I would love one as well. This one only has the first issue of OMAC, with the first of Kamandi and the Demon. But it just sounded gorgeous and the price was right.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments So, apparently the BF Space:1999 series is keeping the idea that the show was originally going to be UFO season 3 and is hinting that Alpha will encounter the UFO alien world...!

That's just not fair!
I do not have the money/shelf space to get into BF!

They are certainly hinting that there was some kind of contact with extraterrestrials prior to the moon being whisked away. Perhaps even that aliens may have been partially responsible for the moon being torn from earth’s orbit? We’ll have to see how it develops. 😸

I’ve just come to realize how much I’ve been spending lately and I’m truly frightened. I’ve been trying to only buy stuff on sale, but because they’ve been running so many great sales lately, I’ve had a hard time resisting. I’ve put any more purchases on moratorium for the foreseeable future. Now, I’m gonna concentrate on getting caught up on the stuff I’ve already got.

The problem is the stuff is so good. Totally professional quality and some spectacular performances from the casts. There have been the occasional clunker (unfortunately like the one I just listened to Slight Glimpses of Tomorrow), but generally I’ve been extremely pleased with the product.

I made a mistake, I misread the notice. It’s only a sale on the first 100 releases in the range. Still the releases include either Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy or Paul McGann as the Doctor, and include actors reprising their roles as companions from the TV show or brand new companions for the audio adventures. They had been listed at $2.99, but now they’re on sale for $1.49 each. Hmm, when’s payday?

I’m seeing the Sixth Doctor accidentally appearing on a film set and then the Marx Brothers forcing their way aboard after the Doctor pops his head out. I can see the Marx Brothers getting into the TARDIS and start randomly pressing buttons and pulling levels. But the TARDIS then appears at some incredibly inappropriate place for the Marx Brothers ... like a funeral for some head of state ... or maybe some highly “fixed point in time” and then wild shenanigans ensue and the Doctor does nothing but try and corral the Marx Brothers and get his coat back.

Love the Web of fear!
Such a great story and a near precursor of Who's future.
Big fan of the Yeti stories, though I only know the first one from the Target novel.

Have notes for a story where the great intelligence is operating in the USA and the Yetis are mistaken for Bigfoot.

Weird thing is, it's not a team up.
The Marx Brothers are the Tardis crew.
No idea how or why, but my brain just decided they were and the snippets of dialogue imply it's their Tardis and they have been traveling together awhile.

There's even the beginning of a very Who plot, involving a lost colony ship and some robots.

My brain really went to town on this one.
Probably the deviled eggs I had before going to bed.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments Back to thew massive rewatch:

Invasion of time: One of my all time favorites. Love this story so much and it is still amazing.
So much good stuff: great look at Galifry, great acting from Tom, K-9 gets to do a lot, great bad guys and the grand finale has to be seen to be believed.

Sad, as it's the end of the Leela and K-9 era, but such a good story for the grand finale.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments More Invasion of time babbling:

Don't care what anyone says, I love the chase through the Tardis.

Much as the new series treats them like comic relief, the Sontarions were the first ones to invade Galifry.

Feels like they were setting up for Rodan( the time lady, not the Japanese monster ) to be the next companion, or at very least, she inspired Romana.
Wonder if they offered it to the actress?

I love that last scene.

message 625: by Rick (new)

Rick | 2260 comments Just finished Fury From the Deep and while I didn’t enjoy it as much as I’d thought I might, it was wonderful. I can see how they would have had a LOT of challenges animating this one as there lots of sequences throughout all six episodes that had long sequences without any dialogue or without any commentary as to what the environment was like, even scene changes without comment from the actors. But then as you’d theoretically see the changes why would they stop to describe it. Still, there was more foam than you could ever hope for. Victoria saves the day. A companion leaves the TARDIS. The first appearance of the sonic screwdriver. The Doctor flies a helicopter. And the chase across the sea in a helicopter while being attacked by giant seaweed - I can’t even imagine what that would have looked like originally. This story does start out a little slow, but it picks up and the last episode is all but non-stop action. And I LOVED the “wanted criminal” signs peppered throughout the episodes. Such a fun egg for fans to enjoy.

Rick | 2260 comments I also started the I, Davros: The Complete Series from Big Finish. I’m already enjoying it enormously.

Rick | 2260 comments I took a couple side steps and started The Worlds of Big Finish and when I, rather unexpectedly, zipped right through that I started The Confessions of Dorian Gray: Series 4. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the anthology mash-up crossover Worlds of Big Finish. I wasn’t really expecting it to be as entertaining as it was.

Yeah, John Barrowman got caught up in it too, but at least he’d apologized for his behavior and corrected his antics more of less when it happened. And that just sounds like he was just being overly exuberant self and just toned things down. But Clarke has sounded unrepentant in what what little responses have been given. And when you add in the stuff that Christopher Eccleston has alluded to the environment of that first year of production ... jeez, what was going on in Cardiff that year? 🙀

I’ve just started watching Downton Abbey again. I’d gotten through the first 3 seasons, but just couldn’t stomach more than an episode or 2 after the tragic ending of series 3. But after some time away, I feel like I could continue. I restarted series 4 and I’m able to continue now. Maggie Smith is a national treasure.

Yeah, bothered by people trying to defend Noel by throwing Barrowman under the bus.
Especially because, everyone knows Barrowman's sense of humor can get a tiny bit inappropriate and he has long since apologized to anyone he made feel uncomfortable.
Plus, the guy's practically a national treasure, so Noel looks even scummier trying to use Barrowman as a human shield.

Love Maggie Smith and deeply amused that at the same time Game of thrones and breaking bad were a big deal, so was a quaint historical British show.

To be honest, I never thought it was anything I’d be interested in. I’d seen an episode or two of Upstairs Downstairs back in the day and then that film Gosford Park with Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon, Stephen Fry and ... ah hmm ... Ryan Phillippe. But I just didn’t think it was my type of thing. But over the pandemic shutdown last year, I was looking for something to watch and I just happened to check in a copy of both Series 1 and 2 of Downton Abbey (people kept returning things in the night drop even though the library wasn’t open and we sent out a notice that all due dates were suspended until further notice). And I just thought: oh what the hell, I’m bored enough as it is, why not see what everyone’s clamoring about. I was hooked by the end of series 1 and by the middle of series 3, I’d ordered myself a copy of the complete series on disc. The price was too good to pass up and at the time I couldn’t guarantee when the copy of series 4 that the library had would ever show up again. But then the horrible tragedy at the end of series 3 happened, and I just couldn’t stomach just charging ahead right away. I just needed some time away to remind me that these were only characters. Kind of like the last episode of season 3 of M*A*S*H (view spoiler) I definitely needed the summer hiatus to recover after that episode shocker. My parents almost wouldn’t let me watch it anymore because I was so upset. Meaning M*A*S*H, Downton Abbey.

Invasion of Time is one of my favorite 4th Doctor stories. Though the Leela - Andred 'romance' comes from out of no where, the resulting alliance between Leela and Romana is worth it in the end.

Fury from the Deep - gotta agree. Those long sequences really drag an otherwise interesting story to a bit of a standstill.

Downton Abby - I need to see this. I have watched Upstairs, Downstairs though. Quite good.

Noah Clark. Sigh Why? Gah.

M*A*S*H - Agreed Rick, though I think when that episode originally happened, I was still a little too young to watch the series. What affected me was the ending of the series and Hawkeye's breakdown and the reason for that.

John Barrowman - I've not had that honor, but I'm sure I would be completely tongue tied, just like I am when I get to meet a favorite author ...

rewatching Invasion of time, I can see where they tried to hint at a Leela/Andred relationship, but in such a busy story, it got buried.

add it to my infinite list of potential Who spin offs, the wacky, cosmic domestic shenanigans of Andred and Leela and their dog.

Noel Clark is deeply disappointing. Every time one of these stories comes out, it chips away another tiny bit of my soul.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments watching for Who actors that have also appeared on the Prisoner, I had the thought: Number 2 was constantly bering replaced, so my weird, fanfic-ish thought, was every number two being played by an actor who had been the Doctor.

A battle of wills between Patrick Mcgoohan and Tom Baker or Patrick Troughton would have been amazing.

Imagining a firefly type show, but where the crew has to deal with Daleks, Movelions and Ogrons.

While, I love a good Doctor vs Daleks story, as actors age out of roles, I'd like to see side stories to fill in empty spaces in Who-history.
