, her heart cracking. "Id rather join you everyday, than have you come in the water again. I couldnt lose you either!" She said, burying her face against him.Jay smiled down at her and scooped her up gently, carrying her back to her bed. He lay her down and tucked her in, making sure she was comfortable. "You feeling ok?" He asked, worried about her as always.
Stefan sighed and stroke her hair "I'll be more cautious of the time and we won't go so deep...meet up on the beach and swim to shoulder depth..." Drina smiled at him softly and nodded "I'm fine..." She said softly and took his hand wanting him with her, it always felt cold when his arms weren't wrapped around her.
Charlotte shook her head, hugging him, but she knew it was the only way. The only way both of them could see each other with how she was right now. Maybe at some point... she could find a way to get legs permanently. Or at least keep her fin from growing if she didn't want it to. "I hate leaving you. I hate it." She mumbled.Jay smiled a little, giving in and sat beside her. "Ok. Try speaking English to me again. You need to practice." he urged, moving so he leaned against the bed headboards beside her.
Stefan nodded "I feel the same way my love...but it is for the best and we will still see each other often enough." He promised and stroke her cheek lovingly. He eyed the locket and smiled "I'm always with you though..."Drina sighed and nodded "He-lo Jay h-how are yoo?" She asked slowly concentrating on each sound, it was so unusual from her easy flowing language.
Charlotte fingered the locket, nodding. "Yes. You are." She agreed, leaning her forehead against his. "I will see you here tomorrow night then?" she whispered softly, hopefully. Jay grinned. "I'm good thanks." he said in English. "How are you?" He squeezed her hand gently. "You are really getting the hang of this. It sounds wonderful." He promised in her own language.
Stefan nodded "as soon as the sun goes down..." He promised and kissed her lovingly. "I'll be waiting here even in the late afternoon...just so I don't miss it." Drina smiled feeling proud of herself "t-thank yooou.." She sounded out carefully. She loved when he got excited about her accomplishments and the little things like saying a word right.
Charlotte nodded, consoled by that. "I'll be here." She promised. "I wouldn't miss it for the world." Kissing his hand gently, she let it go, and knowing if she stayed any longer she would never get herself to leave, she quickly swam away as her tears squeezed from her eyes. Jay grinned. "You're welcome, m'lady." He said in English. She really was getting better at the language, and he was proud of her. "You'll be able to go to all sorts of fancy balls and things now that you can greet people." He told her, smiling. "Doesn't that sound nice?"
Stefan turned so that he didn't have to watch her disappear, he took a deep breath trying to stay calm and connected. It wasn't as if she was leaving forever...he looked up at the moon and then headed back inside and to bed.Drina's eyes widened and she shook her head "I think not! I would make a fool of myself!" She said hastily and shook her head releasing some of the pent up energy "I don't know how to dance or act or eat like a lady...you yourself called me a vegabond!"
Charlotte's tears were lost in the waves, and she swam as quick as she could to her cave. She wanted to just curl up and cry. When she got there, she squeaked in surprise as her neck was encircled by a thick arm, her wrists quickly tied. "You're mine now darling." Came a male voice. "And when you don't ever go to the shore again, your little boy will think you left him." He hissed. Charlotte choked back a sob, struggling furiously. "No! please! You can't!"Jason laughed. "Yes I can darling. I already did."
Jay smiled softly, shaking his head. "That was only because you were ignorant of our customs before. Anyone can learn them in time. And I'm sure once you did every man this side of the Pacific would be smitten with you."
Stefan tried to sleep but the bed felt cold without her, he stared at the wall thinking about everything. If there was a special to turn him into a merman he would do it. The was old saying that if you whisper a wish into a conch shell it would come true. That's exactly what he did.Drina flushed, she only wanted one man. "Pish posh..." She said in English remembering that term of unbelief and brushing it aside. "Once a man knows me he will surely regret that he did." She said in her language.
Charlotte could do nothing with her hands tied. She could not stop him from kissing her and really doing what he wanted with her. And hour later, he left her sobbing and still bound, locked in her own closet as he went to go hunt. Jay laughed lightly. "I highly doubt it darling. I think I know you pretty well, and I just want to get to know you better." he said, smiling a little. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and looked away quickly again, finding his ears growing red once more.
Stefan finally fell asleep, his wish whispered against the soft waves and into the hands of the sea imp. She created a bubble of light and contained the swirling mist putting it in the chest of wishes to be granted. When Stegan would step into the water he will turn into a strong merman.Drina smiled, he was find of her. Perhaps just as a friend but it did create that fluttery feeling in her stomach again. She flushed holding his hand to her cheek and leaning into it.
Charlotte tucked her tail weakly against herself, feeling very abused and abandoned. Curling up in the furthest corner of her closet, she let herself cry, dreading when Jason would come back again. Jay flushed a little in surprise when she took his hand and leaned into it. Was she... did she....? There was only one way to find out. Jay cupped her face gently and planted a soft kiss on her lips before pulling away hastily. "I... I'm sorry.... I...." he just blushed brighter.
Stefan awoke the next morning and felt an odd sensation, he had the most distinct feeling that he should go to the ocean. He didn't even dress as he rushed out. The minute his toes touched the ocean he cried out in agony and collapsed he seized feeling like he was being wrapped in tight bonds. Soon his legs started to pale and scale over turning a sapphire blue with a light tail. He dove into the ocean and tested his swimming finding it marvelous!Drina thought she had been dreaming again until she heard him speak, it had actually happened? She put a finger against his lips and then pressed her lips softly against his.
Jason had returned late last night, but had left Charlotte alone in the closet. Come morning light, she heard him approaching and whimpered when he opened the door, dragging her out. "Let me go Jason. You got what you wanted." she whispered, her face still tearstained. Jason shook his head. "Not yet. Tell me you love me."
Charlotte shook her head. "Never. I would never love a leach like you."
Jason slapped her hard. "Say that again worm and you're dead meat."
Jay was more than a little surprised when she silenced him and kissed him again. He smiled softly against her lips, his hand coming up to cup her cheek again as he kissed back. It was a lovely feeling, this stirring. He had not felt anything like it before.
Stefan remembered the way to her cave, he was so excited to surprise her! He saw Jason slap her and growled slamming him against the cave wall "don't you dare touch her!" He growled and started to burn his flesh.Drina kissed him once more before pulling back and smiling softly "I didn't think that..." She started softly too mystified by the kiss to speak clearly and coherently.
Charlotte had reeled back and curled up, shaking in fear when Jason slapped her. She couldn't wipe her eyes because her hands were tied. She had not seen Stefan come in, she had reeled away too soon. Jason thrashed against him, hissing in anger and pain. He tried to snake his long tail around Stefan to pull him away.
Jay shook his head, putting a finger to his lips. "Shh. I understand. And I feel the same way." He whispered, smiling a little. "I'm just a bit of a wimp or I would have kissed you sooner."
Stefan just kept burning him creating painful ulcers on his chest and arms. He slammed his head into the hard wall and threw him to the side "beg for your life...now!" He growled ready to finish the job.Drina flushed and smiled moving his hand away and holding it, "you are far opposite from being a wimp..." She assured and stroke his stubble lightly. It felt amazing, he felt something for her...she had thought he didn't see her that way, what with the bath and casualness of it.
Jason had cried out in pain, spasming beneath his hands. He writhed on the floor of the cave, "Please. Please don't kill me!" He begged. Charlotte's initial shock slowly lessened and her sobs deminished into soft whispers. Raising herself a little, she caught sight of a strange merman and gasped in shock, backing up a little bit, frightened. If it was killing Jason, then it would be after her next. She didn't think Stefan could ever be a merman.
Jay smiled slightly, closing his eyes for a brief moment before opening them again. "Thanks darling." He said softly, kissing her forehead. "I'm glad someone still has faith in me."
Stefan growled and shot a fire ball damaging his eyes and senses "there...you get to live but live the pain you caused others..." He threw him out of the cave. He sighed tiredly and saw Char move away "Charlotte...it's me..." He said softly reaching out his hand.Drina nodded and smiled up at him "do you still want me to go to the fancy balls and parties?" She asked honestly wanting to please him.
Charlotte stared at him, rising a little bit. It did sort of look like him... until his waist anyways. Below that... was a tail. How did he get a tail? Heart pounding, her eyebrows raised in surprise. "Stefan...?"Jay laughed lightly. "I'd like to take you to a few, if you would like to." he said honestly. "I want to introduce you to my world." He said, kissing her temple. "After all, I think you would enjoy it."
Stefan smiled lightly and nodded "it's me darling...I don't know how it happened, I wished it last night and woke up needing to get to the ocean..." He tried to explain and flipped his tail lightly.Drina smiled "as long as I am with you...I'll enjoy myself." She promised and leaned on his shoulder "I want to see your world, know you as well as you know me..."
Charlotte swam a little closer and reached out her tied hands to touch a scale gingerly. It was real... he had a tail... He had a tail! "Stefan! You have a tail!" She exclaimed, just staring, her eyes wide. Jay smiled, holding her close against him. "Wonderful, because I feel the same way. Though... It's going to be hard to get to know me well." he admitted honestly. "I don't really... open up to people."
Drina touched the cold marble and shivered rubbing her arms still clad in the lacy white night gown. She pulled out the pink ribbon and shook her hair loose now curly from being braided for so long.
