Heather Porter | 29 comments Good Morning!!

Hi Helen!!! Anything scary is what I love!!! There is nothing better than being in your living room, lights off, scary movie playing, and being scared to let your feet touch the ground! I have always been that person that would rather watch a scary movie than anything else! I have to agree that Stephen King is amazing! My favorite book by him would have to be The Long Walk. I also really enjoyed Rage. IT is definitely one of my favorites as well. I read a lot of King when I was younger, and I would read it out loud to my 7 year old brother to get him to go to sleep ;) My sons middle name is Gage, after Gage Creed in Pet Sematary. I was obsessed when I was younger. There was a period when I stopped reading him, just to read other authors. But here recently I have picked back up reading his books. I read Doctor Sleep as soon as it came out, and it sparked my love for King again. I foresee catching up with all his books. Dean Koontz is a great author. Some books I devour, and then others I am reading them like ??? what is going on! Overall I love his books though.

I have some John Saul books on my que to read! I have always wanted to read him, and when I see his books on sale I always pick them up for later.

I literally just watched the original My Bloody Valentine like 2 weeks ago!!! How awesome that you got to watch it being filmed! That would be amazing!!! So do you live by the mines? If you don't mind me asking??

H.L. Walton | 37 comments Heather one of my missions in life is to read every Stephen King book and I'll likely get to more Dean Koontz also and yes I agree with you about the scary movies. Always been a big fan of watching scary flicks with the lights outs :-)

I have read most of his early works. I read them in order of publication. I think the last book, besides Doctor Sleep and I forgot to mention Joyland, was Dreamcatcher. I have some catching up to do!!
Even though I love horror, one of my missions is to read everything by VC Andrews. Even though there is a ghostwriter, I still enjoy the books a lot! I think it's because we were forbidden by our parents, and the school to read them. Us girls would find a copy and sneak and read it out loud at sleepovers. It was considered too taboo for our young impressionable minds!

message 356: by H.L. (new)

H.L. Walton | 37 comments I haven't read Dreamcatcher. I used to own it but I lent it to someone before I had a chance to read it and never got it back. Also I've never heard of VC Andrews Heather. What genre are these books?

Hi everyone! I'm curious but they say that people who like horror/suspense books love roller coasters. I myself love roller coasters but don't know if that's just a coincidence.

I don't know that I'd classify them as pure horror, Helen. Her most famous series involved a woman, a widow, who had four children. Since the children were the product of an incestuous relationship, the grandmother never approved. The grandmother was rich, so the woman was forced to turn to her when her husband died. The grandmother locked them in the attic, and they (two boys, two girls) grew up there, while their mother courted another man, pretending that she didn't have children and stringing the children along, saying that one day she would reveal them to him. That was the "Flowers in the Attic" series. I think they did a movie (the grandmother, if I remember right, was putting rat poison in their food, trying to kill them little by little). Haven't read them since I was a teen, but found, like the John Saul books, that they were all so similar that I never read anything beyond the series.

H.L. Walton | 37 comments Thanks Linda. I have heard of Flowers In The Attic. Sounds like a very interesting tale and I have been told its really good.Certainly something I would like to read.

I love roller coasters too! I think it's the adrenaline rush we get from both those and horror that make us crave them!

VC Andrews is fiction. They are not horror, but they do give you the willies!!! They usually involve something terrible happening to the main character. I just love to read them, because I still have a little bit of that teenage rebellion left in me. To be told that you are not allowed to read something is going to make you want to read it more!! Plus the story lines are pretty good!

José (lectorconstante19) Hello everyone I just joined this group! My name is José and I've been a horror fan since I read my first Stephen King book at the age of twelve (that's why he's my favourite author).

Other horror authors that I enjoy reading are Jack Ketchum, Clive Barker, Bentley Little, Peter Straub and recently Nick Cutter.

I look forward to share books that I'm reading and get to know other horror fans here, happy reading :)

Erin Dunn (erinld2005) | 8 comments Hey! I love horror! I'm new to the group so just stopping by to say hi. :) Other than horror I read pretty much anything. If anyone hasn't read the graphic novel series Locke & Key by Joe Hill yet then I suggest it! That was the first graphic novel I ever read and it got me interested in horror graphic novels.

From the reviews I've read it's kind of a dystopia mixed with horror about a future with some sort of religious police that hunts down heretics, it sounds really good!

I have a lot of books left to finish but I hope to buy it soon.

Beth Ann | 5 comments Hi, my names Beth and my friend Mel has just kindly directed me to Goodreads. We've always been huge book lovers and can't believe both of us were completely oblivious to this wonderful site. I love thrillers, horror, fantasy and lots of supernatural stuff mostly but am open to reading new things and love to find new Australian writers with great books to read (especially undiscovered indie authors with diamonds in the rough). Mel was actually sent to Goodreads by a new Australia indie author on Facebook and she promptly told me all about it. I look forward to meeting new people and getting lots of recommendations for great new books!

The Tommyknockers is another good one byStephen King.

Yes it goes something like that.

Have you been watching the series Under The Dome? Based on his novel? It's really good. I think the new season starts at the end of the month in the UK.

message 393: by H.L. (new)

H.L. Walton | 37 comments I watched the first season Anna and thought it was OK but wasn't a huge fan. I think it would have been really good as a movie or a mini series though. It was really different from the book and I really liked the book. It's definitely one I'll pick up and read again.

message 394: by Anna (new)

Anna I never read the book, so I love the series. I do think it is being dragged out longer then it should have. So i agree with the mini series or movie.

I just want to know what this dome is! Don't spoil it =P
