I finished listening to The Sentence is Death and thought it was okay, but I think I am done with the series. I enjoyed his Magpie Murders way more.

Kris, I admire your ability to abandon a series when you know you had enough. My stubbornness has me keeping too many on my shelf that, deep down, I know I’ll never resume.

Awww, I know what you mean. It's such a hard decision. With my crazy TBR list I have to be more ruthless lol. I have gone back to authors I said I would not....so will power is not my strong suit.

I am happy to hear you finished it before book club, and enjoyed. Great review. I saw Susan Orlean at a book reading, while she was a great speaker about her book, when she read from it, it wasn't the best. I am glad I read this one instead of audio.

It's been awhile since I posted, but these are just the ones I read over the last several days.

I finished listening to:

Stolen Things 3.5 STARS - a quick easy read, but at times I found the two main characters (mother and daughter) a bit annoying.

The Chestnut Man 2 STARS - soooo slooow moving. It is a long book where suspense gets lost.

Careful What You Wish For 3.5 STARS - an interesting concept with an easy ending. It was a read that kept me going.

The Escape Room 4 STARS - I expected this to be a horror movie-esque novel, but it is a great suspense book that you can figure out but the journey is great!

Lady in the Lake 4.5 STARS - I started this novel and thought it would be one that took me a few days to get through, but I just soared through putting other things aside to finish. It had the feeling of Karin Slaughter's Cop Town



and reading:
The Know-It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World 2 STARS - I had such high expectations for this one, but it didn't work for me. The humour, writing and structure really brought down a cool concept.

How to Love a Duke in Ten Days 4 STARS - more than just a historical romance - it takes on heavy issues like rape and doesn't romanticize it.

I finished listing to:
-The Hating Game - 2.5 STARS rounded up to a 3 - it took me a long time to warm up to the story, characters and the chemistry/romance. It was the last 1/4 that I enjoyed the best. I will try one more novel by the author
-A Keeper - 4 stars - loved this story set in contemporary and 1970s, Ireland. I loved the characters and the way the story unfolded. Norton also does an amazing job narrating his novel. He really brought it to life. Highly recommended.
-My Favorite Half-Night Stand -3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars - a fun rom-com! I liked the characters and the chemistry between the friends as much as the romance. I am down for Christina Lauren's standalone rom-coms.

I finish reading:
-Badlands - 4 stars - this was the final book in the Sawbones trilogy and I really enjoyed it. I do wish there was an epilogue as I would have liked to see how their everyday life went. I almost want another book, but I am not sure Laura or William could take anymore in their life.
-Murder at Archly Manor - 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars & Murder at Blackburn Hall - 4 stars - I enjoyed the first book, but did have a few things that did not work. The second book moved towards addressing those issues and I enjoyed it even more. The second book left you with a preview of the next mystery! (I also enjoyed the author's note in the back of both books).



I am now listening to Under Currents and reading The Whisper Man and The Butterfly Conspiracy.
