I got caught up in my book when I started it late last night, so I'm all done for this week. It was a cute book.

On my phone. After I have dinner I will update my books. Finished my Y book. I can read a short B book tonight.
Never mind. I had it in my head that Bodyguard Lockdown was for the Y in BY and we needed a B. Looks like all the spell out spots are claimed so I'm going to relax tonight, look for round 3 books and go to bed early. We had our party last night and I didn't get to bed until almost 1. Unfortunately our dog (see my profile pic for the culprit), having slept all evening while we were out, was wide awake and bouncing on the bed before 7 am.eta: looks like all our finished words have been moved over to the spreadsheet. I'll check back later tonight and see if any more need to be moved.

I have about 50 pages left of my N book. Home stretch.
In the morning I will start doing the math for Round 3, and we’ll see once and for all what Safe Zones we wanna do, and what spell-outs.
I am feeling like, if the best point value is going to be spelling IN and YOU a bunch of times again and whatnot, we should just throw in the towel on maximizing points and spell words with lower value but more variety. It seems like we were blowing our stash a bit on Ns in particular.
What do you all think? Majority rules.
In the meantime, no one needs to go too far down the book-planning rabbit hole past the countdown tasks. :)
Also for Highland Dragon's lady, there's no audible edition available on goodreads so I just linked to the default edition. I don't think edition matters that much unless it's being used for a cover task or we're claiming the narrator for a spell out. But I just switched it to the CD version if you feel that's better. There's no disc count listed. The book is over 300 pages. Bodyguard Lockdown doesn't have an audio version on goodreads either so I I went with the default.
I have asked if PI's count for task 7. Hopefully they'll say yes because it's the only one I found.
Yeah I have seen conflicting information as to whether to use the Audio edition (where available) or the Default edition when one has only listened to the Audio version of something: I have seen “must use edition actually read” and I have seen “use Default”.
But I think you are right that it probably doesn’t matter too much if the covers are the same (ie, cover task) and the book is over 100 pages and does not require additional length verification (ie, childrens). So use whatever edition of the Highland book you want :)

I saw someone else ask about police Inspectors but that’s not necessarily the same thing unless they are a “Detective Inspector” according to the British system, I guess.
I found a book for skull on cover and poison in text. Actually I have 3 for that one. I haven't had any luck with the "yellow on cover, poison in author's name task". Hopefully Megan comes up with something, but I'll look again tomorrow. To me, a PI works because they investigate crimes. But I'd rather check now over getting dinged for it later.
I'm exhausted and my eyes hurt so I'm stopping my book hunt for the night. I can read Arsenic with Austin first for my task books and cross my fingers that they'll allow First Offense or that I can find something else.

Finished it and found a POISON yellow. Just need to get my hands on a copy.
All books have been added to the official spreadsheet.We are currently in 4th place, and one of 4 teams who have reached 40 books w/the maximum possible point value for Round 2. But of course this can change by morning!

Yes I'm all for that. I have to read for other challenges as well, so the reductions of availability for spell it outs here made it tougher.

I think I need to find a new book for task 7. Or maybe read one later in the series. From the description, in the first book he starts out as an advertising executive. But by the second book he's a PI being paid to find a missing woman. He's also investigating a stabbing. Think book 2 counts?

If he becomes a detective later I wouldn't think it would work. Cozy mysteries have amateur sleuths but they're not actually detectives, and this one is reading like that from how you're describing it so far.
I got nothing so far. Well I found one but no library copy immediately available. It's set in ancient Greece and the main character is commissioned with finding an assassin. He's a government agent. Of course right now I am locked out of my local library's system. So annoyed. They do this stupid thing of making you appear in person once a year to renew. I was just there last week and they said nothing to me. Now I have to make a stop there for no other reason than to reactivate my card. You'd think the fact that I am there regularly checking out stuff in person would be enough but no, it's not.

Geez, that IS annoying. I wonder if that's a common practice for libraries?
I think all of ours have their quirks.
My library doesn't allow adults in the Young Adult section to check out those books, which is kind of conflicting since so many adults like YA now.
Found another one, but again-can't check my local library. 4 week wait from Brooklyn. And because of my stupid local library issues, I can't check Boston either.
Okay I am working on the Round 3 safe zone options -- We should definitely do all 3 zones again, as we get great point value from Zones 1 and 2.
In Zone 3, as expected and feared, we would have to spell in IN IN IN IN IN IN IN ON ON UK to get maximum point value. I really don't think it's worth it at this point.
Instead I'm going to put in some other words that have more variety but are decently valuable enough that it won't be embarrassing. Is this okay with everybody?

Keep some of the INs and ONs, I've been stock piling N books.

Ugh. Went to my library on my lunch break and I'm now back in the system. But they don't have any of the books I found for task 7 available in a reasonable amount of time in audio. I got one of them in ebook. It just might take me longer than normal to get through. My local branch did have other books in the same series as one and I'm going to do an Amazon book search in hopes of finding the character in one they had on hand. Fingers crossed because it's one of those series where the characters change pretty much each book and the setting is the same.
eta: looks like he might be one of the later books but I can't tell if he's in there enough.
I see that a neighboring branch has a copy of discs for the one I know he's in and maybe I can swing by there tomorrow after work.

Someone in the "does this work for the task" thread mentioned an Inspector Slack from an Agatha Christie book. They said he counts as long as his first name isn't revealed anywhere and it doesn't fit with the POISON initial. According to the character profile on goodreads (a rare one that's been filled out!), he appears in 2 books. I did an Amazon word search for the name Slack in both books and his first name doesn't appear to pop up. I even searched the TV show episodes and the TV show WIKI and no first name listed. I've read them both but it was years ago. But I checked one out and crossing my fingers that his first name doesn't pop up.
Okay, I put in a tentative spell-out plan for Zone 3 that strikes a balance between variety and good point value.What do you think?
@Megan, I suppose INITIALS could be replaced with IN IN IN IN.. but how many N's have you been hoarding? ;D
There are still 3 Ns across the 4 words currently in there.
Or we could change WORD to BORN for the same point value is anybody feels strongly about it.
ETA: I also moved my own planned zone 2 books down into zone 3, just because I am more likely to get to these particular books at that time, depending on how fast we get through the countdown. I can still read for all 3 zones if needed, but these books (esp Tricked) will be more like towards the end next week.

I have N books and haven't actually used any for the spell outs. But I'll go with majority rule as far as that goes.
If Mary and Megan wanna change the spreadsheet from INITIALS to IN IN IN IN/ON, there will be no objections from Erin and me, but just keep in mind that the two of you would probably need to cover most of that. 🙂

@Erin - I removed your Knights book, because as per 50% of us "INITIALS" is being replaced with IN/IN/IN/ON.
But you may be interested to know that I started The Flood, and it has a character names Oscar! So you can use it for Zone 1 too, if you want. It would be much better for me to swap a letter with you in Zone 1 than to take the empty O there.
Which zone are we doing first? I don't have a preference-nothing is due back at the library or for another challenge.
Okay, sounds good. I reserved an O and freed up the P for now if someone needs it. I have to finish that book by Friday for another team challenge (Beauty Queens), so would have had to remove it if we didn't start Zone 1 in time anyway.
I plan on having my Task 3 Books to escape the poison hopefully all done by Thursday, then can do the 2 zone books I have reserved, those two shouldn't take me long.

Oh, I have one that fits that I have to read within the next few days anyway for another challenge (has to be done by Thursday). I didn't have it on our spreadsheet since it didn't fit anywhere for Poison, but it's #3 in a series.
I lied, I do have an expiring library book so I swapped my I in zone book out and put it in zone 3. I have checked this same Ilona Andrews book out now like 10 times and can never seem to work it into whatever current team challenge I am doing.

I feel good about using Murder at the Vicarage for task 7. Inspector Slack's first name is never given in either book he's in (according to Amazon search, google books search and my Kindle search) or any sort of Miss Marple wiki info anywhere. He only appears in 2 books.

Also 2 of my spell out books can be used for either I or N. I just put one in each with a note. I'm keeping it to 4 for now and I'll add more if I think I can. Will really depend on when we hit zone 3.

@Erin - re spell-out plan for zone 3, I'm not sure we're allowed to substitute written numbers for digits (e.g. N for 99). The challenge rules don't mention it, anyway.
