gah! Iceland is getting nixed: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... I shall have to find an alternate - it's a bit abuse of powers to try & rabble-rouse support, isn't it? even if I cite wikipedia...
Wow, they're being really technical now.. But that Asgard is not part of Scandinavia is clear since it isn't even an actual place.
Iceland isn't nixed yet... ;-) So just wait and see how it plays out. I'm tempted to tell you to just leave it be and let them sort it out amongst themselves. (Because we all know that Wiki isn't the most reliable source... )

Heheh :-)
I feel better now that I'm not having a 500 page book done by the second day. That was a very odd feeling haha. But, of course, I was on holiday at the time, so lots more reading time.

If my evening is quiet (and the work day allows for a little more sneaky reading) then I should be done with my #3 in series today as well.

I'm around 40% of my arsenic book... I'm not totally convinced.... it reminds me of the Undead series, but with witches...
Just imagine... her magic is an affinity to animals (she can even talk to them) but... for the first 25 years without magic she had severe allergies... animals make her sneeze, cough... and even welts where they touch her.
Done with my #3 :-)
I've now started Tell the Wolves I'm Home, which is very different from House of Night draamaa.

You see the countdown deadline went up?
Friday.... Can we do it?!
I've started the detective with initials in poison.

Aaaaaand I just saw the Countdown. o.O
There is NO WAY I'll be done with this book before the countdown is up. 350 pages of intense reading and fairly small print is a no-go for me. And I've only managed 10 pages on the bus this morning (I fell asleep as I stayed up late yesterday to finish Chosen haha).
I'll see if I can find something shorter on the list that I may somehow have access to here at work (online copies yay) and then dig out my copy at home.
I can also see if I can find something short and quick for published in the 1980s. Then someone else will have to find something on the list.

If Laura needs help with the flowers, since you're still on that big book, I have a quickie kindle freebie that I could read before the deadline.
I'll start hunting for something short for either task 1 or 8 now.

Lord of the Flies!
That one's fairly short and I found a lovely edition to read online - a nicely formatted epub in a pdf doc, which is great. And at home, I'll go hunt down my paperback. This one has also been on my TBR for quite a while so it'll be nice to finally read it.

I'll try to finish my current one quickly. Yesterday I fall asleep when snuggling to read.
I've finished my detective one.
Shall cast my eye over the 1980s...
Found one! and also a possible flower one, in extremis:
- the female dancer has a red flower in her hair ??

It's teensy but yeah that should be a flower in her hair.

Oh? Lemme go look. Thought it was first pub 1984...
Does it have to be the edition read published in the 80s, or just book first published then? I thought the latter, so it would work?

I think we may have confused ourselves on that one because of this question that was asked earlier in the week: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
And the response: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

oh. OK.... I'll have to wait till I get home, dig out an early Pratchett, for which I should have an 80s edition
We probably should have written "first published" rather than "published" to make it simpler. (Sorry..)
That being said, as long as the book, as is and not a variation thereof, was published in the 80s even if your edition was later published, then you're good to use it.
If however the edition you're reading deviates in one form or another from the originally published text (such as published as part of an anthology or an omnibus etc), then you can't use it.
Does that make sense when taking into consideration the ruling that has been given in the Volcanologist thread?

But yeah.... I'm sensing that this will bring issues one way or another, so might be wise to talk this out when making the checks this weekend.
I'd opt for SZ1 first but only because my SZ2 book is a kindle freebie I'd be reading at work and not at home over the weekend ;-)

Clever girl
I finished my book too. Will update the spreadsheet
I'll do my best!
I have to man the reception for an hour before the deadline, so that should be quiet reading time haha. I'll power through whatever pages will be left by then.

Sorry guys :-(
Not going to make it! There isn't all that much left but unfortunately I only have about 5 min before I need to be done and that's just not going to happen *sniff*

Aren't volcanic craters beautiful?
Unfortunately, you are in CRATER and have failed to complete the countdown tasks before our countdown.
This means you have been sprayed with some hot lava and lose 10 points for each book in the countdown stage not completed.

I'll be done with the book today, so might as well use it for SZ1 then!
One of the talkative characters is called "Piggy" or rather he's nicknamed Piggy and so far I haven't received even a hint towards him ever having his real name revealed (though I have a few pages left to read still).

Yes, definitely. I still have This Is How It Always Is lying around as I never got to actually reading the book when we set up the BOM.

Yes, please!
That way I can use this failed Countdown book and don't have to read on a screen over the weekend :-)

I vaguely remember Piggy! We had to read this book in grade 10. (hehe.. that was a few years ago!)
Nice try E.
Thank you ladies :-)
I think we may have been one of the few classes who didn't have to read it. I know some of my friends also had to read this in school but I never did.
