Team Krakatoa Go Go
I am a glutton for punishment. Signed up for Tower Teams here and Bookshelf Bingo in the SOS group. I need help!
Haha! I here I am still sorry I missed Tower last year (Harry Potter)... but possibly sorry I signed up for this year (Sins) because the Mods are already enjoying Effing with me. 😆

I think I might have passed on Tower Teams this round if they didn't add that part about penalizing for going too far over your normal goal. Takes a little pressure and guilt away if I need a day or two here and there as a break from reading much. Also makes it a little fairer. I know I'm guilty of putting my normal reading average, actually usually slightly higher, but then reading a lot more than that in the excitement of competition.eta: also because the book requirements are pretty loose other than whatever mini-challenges they toss at us.

I had to check and see what you were referring to - that one is Megan's book. I didn't think I had any numbers lol, but with my memory I had to still check.

I'm in three challenges right now but this is the only one that is focused much on multiple tasks, so it's working out.
I don't think I'm up for Bookish Bingo right now but I have played on SOS groups and they're fun with that!

Sometimes with these team challenges where they try to do balanced teams and someone who has read 5 books in three months suddenly starts spitting out 10 a week, and it gets unbalanced fast!
That said, I'm not sure what I think about the penalty thing. Some weeks a person can read much more than normal, like if they're on vacation or caught up in a series addiction with shorter page count books and higher reading mood, so the numbers will climb as they would have even if they weren't part of a challenge. Penalizing for that, not sure about that.

So it did look like I under estimated what I would read.

For our last team challenge we did together with Wheel I made myself read more than usual for 2 weeks because I had time to help cover for Donna when she was moving, so yes, sometimes you have to read more because of what the team needs and if you're able.
I'm not one that goes heavily over estimates really though, so this may not apply to me at all anyway. I'm not sure if it would be a few more books than predicted when they ask for average, or only if it's extreme.

Ah, yeah, I accidentally typed your name there.
Comment was directed at Megan :)
I actually PMed the Mods to ask if I could lower my sign-up number for 18 (or 20, I’m not sure what I put) to 15, because I anticipate reading slightly fewer books during TT than I might otherwise, because I have some RL stuff coming down the pike. But I agree that it is hard to predict, and one should always expect the needs of the team to shift around as stuff happens to people.

It's in the Spell-It-Out rules
"If the first letter of a title is a numerical digit, then you use the first letter of that digit for your spell out (i.e. 1984 is N; 2046 is T; 1Q84 is O)"
It's about a quarter of the way down the page.
I think they are going by the team as a whole so unless everyone on the team is reading way over or way under capacity it should be ok for most teams. But they say they try to create equal teams as far as average number of books read and then you end up with a couple of teams who just read an insane amount of books right off the bat and no one ever catches up to them. So you have to wonder if those people were honest when they signed up.
But like I said, I usually double my reading during these challenges. When I'm doing something like Wheel or Tower teams, I'm more likely to read instead of watch TV and listen to an audio book in the car instead of music. I'm also more likely to speed up the audio book narration.
I'll have a low reading number while I'm on vacation. But I'll just read a couple of shorties to compensate. I'm not going to want to read anything serious on vacation anyway. So some short kindle freebies while waiting for my hubby or to unwind before bed will be good.

Ah. I did actually check the rules, but I only did a Ctrl+F search for "number" and not "numerical" so I did not find it. Sorry!
We're allowed to use words like the, a, of, etc.., for tasks like 7 where we have to find the letters of a word in the title, right?
They switched things up this week, so we need to finish by 7 am 9/13 for Eastern Time in the US. Approximately 20 hrs and 45 minutes, from now, according to the countdown clock. I'll finish mine tonight.
We're reading zone 1 first right?
Of course the week we take a little longer than usual is the one they shave a couple of days off the countdown.
Yeah, that sucks for us.But we can do it, yeah? Three of us are on our final countdown book, and Erin has 2 but they're short...
Mary, Mary, Just a bit contrary wrote: "We're reading zone 1 first right?"I don't see why not, unless somebody has a deadline on their planned zone 2 books (library due date, other challenge, etc.)
If so, speak now :D
Shoot. I just realized the book I swapped out for zone 1 was a BOM book. But I think the one I put in there was also. I'll check and if not, I'll swap them back. If I have to I'll put the Ilona Andrews on my old Ipod so I don't have to get in line for it yet again.
Indeed, it doesn't look like Burn for Me has ever been an NBRC BOM... :(Maybe someone read it on another team though?
Alysa wrote: "Indeed, it doesn't look like Burn for Me has ever been an NBRC BOM... :(Maybe someone read it on another team though?"
I can cover the BOM with my N. I own several options that work for it.
Looks like they archived the older ones in separate Discussion folders. For example:
Discussion > Previous BOMs - Authors; A - D:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
I usually just check the spreadsheet where they keep ALL the previous BOMs and BRs.
ETA: Ah, I didn't see your other comment. :)

I'll read One Day by David Nicholls was BOM in Dec 2011.
Sorry, went to lunch. Well that worked out good.eta: glad I noticed that before we got docked some points.
I have to go to Meet the Teacher Night today, and after that I am going to my friend's book launch! Am happy for her.
But this makes two of my friends (who are also friends with each other) who have books out that I haven't read yet. This one is brand new so I don't feel bad about not having read it yet... but the other one has been out for a while -- even the sequel is out! -- and I just haven't gotten around to it because the genre is not my favorite thing.
*hangs head*
BTW, everything completed so far is on the official spreadsheet but I hadn't been checking if editions match.Y'all might want to check yours and make sure that what you read is what's on there (w/possible exception of using "default" edition if you listened to an audiobook).
I'll be offline from now until late tonight. I'll check in then and hopefully add whatever else is finished and has confirmed good links. If others want to add their own books to the official spreadsheet that is obvs fine too, but I seem to be ostensibly in charge of this, so.
I can also add stuff early tomorrow morning if need be, because I'll be up around 6:40am EST. It's not ideal though, since I'm mainly haranguing my child to get out of bed ;D
I can check in later tonight and/or earlier tomorrow morning. I just have to harangue myself into getting ready for work.
I got a raise today and we are going out to dinner to celebrate. But that wont' be late. We're early birds and have to tape our eyelids open to stay up past 10pm nowadays.
Tomorrow noon will be too late to avoid penalty reading.9pm on 9/13/19 Sydney time is 7 am on 9/13/19 EST in the US.
Ah, I'll work on finishing it tonight then. It's one of those weird books that Ive been reading it for days, it's good and not that long, but it just seems to somehow take forever like the page count was marked wrong or something. I'm over halfway through it.
I think we decided to finish zone 1 first. But you can start books for other zones as well and just not finish them.
Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* wrote: "Okay, we are all done with our tasks, moving to the official spreadsheet."Awesome! Thanks Erin!
And everyone is good w/their edition linking to what they read (if not audio)?

I had that one book during Wheel that took me AGES to read. My edition says 772 pages, but I swear it felt like triple that amount!
I am excited to start reading for the Safe Zones. I am going to read From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler to my daughter, told her we could start this weekend. And I am really looking forward to the book I was originally gonna read for the countdown (the #3 in a series task) too.
So tonight I went to my friend’s book launch, and I really wanna read her book asap! Plus the one(s) by our other friend! It will probably not be until Tower Teams though.

Plus seriously hard to like a main character who doesn't go home to see her elderly Aunt, her only living relative, for 35 years because a boy in High school broke her heart.
