Chris Dietzel (chrisdietzel) I just bought a copy of Fahrenheit 451, signed by Ray Bradbury, for a whopping $1.50. It made my day. (found it on the shelf at the local Goodwill store, mixed in with all the other books)

I went to sell 3 smallish boxes of books at Half Price Books and, no surprise, walked out with 3...books, not boxes!
Warbreaker (Warbreaker, #1) by Brandon Sanderson , Great North Road by Peter F. Hamilton , and The White Luck Warrior (Aspect-Emperor, #2) by R. Scott Bakker

Yeah, about three years ago around Halloween I found three signed books back in October of 1989 by Ray Bradbury in an random bin at my local library for $0.10. They were bought brand new at the time of the signing. I did not know they were signed until I bought them home and started to read them. The books were The Martian Chronicles, The Illustrated Man, and Something Wicked This Way Comes.

That's awesome, Kevin. Great find. I always wonder what kind of journey an autographed book must take to end up on a discount shelf like that. Lucky for you and I, though, that they do.

Babayaga
Feeding the Monster: How Money, Smarts, and Nerve Took a Team to the Top
This one is funny, I order it from a local bookstore back on May 7th. Kept inquiring and they assured me that its coming. Realised two weeks ago they were waiting for the out of print hard cover. When I pointed out that I knew that and will need it. They re ordered it as a paperback and 3 days later I had the book.

Thanks, Maggie. I keep a list (one of many) of books I'm "looking for" and then, when I'm at a used book store or shopping a sale like this, I can go down my list and see if they have what I'm looking for and if I want to pay that price. Of course, I usually also just browse when I'm at a bricks & mortar store, which generally leads to more purchases and more things to add to my list. There are still about 30 books on that list...

Michael Gear Tetrarch A Tale Of The Three Worlds (The Well of Echoes, #2) by Ian Irvine Stormlord's Exile (Watergivers #3) by Glenda Larke and I, Alex Cross (Alex Cross, #16) by James Patterson

I do the same thing. It actually saves me from buying books on a whim. I take a picture or write it down and if it still interests me it goes on the list. Then I keep an eye out for it. Most books never make the cut

With all the said, I picked up a couple of books

Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for Bin Laden--from 9/11 to Abbottabad
The Boys of Summer
Great Expectations: The Lost Toronto Blue Jays Season

message 1137: by Marvis (new)

Marvis | 9 comments My current job - the noble job of sorting trash from waste paper - has landed me the odd sci fi or fantasy title.
For books marked with an asterisk, I found a translated - into Dutch - edition.
Bold-printed titles I have already read. What say you of the ones I have not yet read?

Fantasy:
Covenants by Lorna Freeman
Dragonquest* by Anne McCaffrey
Perdido Street Station * by China Miéville
The Book of the Dead* by Tanith Lee
The Diviner by Melanie Rawn
The Illuminatus! Trilogy: The Eye in the Pyramid/The Golden Apple/Leviathan by Robert Shea and Robert A. Wilson
The Opal Deception by Eoin Colfer

Science Fiction:
A Gift from Earth* by Larry Niven
Circuit Breaker by Melinda M. Snodgrass
De dag van Aldebaran by Felix Thijsen
Dune * by Frank Herbert
Makers by Cory Doctorow
The Algebraist by Iain M. Banks
The Gap Into Vision: Forbidden Knowledge by Stephen Donaldson
The Planet Explorer* by Murray Leinster
Wyst: Alastor 1716* by Jack Vance

I did not care for Tanith Lee's The Book of the Dead, but I didn't liked the couple books I've read by that author and so I've avoided any other books.

Stephen Donaldson's SF Gap series made my brain hurt but I'm glad I read them.

I like most of Anne McCaffrey's Pern books (of which Dragonquest is one), and I've also liked the books I've read by Melanie Rawn, although I have not read The Diviner.

Looks like quite a good haul!!

The Kingdom and the Power: The Story of the Men Who Influence the Institution That Influences the World- The New York Times

Interesting title for a book bought in the basement of a church. BTW, this book was on my list of books I was keeping an eye out for.

Oh, boy, I went nuts today at Half Price Books and then online at Better World Books.

At the store, I also picked up the Manifold series by Stephen Baxter, the Tears of Artamon series by Sarah Ash, a Kage Baker book I didn't have (but not a Company book), the Kingdom of the Serpent trilogy by Mark Chadbourn, a trilogy by Deborah Chester, the Void trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton, 2 omnibus editions (Kingmaker, Kingbreaker and Godspeaker) by Karen Miller, and a Tim Powers, Hide Me Among the Graves.

Online I ordered:
Bearers of the Black Staff: Legends of Shannara
City of Dragons (Rain Wilds Chronicles)
A Fortress of Grey Ice: Book Two of Sword of Shadows
Watcher of the Dead (Sword of Shadows)
A Sword from Red Ice (Sword of Shadows, Book 3)
River of Stars
Ordermaster (Saga of Recluce)
Redoubt: Book Four of the Collegium Chronicles (A Valdemar Novel)
Arms-Commander (Saga of Recluce)
Surface Detail (Culture Novels)
The Wild Road: Book Three of Karavans

Yep, color me happy!
