I’ve gotten the Space 1999 stuff, which has been quite good. The UFO stuff hadn’t worked for me though.
Rick wrote: "I’ve gotten the Space 1999 stuff, which has been quite good. The UFO stuff hadn’t worked for me though."UFO is an odd show and I can see it being hard to continue, as the continuity is a mess.
I think it is more beloved for its look and cast, than its writing.
It was the Torchwood of the 70's.
Rick wrote: "Certainly a fair assessment."I like the show, but it's a mess.
Really curious what might have happened if they'd gotten a season 2.
Space 1999 started out as UFO season 2 - but development changed radically when UFO didn’t get renewed.

Someone online mentioned that the only show that comes close to Doctor Who's record is Scooby Doo.And now I want a team up.
You could do it with any Doctor from 3 on.
Or all of them.

Velma and 15 as a team up? Sign me up.

I was thinking Ace would love hanging out with the Scooby kids.
It was Free comic book day and it looks like Doctor Who didn't have an issue this year or my shop didn't save me one.Either way, bummer.
Travis wrote: "To all that celebrate: May the Fourth be with you!"I celebrated yesterday by going to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail on the big screen.

Seems fair.
You can never have too much Star Wars.
Does the UNIT and/or Sea devils project have a release date?Feels like some stuff in Lucky Day was intended as set up.

And, yes, I got that impression as well.

Big Finish announced the opening of the 10th year of the new writer competition. This year they’re specifically looking for a 13th Doctor and Yaz story. https://www.bigfinish.com/news/v/tent...

Hoping to get my act together and submit something this year.

Good luck.
You got this.
Knock ‘em dead.
Bon chance."
Just checked out the guidelines: I can use any 13th Doctor companions!
I can write a Graham/Doctor story!
Cool.
Don't know how many comic readers are here, but I need to grumble:The constant ending a series and then immediately restarting it with a new #1 issue makes me crazy.
Just saw an announcement that a series I love is ending with issue #25, only to have a friend tell me it's restarting in august with the same creative team!
2025 is rough!
Stop playing with my emotions like that
Unfortunately the comic book publishers realized in the late 70s that issue #1s sell disproportionately more copies than anything else. And it only got worse in the 80s with the rise of comic book specialty stores. There was the explosion of the mini-series to capitalize on this purchasing phenomenon, irritating me personally as it meant the permanent demise of the rotating feature titles like Marvel Premiere and Marvel Spotlight. The speculative market seemed to reach its lowest depths with the 90s and the multi-cover, bagged with exclusive cards, and special material cover insanity of the 90s. But then came the constant hard or soft REBOOTS to get new readers interested. And I gave up shortly thereafter. A few titles I was still enough hard core to keep up on, Fantastic Four, Indiana Jones, Doc Savage, Farscape, Elfquest, Doctor Who, but those have all eventually dropped off as well as trade paperback collections have consumed the market place. But that’s another story.

My long winded way of saying: I hear ya.
I don't mind everything getting a TPB collection, as there are some series on my wish list that I could never afford otherwise.DC and marvel's greed means that I own complete runs on some series I had no chance of collecting all the single issues.
My gripe about trades isn’t that they publish them, it’s that they have them written specifically for collection publication now. Gone of single issue stories or a story that spans a number of issues other than 4 or 6 of 12, along with the constant renumbering of series. It’s the same thing as “killing off” a major character, and then just bringing them back a couple issues later. Boring. Uninspired. Zero creativity. There aren’t new stories anymore, it’s just marketing and retelling the same stories again and again.
Yeah, don't love 'writing for the trade' or it's brother 'I hope the MCU picks this story'I mostly enjoy when a character gets attention in the comics or movies and then they immediately release a trade of their early, hard to get appearances to cash in.
That part I do like.

I've picked up the occasional issue of MoKF, but never got around to sitting down to read the whole thing.
Someday.
The comic is absolutely NOTHING like the film. It’s basically a rift on or mashup of James Bond and Bruce Lee. In the comic, Shang Chi’s father is The Insidious Dr. Fu Manchu, but the character was still under copyright at the time. The Fu Manchu connection has since been retconned away. There’s also a lot of offensive racist stereotypes that come with Fu Manchu, that’s undeniable.

I prefer the stoic one of the comic.
Bugs me that the comics has started writing him as the movie version, as classic Shang plays great off of other super heroes.
I like the issues I have but feel I need to sit down and read the whole saga.
Love the movie and that the character is interesting and updated. I've looked at the classic comics and they're just too much like Bruce Lee for my tastes. Too each their own though.
Lori S. wrote: "Love the movie and that the character is interesting and updated. I've looked at the classic comics and they're just too much like Bruce Lee for my tastes. Too each their own though."It is very period piece, like reading the original Bond novels.
This is very true. I LOVED the comics as a kid. I still enjoy them, but I can see the dated nature of the characterization, the stereotypes, and the racism (some intentional, some unintentional). And yes, it is pretty obvious that he was patterned off Bruce Lee. The film is a completely separate character. You can’t even really compare them. The movie had magic, the comic doesn’t. The film wisely chose NOT to try and use Fu Manchu or some other variant of the “yellow peril” threat from Marvel like Yellow Claw or the original comic concept of the Mandarin. I mean, how many stereotypical Chinese arch villains did Marvel comics need? The Yellow Claw was already Marvel’s answer to Fu Manchu, and their way of getting around paying royalties, but then they added the Mandarin, and then actually used Fu Manchu, and paid for it when they already had the Yellow Claw and/or the Mandarin they could have used. It’s all so ridiculous.

He's still a composite of marvel's yellow peril characters, but he's a modern version.
They kept the basic stuff, scraped off the bad bits and actually got an Asian actor to play him.
One of my only grumbles about the movie is that the stuff between Shang and his dad is so good, I actually got annoyed when the dragon showed up.
