Collecting Dust October 2014 Challenge

I think MK is still enjoying her sabbatical, so I will get October's Collecting Dust Challenge started.

Remember, this is a monthly challenge for those readers who have unread books on the TBR collecting dust.

This challenge will help you get to the books yu want to read but just keep putting off.

If you want to participate then from your TBR bookshelf list 5 books that you would like to read in the month of October. The next person who comments will pick two choices from your list. You are only obligated to read 1 of the books chosen, but you may want to read both. Once you have read it, let us know and you may add your review or link to your review.

Rules:
1. If you want to participate, please sign up (list your five books) by September 30th.

2. Choose two books from the person's list that commented before you. First person to list 5 books is the person who picks two books for the last person of the month. (I'll remind you)

3. You have the entire month to read your selections and post your thoughts. No pressure all the past months this year are still open for comments.

Yes, if you choose to participate you choose two books from Pigletto's list of five if you are the next player. Then you list 5 of the books on your TBR you have been wanting to read but keep putting off. The next player picks two book from your list for you to read in October. Remember you don't have to read both books, one is good for the challenge.

I read Speak. I believe it is fast becoming a contemporary classic as it is now taught in a lot of high schools.
I read it from the eyes of a parent. Made me want to be more cognizant of my child's behavior than Melinda's parents were of hers. She had so many changes in her behavior that were unnoticed by so many.
I really related to Rachel and her arguments about symbolism in the The Scarlet Letter. I totally remember having those exact same feelings about my English teacher.

Finished both my October reads.

Echoes from the Dead, is classic scandinavian crime. Seems to me like Johan Theorin has been inspired by swedish crime queen Camilla Läckberg. This novel has much the same 'feeling' as her books. Looking forward to reading his other novels.

The Zookeeper's Wife: A War Story is quite a different read, as it is non-fiction. I have read quite a lot of fiction centered around WWII, and off course know a lot about how WWII affected Denmark and especially the Island of Bornholm where I grew up. This book gave me alot of insight into how WWII affected Poland and certainly the Warsaw Zoo.

Ghost Road Blues was terrible. I slogged through 100 pages and gave up. It's not that the story was that bad, it was the writing. An author can improve dramatically between books, but they never do so between page 100 and page 472.

So I read (finally) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I'm so glad that this was picked for my challenge. I've been wanting to read it for so long and it is such a beautiful book. I knew it would be sad but I didn't know it would be heartbreaking. It was really an amazing book. Thank you Julie for picking it for me :)

I finished Rosemary's Baby, chosen for me by Haley. Thanks for the great choice! I really enjoyed it!! I do like horror/creepy novels and I always real people creepier than the boogeyman/paranormal. So a whole apartment building full of creepy devil worshippers??? GAH. Loved it.

It seems to be that I won't be finishing either one of the books chosen for me this month. I've started them both, but I seem to have the mood of "not interested in reading anything that much" (happens to me from time to time, as I read way too much).

Numbers in the Dark and Othe Stories seems to be an interesting read, but Gun, With Occassional Music is a bit too absurd for me at this moment. I will finish them at later time (maybe in November), though, so I'm not abandoning them :)

Happens to me, too. Recently I read over 400 pages in a week, and then less than 100 in the next two. (Yes, I have a Excel spreadsheet for counting pages, I like numbers and statistics.)

I am thinking of taking part in that November Reading Challenge (#lukuhaaste), 30 pages of fiction EVERY day. It's not that much, really (though I guess 900 pages per month is more than the majority of people read), but I usually read more at a time and not every day.

Well I finally finished my book for this challenge and just in the nick of time too :-)

Dragon Prince was really good and engaging. An interesting storyline that wasn't the same traditional fantasy story that many other books have. I do think, however, that the writing style definitely had a flare for the dramatic which sometimes felt too forced and fake, but overall I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy novels.

I'm a third through The Handmaid's Tale and while I doubt I'll finish it in the next few hours I'm really enjoying it!
