Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Kushiel is also back in the mix with 18 votes! This is getting exciting! :D

message 252: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1777 comments current top 6. I'm impressed Kushiel pulled itself back up when it seemed like voters had reconsidered things, and I also note that the voters (except for the Pratchett fans) are a bunch of masochists.

26 Dune (604)
20 The Black Prism (629)
20 Perdido Street Station (623)
19 The Color of Magic (228)
19 Red Mars (572)
19 Kushiel's Dart (1015)

message 253: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments Arrgh! I really wanted to read Sabriel (it’s the only book in the top 6 that I have not read and already own. Black Prism I don’t own). I really DON’T want to read Kushiel.

House Governance Methodology of Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs: An Inside Look at the Need for Ranked Choice Voting in Consensus-Based Communities.

In this treatise I will...

message 258: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments Haha!! 🤣 I voted for everything I thought I’d be interested in (re)reading, based on whether I currently have it on my shelves. Therefore, I can only watch with hope that the ones that make it to the top 6 are among them.

message 259: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Sabriel is at 24! :D
The three books currently fighting for the last spot are:

19 Hyperion (483)
19 Kushiel's Dart (1015)

message 265: by Bobby (new)

Bobby | 869 comments how do we determine a tie breaker if we still have 3 or 4 with the same number of votes?

message 266: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1230 comments Diane wrote: "No no no! Quick! somebody vote for Red Mars!!"

I unvoted Hyperion which should be the same thing.

message 267: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments Bobby wrote: "how do we determine a tie breaker if we still have 3 or 4 with the same number of votes?"

Number of pages. ;)

message 268: by Kaa (new)

Kaa | 1543 comments I vote for Beth's tie-breaker!

message 269: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1405 comments I guess it’s good that I don’t have to fit more books into my reading schedule 🤷‍♀️

message 270: by Anna (last edited May 25, 2019 02:27AM) (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Final results:

26 Dune (604)
24 Sabriel (491)
21 Perdido Street Station (623)
20 The Black Prism (629)
20 Kushiel's Dart (1015)
20 Red Mars (572)

Come talk about the reading schedule in the BR thread.

message 271: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments That’s awesome! There’s only one book I’m not at all interested in (Kushiel’s Dart) and only one which is brand new to me (Black Prism, which I already bought in anticipation). I will try to reread the others, but I may just skim to refresh and join in the conversation anyway.

message 272: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments Oops! Two that are new to me: Black Prism and Sabriel (which I already had on my shelf). If we can avoid doing those 2 in the same month, I’ll be very happy! Although, Black Prism is an audiobook, so I *could* read them in the same month.

message 273: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm glad the one that I'm most interested in is the shortest.... ;)
But so long as I have notice, I'll consider any at any time.

message 274: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments It's kind of funny how big the average page count is the time around. (Good bringing it down there, Sabriel!) I voted for four of these, so it's gonna be tight regardless of how they're arranged.

message 275: by Ethelinda (new)

Ethelinda Webb (ethelindawebb) | 20 comments I've heard about Sabriel for a long time, but never read it. Seems like a good time to try! And I was thinking of possibly re-reading Kushiel's Dart, so that I would remember well enough to give the rest of the series a try as well.

message 276: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments This is our reread schedule for July-September:

July 15:
Dune (604)
Perdido Street Station (623)

August 15:
Sabriel (491)
Kushiel's Dart (1015)

September 15:
The Black Prism (629)
Red Mars (572)

message 277: by Dawn F (new)

Kateb | 959 comments don't know which thread to put this on but I just know I will have people on here that will understand
We had a terrific storm, tore the skylight off the roof, lots of rain and my book cupboard was drenched. I had a collection of about 700 favs
I had reduced the books last year to just the ones I want to re read, now I am throwing out books that were in as new condition before this.
aaaahhhhh its like cutting an arm off as I throw each one in the bin

My city flooded a few years ago and we had the same problem. It's heartbreaking. I am really sorry, that sucks

message 282: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3168 comments Aw Kate that’s awful- I’m so sorry.

On the bright side- you get to start a new collection?

Still 700 is a lot. Are they all damaged?

message 283: by Kateb (last edited May 30, 2019 04:58PM) (new)

Kateb | 959 comments no, not all are damaged, the annoying thing is that the older books are damaged, I went on line to see if I could replace them and many are out of print. eg John Wyndam: the chrysalids

I will keep looking for them, but to replace all of those books will be more than the insurance will cover. I had the complete set of Issac Asimov's books, all Arthur c Clarke, all Scott Orson Card. all gone. More modern books were at the other end of the cupboard

thanks for the kind word , it is needed. I belong to a family of no readers so their expression of sorrow is a bit glazed

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
i'm so sorry Kate! when you figure out what you cannot replace, you should make a post here, maybe some folks could help you out! sending thoughts and wishes for good book sales!

message 285: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1405 comments Ah yes last year we had a big expensive flood from a bust pipe - one of my few bright spots was how few of my total book collection had to be tossed. But moldy books are the saddest thing .....

message 286: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1230 comments Always looking for the silver lining but part of the fun for me with books is searching for them. Now maybe you have an excuse to go to all those library sales and what Allison says.

message 287: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6118 comments you might consider getting some of them in digital format as they're usually able to be downloaded at any time.

message 292: by YouKneeK (new)

YouKneeK | 1412 comments I will be, although not for a few days. I’m reading this month’s group picks first.

message 293: by Lesley (new)

Lesley (lesleyy) | 193 comments Similar question, anyone planning on reading Perdido Street Station? I’m on the fence right now, but I’ll jump in if others are.

I bought it in a sale some months ago, so I should read it, but I'm not sure I can keep to the schedule.

message 295: by Anthony (new)

Anthony (albinokid) | 1478 comments I’ll be reading Perdido. I read Dune a few years ago so I won’t be rereading that now.

Lesley (lesleyy) | 193 comments Anthony wrote: "I’ll be reading Perdido. I read Dune a few years ago so I won’t be rereading that now."

Great, then I’ll definitely plan to read Perdido, and I’ll probaby start pretty close to the 15th. Gabi, you should join in whenever you can fit it in!

message 297: by Tomas (new)

Tomas Grizzly | 448 comments Can anyone give me a working ASIN for the Black Prism Kindle edition? I've tried a few times already and Amazon still gives me the 'title not available for purchase' instead of 'buy'.

message 298: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Tomas wrote: "Can anyone give me a working ASIN for the Black Prism Kindle edition?"

This one works for me, but we're not in the same country so who knows if it helps you: The Black Prism

message 299: by Tomas (new)

Tomas Grizzly | 448 comments Anna wrote: "This one works for me, but we're not in the same country so who knows if it helps you."

It seems to work, at least now. Let's hope it stays for when the time comes.
Thanks.

message 300: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments I would really love to reread Perdido, but I won’t be able to until later this month into August. The end of the school year here is crazy busy, but then my son is going to Italy to be with the Nonni, so I’ll have lots of free time to read! Yay!!!
