ACID SZ2 options:
Do any of these work? Do we want to skip SZ2?
i - Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder - is Magic written in green?
i - Innocent in Death (In Death, #24) by J.D. Robb
ii - Rubbernecker by Belinda Bauer - Belinda Bauer - bright green cover???
iv - Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie - Ally Condie

i) - no, the writing is gold (I have the physical copy of that edition).
i) - that one could work as those editions are usually quite bright in their colouring and the writing is definitely green
ii) - eeeeh, not bright green for me. Weirdo green that one, not sure I'd call it green?
iv) - definitely green writing, green item (dress!) and a decent read, too.

I do apologise for the crazy cover colours....

yeah.... you are gonna have to find us a bright / neon green cover with BURN in author name... (or I try and get other teams on board with Rubbernecker!)

And possibly do the Mod checks at the end of the round too, as we all know my eyes can't be trusted with colours! ;-P

Right, I've scoured the uno-green tag, and found:
The Cat Who Sniffed Glue (Cat Who..., #8) by Lilian Jackson Braun The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers (Cat Who..., #29) by Lilian Jackson Braun I'm Still Here Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by Austin Channing Brown Sidelined by Suzanne Baltsar Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton

Any of those pass muster? (hint: Cat Who Sniffed Glue is one I don't mind reading...)

The Cat one is also the one I'd consider bright green. Both, actually. The third is more turquoise and the other two are not bright.

I can't find any bright green covers on my shelf. It's annoying haha.

Ok, so if we do ACID SZ2, this is where we are at so far:
i) Read a book with green writing on the cover where the title contains the letters A-C-I-D (doesn't need to be in that order) OPTIONS: Innocent in Death (In Death, #24) by J.D. Robb
ii) Read a book with a bright/neon green cover (>50%) where the author contains the letters B-U-R-N (doesn't need to be in that order) The Cat Who Sniffed Glue (Cat Who..., #8) by Lilian Jackson Braun - Cat
iii) Read a book with something nasty on the cover (open to interpretation) and that contains the word LEMON in the text or title
iv) Read a book with a green item on the cover and that contains the letters A-C-I-D in the author's name (doesn't need to be in that order) Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie - Cat

I'm not that far into the In Death series yet unfortunately.

I'll go hunt for something with green writing on the cover with ACID in title. Nasty can be a lot of things, so that one might be easier.

I'm not either, though I've read out of order for a challenge before, so it's still useful info, and if needs must, I don't mind reading out of order again... #thingsIdo

If you accept flies as nasty little buggers, then I could read this one for the SZ2 task iv:

The Chemistry of Death (David Hunter, #1) by Simon Beckett

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
I accept flies as nasty pieces of work! always buzzing in ears or making you flap your hands to get rid of them! and when they constantly bump into a window..... grrrrr!

message 161: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
And then ignoring you when you shoo them away...

Ok, I can take that one then if we decide to go with SZ2.

If Hunting Evil goes fast, which I'm pretty sure it will, I could also take the black cover task with Ghost Town, which tineye puts at 70+ % black.

We're doing SZ1 as well, right?

Because if so, I'll go hunting through other spreadsheets to see if there's a book option that sparks my interest :-)

I think we are, yes! I'm in for Recursion (the 2 Sep BOM), so I can cover the C - depending on timings of completion of countdown etc

Laura | 9707 comments I will look over the weekend and see what I have or can get access to so I can help fill in the spots for round 2.

FYI, books I will be reading before the end of August include:

And I Darken
The Raven Tower
The Raven Tower

Sadly all are fantasy MPG rather than Science Fiction :(

And I Darken (The Conqueror's Saga, #1) by Kiersten White The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie The Raven Tower by Emma Miles

I've just read an X book, so we've now got SIX completed, and no one else needs to scrape about after an X :)

message 168: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
It's so odd when books have the exact same title!

Yay for the X!

I've put on the Les Mis audio now for a bit, so I'll go hunt through spreadsheets while listening to see if I can find something for SZ1.

If nobody has anything that fits, I can pick up a sci-fi book but then I'm going to have to drop the 400+ pages or the black cover tasks. I don't mind picking up something for either of those tasks, so whatever suits everyone else :-)

message 169: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
Well, the Ann Leckie Raven Tower is black cover, and the other is over 500p, so I could do both those! ;-P

and one of the SRC tasks this season was to read two books with the same title. My least favourite of the tasks, which is why I've left it for last....

message 170: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Understandably!

But ok, cool - I'll leave those two tasks to you then and I'll hunt down a sci-fi book instead :-)

message 171: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Alright, after a quick hunt, I found 8 teams I can read books from for SZ1. One team has the book on the spreadsheet for spell-out but hasn't read it yet, so I'm keeping that one in mind to check at the end of the round if it's been read or replaced just to keep my scribbled notes up to date hehe.

Either way, I have options for future rounds as well if we're going to read SZ1 again.

Laura | 9707 comments thanks for taking the sci- fi task E. That's a genre I don't usually read.

message 174: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
No problem! :-)

There are a few mis-tagged books in that genre as well, so always something to find even if I'm not in a proper sci-fi mood.

You need to give me a B or Y this round! whether that's through Jane or a bad book.

an N would be acceptable too, FYI :)

a 113 page book?
I'm totally sneaking it at work today... And during lunch hour... My testers are not here today, so it's calmer than the past two days... I was so wired yesterday that was unable to focus on anything when I got home. AT ALL.

Is there a particular letter we want??

message 192: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
I or N :)

I'm working down the letters in column D of the planner tab.

We'll use your Y from Sun is Also a Star in BY (with Laura's Other Woman, prob), so we are into spellings of ON & IN for a bit

message 193: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13717 comments Mod
Definitely on the I then. There might be an N somewhere in there as well as I can't remember all the names of the aristocrats, but there might also not be. Definitely an I though since the title starts with that letter.

It Happened One Autumn

I'm confident that I'll be done by the time the countdown finishes even though it's an almost 400 page book. These are always pretty fun and fast reads. In case I won't finish, i.e. if something unplanned happens over the weekend and I'll be out and about all the time, I'll give you a shout early enough.

message 194: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments So, a heads up:

I took a look at the calendar and may have to rethink my SZ1 books. I'm on vacation Wed, Thurs and Friday of next week and will have good reading time but then I 'm away on the weekend and I know I won't get any reading done or very little.
Sept 2, 3, 4 are going to be slower reading days because I will be away and enjoying a few days with my son who I haven't seen in 4 months!
I'll leave my books where they are for the time being as we may finish the countdown quickly this time

message 195: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Current book I'm reading works for "N"

message 197: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Okay so... My bad books streak was rewarding. The book I finished last night works for N, and I.

I'll update ss soon. My mom kept me up till 2 am... Just to wake me up at 8 so I could call 112 (our version of 911)

She's on her way back to the hospital

And since we cannot be there with her where she is going... I'm going to sleep a bit more.

She wasn't ready to go home.... But there was a newcomer to the service with a nasty bacteria they were afraid she would catch that it was safer to send her away. Right. It shows
