Yay! That means we've finished SZ1 and can move on to reading lots of Os, Ys and Us :-/

Yaay, nice work, ladies! :-)

message 304: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Good morning...

So, since my life is all scattered at the moment, that means my troubles focusing are even more out of control.

That been said, on my list for SF3 are:

Night Walker (U series) - already started and a tiny creepier than my usual vampire books, but it is a surprisingly good book, specially since it's a KU.
To be read:
Outcast - a quick KU reading and all books start with O
Burnt Offerings (Y character) - Anita Blake for the rescue

And yes, Ghost of a Chance (Y author and O character) is officially a drop out. I gave it one hour, and it failed to grab me.

After that, I have a few more Os and Us I can read and I'm pretty sure I can find a few more Ys, if needed be,

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
well, if you read all those we've got ourselves one YOU spell-out at least.

I found a Y in my Player of Games, but Recursion is a bust for useful letters. Pretty much every character's surname starts with S. I ask you?!

message 306: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments That sucks.

message 307: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
That's odd... and sucks for spell-outs haha.

I'm moving along quite nicely in Mistborn, though it is a fairly slow read as there is just so much to take in, but I'm enjoying it so far. Finished part one of it. It has a Y character (and a U character).

This afternoon, I'm going to try and put a dent into my O title book, and will hopefully be done with that by Friday at the very latest.

message 308: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
It's OK for UNO though: Helena plus all those S surnames.

message 309: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Current book I'm reading works for either y or o.

message 310: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Finished my O title and updated the spreadsheet.

I'm beginning to be a little doubtful that I'll finish Mistborn before the deadline. It's a big book! I'll see how it goes for the next couple of days, and if it's taking me too long to move along with it, I'll pick a shorter/quicker read to binge over the weekend.

message 311: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I finished my book last night. I 'll update the s/s now ( as long as no one walks in!)

For Round 3, I took a quick peak at the tasks and without going on the hunt, I could read for one of these Countdown tasks, maybe one or two more even:

10 tagged MPG Crime
8 that was published in the 1980s
6 set in Scandinavia
4 from an author who was NOT born in the USA, Canada or UK
3 that is #3 in a series
1 that is on the Foreign Lands list

I'm not sure what work will be like next week so not sure how much sneaky reading time I will have but some of my choices are fairly short and quick reads, so I'll definitely not take too long with those.

message 313: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments 2, 3,4,5,9,10 interest me. I can start with 5. I've got a few that fit.

message 314: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I finished a U book. Will add to the s/s

message 315: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments If we are doing SZ1 for round 3 I have a book for :
N- past BOM
I- past BOM

I 'll finish a book for this round to fill a "O" to finish off a spell out of YOU. I"ll likely be able to finish at least one more. Anything specific needed?

message 316: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I finished a book that works for I or N. I 'll pick up a short one today and finish off the counterpart to work for a spell out of IN.

I may need someone to add the link for me if I don't get power later this evening.

It hasn't been a good reading weekend for me so I'm not sure I'll be done with Mistborn before the deadline's up, sorry. I'll see how much more I can get read tonight and then there's still tomorrow morning for me, but no guarantee!

message 318: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I have power again! Yeah. Finished a book which completed a spell out of IN. No more books for me this round.

I'll start the 500+ pages task tomorrow at work for round 3

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
Yay for hard-working infrastructure repair team & power :)

I've had a shocker of a reading weekend. I'll be finishing a book shortly, and will take a view on word tetris.

Sonia, will you be finishing a U? Anything?

message 320: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Sorry love. Work was burning when I got here. Finished it on my commute. Spreadsheet updated.

We're all done then :)

message 322: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Ace!

I don't have to rush through the final pages of Mistborn then. I am really, really enjoying the end of part 4 and part 5. What a rush :-D And the feels hahaha

message 323: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Now, that leaves the question of, who is going to read what for the next set of Countdown tasks? Just so I know which book to pick up.

message 324: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
I found a detective with initials in poison, so I can take that one, and probably the MPG Crime too.

message 325: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I'll tackle the non us, Canada or UK one.

I can either read Australian or Portuguese authors.

So pick away. I'm claiming one at a time this round

message 326: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Oops, haven't even looked at SZ1 and SZ2 yet. Will go do that right away.

message 327: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
re the poison logo on cover (SZ3.iii), I found Texas Troubles, which I need a librarian to add the cover for! (https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...)

message 328: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
I have one for that task as well though my poison bottle is a little less visible haha.

message 329: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
I'll claim task 3 for a book that is #3 in the series for the Countdown tasks.

message 330: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
I can definitely also read for at least one of the SZ1 tasks, but apart from the 3rd task in SZ2, I'm having trouble finding something that fits. I'll keep searching but it isn't looking good..

message 331: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Score!!

Found something for SZ2 after all :-D

I can cover task iv with the yellow item and Poison in the author's name.

yay! excellent combing of the TBR there :)

I just did a search of the Texas Troubles book, and would you believe it, with that cover? no mention of poison :( grrrrrr

message 338: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Yep

Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland

message 339: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I'm looking at my yellow covers and see if any author spells dead

message 340: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
I'll also take the 1st task with the Foreign Lands list. I found one on there that I've had on my TBR for a while and only recently finally got a copy of so I've been itching to read it :-)

Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt

message 341: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
Excellent! I skimmed a few pages, but all the books I wanted to read were long, which isn't a great call for avoiding spreading poison!

message 342: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Exactly! I chose two shorter ones this time and Chosen should be quite a quick read if it's anything like the two previous books in the series.

message 343: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
That series annoyed me. It started off with promise and then lost the plot big style (IMO) about 2/3 through. You know: too far in that I was able to stop reading it, but soon enough that I was quietly seething at having to finish!

but: quick reads, like you say :)

message 344: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Eh.. a lot of those series have that issue unfortunately. I'll just space them out more if they start being annoying. But at least now I'm prepared haha, thanks ;-)

message 345: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I'll take the flower task and find something for that

message 346: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hey Laura, how are things?

I saw the damage on the news today, and it looks scary.

message 347: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Hi Sonia,
It was very scary, though the Bahamas was hit harder. Hoping we dont have to go through that anytime again too soon.
Lots of wind and tree damage to businesses and properties throughout our province. There are still many without power. School has been canceled for tomorrow as well as safe clean up measures are taken. I had minimal damage...I had to cut off a broken branch from my lilac.

message 348: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Finished my aussie author book. In one sitting. Will update ss and see what I can read tomorrow

message 349: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Will tackle the arsenic task. And no, is not Cat's finding
