Done with my SZ2 book.

whoop!

I have a ton of part read books now! mostly because I wasn't getting on with the first couple I picked up, but also so that I don't finish before we are clear of SZ2 :)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
Hehe, I've been going slow with Exit West as well. I have about 20 pages left to read in that one, which I'll finish off as soon as Sonia is done so we can use it in SZ3.

Aaaand then... I'm not sure yet. SOS Bingo has its first shelf call tonight so my next book choice will happen according to that. Might also just pick up Sapphire Flames first for the Free Space... I'll see :-)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
I decided not to play SOS Bingo this round. Too much stuff going on :(

message 455: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
I never pass up SOS Bingo! :-D
I've been playing since R13, I think, and I just love it because they're my favourite genres (well, minus the odd spin-off or military shelf..) which is to say: fantasy, fantasy, fantasy!

And since Lava is free-ish choice and TT is, too - I can fit it all in well enough. And these are the only team challenges I'm doing lately. NBRC, Uno and SOS Bingo. So... :-)

I think I'm just off the UF-ish books at the moment. Though Peter Grant is back in October?November? soon-ish. Looking forward to that! :)

message 457: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
Peter Grant.... Ben Aaronovitch? I've never read him.

I have my specific series and authors I enjoy reading but I've become a loooot more picky about new books/series I pick up.

message 458: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
Peter Grant is the Rivers of London series, yes. I am a big fan, but I won't try and push them onto you! too many great books too little time: something's gonna have to be dropped, right? And if for you that's Peter G, that's OK!

I've been told repeatedly by sources I can trust that they're good and the covers are very cool. I'm not going to lie, I've had the first book in hand a couple of times but haven't actually taken one home yet. Maybe maybe. It isn't on my TBR as such, but it's somewhere in the back of my mind.

message 460: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
They are very good, it's true :)

I started Sapphire Flames this morning, and ooooooh it's already soooo good :-DDDD

Sonia.... how are you doing on the yellow cover?

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod

oooh! I can do prickly / spiky I think, with The Winter of the Witch (Winternight Trilogy, #3) by Katherine Arden there's prickly spiky holly wrapped around the tree trunks. That'll work, right?

message 466: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
That should work, yes. There's also some branches sticking up that look rather spiky :-)

message 467: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I suspect that I 'll be able to read one more book for this current round. Any preference for an I or N or something else?

message 468: by Laura (new)

Was book 2 good? I haven't gotten to read it yet. Sometimes I find book 2 falls flat in a series.

message 469: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
I think I'll start with the MPG Adventure book - Pegasus by Robin McKinley has been on my TBR shelf for quite a while. Might as well finally read it :-)

It's a little on the bigger side but should hopefully be a quick read.

message 470: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Okay. Finished the book. Updating ss.

Cat, you're free to attack last chapters

Finished Exit West.

message 473: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
Finished 3 books :)

What was Exit West like, E? I really enjoyed the Reluctant Fundamentalist, but haven't seemed to be in the mood for Exit West...

message 474: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
Laura, I enjoyed book 2 in the Bear & Nightingale trilogy, though it was different in feel, and took a bit longer to get into. Definitely worth it!

message 475: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Finished two books!

It was.. odd. It started out alright but then it just descended into a Magical Realism world that was intended to be sort of representative of the current reality, I suppose. I didn't like the main characters (the only two who ever had a name), I couldn't get a feel for them and the storyline just descended into boring as the pages were filled with overly long sentences and nothing really happened.

message 477: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
Oh! I never get on brilliantly with magical realism. The South American version is usually the best bet, but other cultural attempts at it are very hit & miss with me.
I may save that for a time when I am absolutely in the mood for weird!

message 478: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
Finished a couple more books.

Will start looking at word tetris this afternoon, if Laura's not got there already ;P

message 479: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
Finished Sapphire Flames. I'm in love once again. This series is just utterly brilliant. :-D

message 480: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments No, too busy of a day. I have nothing else to add for this round.

message 481: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
I'm done as well.

I've gone through half my current read last night and a few pages on the bus this morning but I'm never going to be done before the deadline since I'm now at work. :-)

message 482: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
I thought I might squeeze one in, but couldn't find one. So I squeezed in some more Les Mis...

message 483: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
I really really should be doing that or I'll never get the book read this year! >.>

message 484: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
Ok, I'm going to read a little Les Mis at work this morning, and once the deadline hits for Round 4 to start, then I'll switch to this wonderful freebie I have lying around about the "Curvy Bear Ranch". The name of the ranch has me in fits hehehehe.

The book is called The Cowbear's Mail Order Bride. My expectations are low *grin*

For SZ2, I can cover either of these two tasks:

iii Read a book with a natural setting on the cover and that contains the word ANIMAL in the text
iv Read a book with a brown item (something that can be touched) on the cover and that contains at least four of the letters of E-C-H-I-D-N-A in the author's name

message 486: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Okay so. Due to the fact my boss told me 'no such nonsense' on my November planned date for the agile test, I have to do it in october.

That means, I'll have to stick at 1 book per week.

Is that okay, or should we ask one of the mods if they want to take over the rest of the challenge?

I'm good with every option

message 487: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
I say we stick with you! If you are OK to do that? We only really need you for the countdown, which is week 1 (depending on when Karen releases the echidnas!) and then you can have a leisurely read for the SZ3, right?

message 488: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Cool.

Sounds good.

Anyway, I'm sad that the Mediterranean ends on the Gibraltar narrow... Because I would have the perfect Portuguese book to fit in there.

I'll check if Eragon is tagged as dark fantasy, if yes, I'll read that one for towers. And read the zafon one. We'll see.

Meaning I'll tackle the Mediterranean task.

I promised myself no re-reads, no matter how much I miss red dirt and how it would fit the ranch task.

message 489: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
I think E's snagged the ranch task from you already! ;-P

Hahah, I haven't started it yet and always willing to switch :-)

I was indeed wondering if Sonia wanted to go with Red Dirt for that one but was pretty sure she'd already read all of them.

And since you've now said no re-reads - I saved you from that ;-))

message 491: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Ahahahah. Yeah. I'll probably save them for towers, since they're quick lusty reads and first week will be pretty hard on me, since it's the week before the exam.

message 492: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
Better to save them for Towers indeed :-)

message 493: by Sonia (new)

Yep! I'd say so. First published on the 4th, and most editions are published then. Odd that the hardcover of all editions was published later?!
