Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I forget the Tin Eye rules? Do we exclude background colors or not?

I have a very clearly black book that Tineye shows as most grey if you include the background and mostly brown if you don't.

Relative Fortunes (Julia Kydd #1) by Marlowe Benn

Tineye is calling that black mass of cover Black Russian (grey!)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Yeah, I don't like dependence on Tineye. It's not as accurate as some think, and creates problems with random books.

If someone doesn't see that as black, they need new eyes.

Black also comes in different shades. *sighs*

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Oop. I thought I asked this in the Sinful Chat thread. I actually want to use it for brown in this instance as black isn't an option.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Ah!

I don't see much brown, and apparently Tineye sees greys lol, so who knows

message 757: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments LOL. I just ran another cover through that looked blue grey to me and Tineye says it's 69% black. Go figure.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments In case anyone had forgotten like me, the back ground boxes are supposed to be unchecked when using tineye.

Got it, I get that confused at times too

megan | 1492 comments Gonna have to give up my White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America for I. Non-fiction just takes me too long to read. I have plenty more I's, but I was looking forward to reading this one. I know way more about the distinct class differences in Britain than anything in the US. Thanks regency romance and Downton Abby!

message 761: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments I know, right? I am so excited for the new Downton Abbey movie!

message 762: by Alysa (last edited Sep 18, 2019 01:34PM) (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments I have started 5 different books for Safe Zone 3, and can't/won't finish any of them until tomorrow (assuming Mary finished SZ2 by then).
Plus I have vaguely started to scout books for TT.

I think my head is going to explode :D

message 763: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We are go for finishing zone 3 books.

message 764: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments NICE.
That was some fast reading, Mary!

Still not sure if I will now finish one thing tonight, or proceed with the schizophrenic book-switching until tomorrow...

message 765: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I read a large chunk last night. Then I was left alone at the office and had my kindle read it to me.

message 766: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I was hoping round 4 would be available for some planning.

message 767: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Hopefully tomorrow, before the weekend.

And hopefully Krakatoa does not run outta lava and steam during Round 4, what with everyone getting ready for TT :D

message 768: by Alysa (last edited Sep 20, 2019 03:31AM) (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Round 4 tasks are up on the official spreadsheet! I haven’t had a chance to put them up on the planning spreadsheet yet though.

ETA: added for convenience but not properly formatted

Awesome. Thanks for putting it together.

message 770: by Alysa (last edited Sep 20, 2019 11:43AM) (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Yerp, I got the whole thing up.

I also just finished the math for the Safe Zone 3 spell-outs.

Timing-wise, I don't think we should do all three Safe Zones in Round 4.
We won't get the greatest point value by skipping Zone 2, especially, and I'm waiting for confirmation that there is no bonus this time for doing Zone 1, but I think we should just do the Countdown as quick as we can and then just jump straight into Safe Zone 3, no waiting. I think it will be more fun, because we'll be doing more reading instead of waiting (or hunting for brown sh#t).

message 771: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I agree with Alysa.

message 772: by Alysa (last edited Sep 20, 2019 11:51AM) (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments I just put up some good-value spell-out words in the planning sheet (without just a bunch of ONs and INs again!) of that would still get us to 40 books if we don't do the first 2 safe zones.
If it turns out that there's a good bonus for doing Safe Zone 1, and/or the rest of you really wanna do Zone 2 for some reason, we can swap something out.

We'll need to be cautious about which word(s) to leave out if we don't think we're gonna reach 40 though. Like, better to finish one word than be half-finished with 2 words by 7 Oct.

Hard to believe we're entering the home stretch, fellow Krakatoans!!!
How's everyone doing with finishing Round 3?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I am working on some books at the same time but should finish with all my planned. Sorry for the radio silence!

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* wrote: "I am working on some books at the same time but should finish with all my planned. Sorry for the radio silence!"

I think everyone right now is busy with reading, real life, and TT.
:D

I still don't know if I'll be able to squeeze in my Y book, so if anyone else has a short one please take over that spot!
We will need some more Y books for Round 4 anyway.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I will see if i can fit in an extra this weekend, not sure yet. I stayed home sick today so that's giving me a little more time.

message 776: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I also have multiple books going for the spell out.

Feel better Erin!

I will be offline for the next few hours.
Ciao!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Thank you, I'm feeling a bit better now after sleeping like 15 hrs

megan | 1492 comments Think Greece counts as a Mediterranean country? It's on the coast and has plenty of islands in the actual sea.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Oh I don't even know since I got us singed hair with Northern Ireland lol

Yep! It is on the list of countries in the link!

megan | 1492 comments Oh I still have Recursion I can read. Do I read it just to make up for the 10 points or can I read it for a task and have it still count?

message 783: by Alysa (last edited Sep 20, 2019 07:13PM) (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments megan wrote: "Oh I still have Recursion I can read. Do I read it just to make up for the 10 points or can I read it for a task and have it still count?"

You can read it for whatever it fits, so long as it is one of our >/= 40 books, and if you answer at least 3 discussion questions before 2 Oct (when it’s no longer a current BOM) you can get BOM points.

I am planning to read Sorcery of Thorns anyway though, so we don’t actually need *both* of us to do these BOMs if Recursion is not something you’re that excited about reading.

Alysa H. | 3840 comments @megan and Erin:
What do you think about skipping Safe Zones 1 & 2 in the next round, for the reasons I had mentioned? Mary is on board, which makes sense because she is the one with the most timing restrictions coming soon, but we need a majority vote.

It’s been confirmed that the Zone 1 bonus is 80 points, which makes it a better point value than doing only Zone 3, but since we’re not going for the win, I still don’t think we should bother. We’ve got enough Os and Ns to deal with, without worrying about timing. :)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I am fine with skipping.

message 786: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Okay, decision made, mischief managed.

I started Yes, Chef last night, in the hopes that we really can finish all of our Round 3 words. Fingers crossed that it was a good decision!

message 787: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Oh and also, in Round 4, one of the words SPIKY or MOVIE should be planned for *last* in case we don’t have time to finish something.

message 788: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I’m fine with skipping. And still have Os and Ns

message 789: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments My copy of Lost Roses is due at the library on the 30th. So, I’ve added it to the challenge. It works for a lot of letters. Took me forever to get it from the library.

message 790: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I won’t have much computer time today. But getting lots of audio book time in while running wedding related errands. Finished mu I book and well into my N book. I’ll update books as soon as I can. I’ll have time tomorrow for sure.

message 791: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments @Megan -- do you have the right edition linked for Holding Up the Universe? The spreadsheet points to a print version but you have yours shelved as ebook...

message 792: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I read all but maybe 50 pages from the physical book. I downloaded and read those on Libby while waiting at the doctors office. Probably need a mixed media shelf.

I am almost done with Yes Chef, as well as my O book!
It might not be until late tonight, but I will definitely finish both 🙂

message 795: by Mary X (last edited Sep 22, 2019 07:14AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I do the same thing, get books in multiple editions, usually Kindle and audio.

I need an audio book to listen to today while planting shrubs and running some errands-including a grocery run to my daughter's school 45 min away. I might swap out one of remaining spell out books. Never mind forgot that I had Unlocked in audio.

message 796: by Mary X (last edited Sep 22, 2019 07:32AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Yikes. I just realized I have 3 books still on there. I'm going to remove the one I have for N. If no one else fills it, I'll read a short Ebook for it tonight.

message 797: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Finished Unlocked so I added an N book back. Should be a quick listen while I make dinner and do some housework tonight.

I also added a book to the spell out that works for a bunch of letters. So feel free to move it from G if needed.

It's my book club book for next Saturday so I'll have to speed read it once we get into the spell out.

message 798: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Also, my guy is working most of next weekend and I have no plans beyond my book club meeting and bringing my daughter groceries. So I can probably help with more letters.

message 799: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments For Round 4 spell-outs, when our books work for multiple letters, maybe we can put more detail in the notes (author names, character names) so things will be easier to move around if needed...
