Richard Whitten Barnes was born in Minnesota but grew up on the north side of Chicago. A music scholarship took him to Michigan State University, where he majored in chemistry. He is now retired from a long career in international chemical sales and marketing, which has taken him all over the world. Barnes is a veteran in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division and an avid sailor. He lives in Lake Wylie, S.C., but spends summers with his wife Marg and dog Sparty at their cottage on St. Joseph Island, Ontario.

The method that is best for me is to talk it out. I think better when I verbalize a problem, so the mere act of explaining it to someone else clarifies it to the extent I find my own solution.

A very good plot idea. That kept my interest, but a good deal of tedious dialogue that slowed the pace.
The author did a lot of research to give life to the venues. Certainly worth a read.

Richard Barnes The Rising Tide: A Novel of World War II
The First of Jeff Shaara's Trilogy on WWII in Europe. Written as if the major players -- Eisenhower, Marshall, Roosevelt, Churchill, etc. were being quoted. This makes the series quite readable. Lots of research to make you feel you've learned something, a well.
Thes first one of the three deals with Africa and the invasion of Italy.
