My first Y book also works for N if it needs to be moved. Hoping to finish that today. Today through Sunday should be good reading days for me.
I'm almost done with The Library Book (O). After that I can plow through my other ones which are all shorter books from tonight until Sunday night. I think I will have some decent reading time (as well as decent hunting time when we get the task list for Round 3)!And then there is I Blame Dennis Hopper, which I started before my trip but then didn't bring device with me, like a moron. I resumed yesterday and should finish tomorrow.

It was very disturbing. For my offline book club
A Monster Of All Time: The True Story of Danny Rolling, The Gainesville Ripper
We all live in Florida not far from Gainesville too so that doesn't help lol
I have just been really busy. Not the alone in the car running around, so listening to audio books kind of busy. Someone was always with me. Got my daughter moved into her dorm apartment. Made a bunch of gift baskets for my Jack and Jill party tomorrow, a bbq, a dinner party and an Elks meeting. We were going to go out tonight but we've decided to stay home.
I did finish a short Y book last night and got a good chunk of an I book done this morning.
I am getting my second wind with reading, the first 2 weeks were a bit rough for me since I was busy and not as into a reading mood, but thankfully that's lifting some now.
I think they call them a Stag and Hen party in the UK. It's basically a fund raiser for the bride and groom. People buy tickets to attend. Family and friends bring food. There's basket raffles, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle etc..,, In our case we have a band playing for free because they're part of our Elks lodge. It's coming in really handy that Sean and I are both active Elks and on the board. Free band, free hall for both the wedding and the party. We even got the marriage license for free with no appointment because the city clerk is an Elk and so is the Justice of the Peace who is marrying us for free.
Huh! I've of course heard of separate stag (bachelor) parties and hen (bachelorette) parties, but never of anything like what you described. Sounds amazing!Once I finish my 2 current reads -- which should be by this evening -- my remaining 2 books are a U and a B. The U book is the shorter of the two and I think I can knock it out quickly. But before I start on my B book (tomorrow, I expect!), I'll check and see what's going on with those missing N's. My library hold N book just came in and although I don't know how fast/slow a read it will be compared to the B book, I'd rather try to finish a half-finished word than add a random letter that's going to sit by itself and be unusable...

Yeah, I've never heard of this either. Here in the Midwest we just do the dollar dance during the wedding reception.
An I can cover one of the Ns. I don't have plans for the weekend so I should be able to knock out my last U book and another if needed.
In this area (Southern New England) it's becoming more common to do a Jack and Jill than having a bachelor and bachelorette party.
megan wrote: "An I can cover one of the Ns. I don't have plans for the weekend so I should be able to knock out my last U book and another if needed."Please do feel free to claim anything that's still open on the spreadsheet!
I think here is NY it's still usually separate bachelor and bachelorette parties, but it's becoming more a bit more common to have mixed-gender bridal and baby shower guests.
@Mary - have you started Bodyguard Lockdown yet?If not, I am wondering if you and I should give up that B and Y and read for the open O and N instead.
If it turns out that we cannot reach 40 books this round, it would be better to leave a single 2-letter word on the table than two partial words of 2 letters and 3 letters each, with finished letters that we cannot use. :/
I think I am still going to start my short U book next in any case, just so we can be sure to fill in the second "YOU" spelling asap. Might not start until morning though.
ETA: Grrrr... I don't know if I should start that U book, not knowing if we will end up not being able to use it. I feel stuck. I think I'll just go to sleep and hope there's more clarity in the morning regarding what all everybody else is finishing soonest!
ETA Again!: Maybe we should move Mary's "You'll" book that also works for N, and just drop that third spelling of "YOU"? But then we'd be probably top out at 37 books and it would be great to get at least 38... :/
Good morning! It looks good like Megan added an O for “YOU” so I will read my U book today really quickly.
As for my doing N versus B, I don’t think I will be able to do both so I could really use some input...
I haven’t started Bodyguard Lockdown yet. I can switch it to something else. On my phone at the moment so can’t look at spreadsheet. I might swap a couple books out for shorter ones.
Mary, Mary, Just a bit contrary wrote: "I haven’t started Bodyguard Lockdown yet. I can switch it to something else. On my phone at the moment so can’t look at spreadsheet. I might swap a couple books out for shorter ones."If it turns out that we cannot finish a word, I vote to drop BY.
I can read my planned B book for a Round 3 countdown task anyway...
Taking a look at Round 3 tasks. I have one for task 9 and Arsenic. Currently looking for something for task 7 but drawing a blank so far.ETA: found one for task 7. Also works for 10.
I have one for task 1 as well if needed.
Also zone 1 is 7 books this round instead of 4. There's a 60 point bonus to do it and each letter is worth 30 points. That's 270 points. There's no 7 letter word in the tasks jumping out at me that looks like it would be worth more.
Well it does not necessarily have to be a seven letter word. I have to do my math spreadsheet again but I suspect a bunch on INs and such would be worth more again. That being said, we are not going to rise very high through the ranks so at this point it might more sense to just read what we want, have fun and stress less. 🙂
True. I just swapped out a longer I book for shorter one for this round thinking I could squeeze another short book in now. Do we need another B book? I see a reason in there but no book or reader. I have a short one I could read.
Or should I read a back up for another letter that have books filled in but not finished yet?
Man this is when being on mobile and a super crappy app really frustrates me. I accidentally left my laptop at work and I could kick myself. Even on and iPad even the Google sheets app isn’t the greatest. No cutting and pasting book links.

That should work out okay, Alysa.
@Megan - I added a link for The Weight of Silence earlier today so hopefully you don’t need to change the edition. :)@Mary - sorry, I took out my B book because I am going to do an N instead, but I forgot to clear the reason. We should drop “BY” unless the rest of you still think you can squeeze it in in time.

I can cover B, I'm working on a Book that has a character called Sheriff Billingsly
Which books/letters are we thinking we may not be able to cover? I can move my N if needed to another week if that's covered and take something else, but I see we have some uncompleted N's still so that probably wouldn't be helpful? Which books are we concerned about not completing?
It all depends on what books you have already started.Let’s put notes on the spreadsheet indicating that, I guess, like we did last round.
The only thing I know for certain is that no one has started reading for “BY”, and if we cannot make it to 40 books, I would rather drop that a 2-letter word than have people start something that we won’t be able to use.
Also BTW I am not going to do the spreadsheet math for the Round 3 Safe Zones until Monday, when I can use Excel at work. So we only need to worry about planning books for the countdown for the first few days. :D
I'm reading Venice Vampyre now and it's short. I could probably do BY by myself if needed. It just might take me until tomorrow evening. But like Erin, I was wondering if I should read something as a back up for a word we already have partially done. Megan are you still covering that O and U?
I don’t need a back-up for mine (U and N) but I cannot read more than those two things. If Megan and Erin finish their claims and then one of them can help Mary to spell BY (or if Mary can spell BY by herself) then we could still complete our 40.
I am gonna go read some more of my U book now. It is really good! 😁
Ugh that 500+ page book task in the Round 3 countdown. If this were any other week I would be able to cover it, but this week I have waaaaaay to much going on to accomplish that in any acceptable amount of time. Even if I dropped something else. :(
@Mary and Erin - are your editions correct for The Highland Dragon's Lady (Mary) and A Dangerous Thing (Erin)? The links currently both go to paperbacks so I just want to make sure.
Fixed! After the challenge is over I'll have to remember to switch back to these editions on my bookshelf lol
Alysa wrote: "I don’t get it. How come you don’t just shelve them now?"They were shelved already under the edition/cover I wanted, which does not always match the cover of the one I have completed. I shelve a lot based on the cover details instead of the actual edition read.
It's not a common issue so I'll try to catch it next time if it happens again.
Ah, makes sense!A lot of older books I read before I joined GR I just shelved as default edition when I added them, and I probably did the same for a lot of the books I read before I started doing NBRC challenges. Also some stuff is default ed when I add to my TBR.
But now I usually shelve as edition actually read as soon as I start reading something, because I got so used to doing it for challenges!
Erin, way to go on the CS Lewis planned for Round 3, btw. Almost seems like a cheat but it isn't! LOL!
Alysa wrote: "Erin, way to go on the CS Lewis planned for Round 3, btw. Almost seems like a cheat but it isn't! LOL!"Yes, that worked out perfectly!
I have a reading day planned for today. So I’ll finish up whatever I have left on the spell out. I’ll look for more round 3 books this evening.
Mary, Mary, Just a bit contrary wrote: "I have a reading day planned for today. So I’ll finish up whatever I have left on the spell out. I’ll look for more round 3 books this evening."Did you see my question somewhere above re your edition of Highland Dragon’s Lady?
I will finish Night’s Master at some point between now and bedtime. Not sure when exactly, as my daughter and I are going to a bridal shower today, but I will get it done!

If someone else has I or Y books, I can switch to an N if needed.
