I haven't been to any of these events in quite some time, but I was a regular for every one of them from 2002 till about 2007. Financial ugliness and other issues in life have conspired to take away some of my fun times. Once I hit that lottery, though... ;)

I love Z-hills. I've even considered moving out of the big city and finding a nice little corner of Z-hills to call home. Maybe someday. :)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Unfortunately, I lost the pointy stick. That's why we came up with the SCAREDY CAT CEMETERY trying to conjure up the dead (those who have never made a post.)It's under the topic WAKING UP THE DEAD. Check it out!

Monica Brinkman (mmarie) | 4 comments Sorry I haven't been as active as I'd like in the group. I do check in and read posts. If anyone is interested in being interviewed live, on-camera on our internet studio, the It Matters Radio broadcast, send us your info @ http://www.itmattersradio.com/#!itmat...

Thought the group may be interested. I'll do my best to comment more often as I love 'Scaredy Cats'

message 170: by Monica (new)

Monica Brinkman (mmarie) | 4 comments Have to comment also that I do enjoy Roberts' stories also. Welcome Susan Jo.

Monica Brinkman (mmarie) | 4 comments The Turn of the Karmic Wheel

My speciality is speculative fiction - always touch of horror within the pages, though genre's are mixed. My next book, The Wheels Final Turn has been accepted by my publisher and should be out sometime next year.

I host a weekly on-line, on-camera live radio broadcast each week and work full-time also, so it does get hectic.

message 173: by Linda (last edited Dec 04, 2014 05:04PM) (new)

Linda | 615 comments Hi all,
I live in RI, originally from the Midwest. I used to read everything King wrote hot off the presses. I read a lot for work, not all in this genre, so it's my "junk food" reading (though sometimes I can get away with a few).

I've never had any experiences myself, but heard a couple of good ones from what we called a "non-trad" student in WI (meaning she wasn't in the 18-22 range--they tend to make things up).
I currently teach at a college that owns a lot of old mansions, and the stories abound (ergo the comment about students making things up). I've been in mine until 12 or 1 am in the past, and never had anything happen, other than finding the dark hallway lit by the red exit signs creepy on certain floors.
However, I've heard some good (and credible) stories--again, from staff/grad students, bonafide adults--about their experiences. The one building which is famously haunted will be the location of my new office starting in January, so if anything happens, I'll let you know!

In the meantime, these suggestions might be outside of your usual lists: Carlos Fuentes: short story "Chac Mool" and novella "Aura" (he also did a riff on Dracula called "Vlad", but i didn't find that one as good). For suspense, Carlos Ruiz Zafon's "Shadow of the Wind"(not supernatural, but the beginning is creepy and will hook you in). Also by Ruiz Zafon is "The Angel's Game" (Faustian). And not typical vampire material, but if it's available in English, Federico DeSanctis' "The Antiquarians" was good.

I don't like zombie books, but I did find the questions behind "Handling the Undead" very intriguing.

message 174: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Linda, glad to have you in the group and thanks for introducing yourself. We also want to welcome Carrie, Miss Des, Stacy, Angie and Ali. Please introduce yourselves and tell us a little something we might like to know.

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Welcome Carrie and Katey our newest members. Introduce yourselves.

message 176: by Eric, The Crypt Keeper (new)

Eric Layton (vtel57) | 697 comments Mod
Gurglings and ruminations to all the new members!

Step right in. Don't mind the cold and dampness. That's the way we like it here. There are a few spider webs draped about here and there and squeaking coming from the walls, but that's all quite normal, I assure you.

Let the creepiness envelope you. Everyone here is mostly harmless; just a bit strange, though.

Have FUN!

message 177: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Members, if you have never done so please introduce yourself, even if it's no more than to say hello. We like to think that we are a friendly tight net group with one thing in common horror. Let's keep it in a family tradition even if the family is the ADAM's, MUNSTER'S or BATE'S.

message 178: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Hi all, sorry for the late intro. I am Carrie, born and raised in St. Louis, MO. I am a fan of wide range type of book, horror and thrillers at the top but will also admit I can easily curl up with a blanket and read a cozy mystery style book. I just finished The Dinner by Herman Koch last night and while it is not a horror novel, definitely recommend it. Excited to find some new authors and suggestions from the group

message 179: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne I recently joined but then had a run of bad luck and not so nice things happen in my life. Looking forward to 2015 being better. I love all things spooky and haunting ... Not real life though - it would probably terrify me! I loved books about witches and ghosts and mysteries as a kid, Scooby-Doo was my favourite cartoon and the Adams Family and Munsters my favourite t.v. Families. As I got older I couldn't read enough Stephen King or Anne Rice. I even dabbled with Ouija Boards and Tarot Cards for awhile. Now I am kept busy raising my 16 year old daughter and looking after a dog and a cat as well as trying to maintain a 140 year old house in the countryside of Eastern Ontario, Canada. I don't know if I really believe in ghosts and spirits coming back - my dad just died on Halloween Day. I sat at his bedside for four days and watched him die. Nothing happened when he died. And his spirit hasn't visited me. But I still love a good spooky story and Halloween will always be my favourite celebration of the year!

message 180: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Carrie, thank you for the introduction and we hope you have fun with the group.
Yvonne, sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Many of us have gone or will go through the loss of our parents. That's the sad part of life and our condolences are with you. Time doesn't heal the wounds it just allows us to deal with better.

message 184: by Kris (new)

Kris Gilbert (thekrumptstien) | 2 comments Hi, I just realized that I never introduced myself. I'm Kristen, from Bristol, NH. I've had a big year... I just bought my first house and got married. I live a very simple, introverted life (I even get to work from home), so I am thankful for this little bit of social stimulation. I'm happy to be a part of this group, in particular, as I really love all things horror. Ghost stories are my favorite, but I find myself gravitating toward anything "spooky". Well, the only exception is gore. I can tolerate it, but I really don't find it necessary in most cases. I am a lover of the works of "mainstream" horror writers (Anne Rice, Stephen King, Clive Barker...ect...), but look forward to branching out. Hopefully, this group will inspire me to try something new!

message 185: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Kristen, thank you for introducing yourself. Congratulations on your new house that is actually haunted by the way, and your new husband who is under investigation for the brutal murders that took place there. Were glad to have you and we didn't mean to spill the beans!

message 186: by Kris (new)

Kris Gilbert (thekrumptstien) | 2 comments hahaha! awesome! thank you!

message 187: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Welcome new members Cindy and Maneesh. You probably have a lot to say about yourselves so start talking. Were all ears, fangs, horns and rotten teeth!

message 189: by Chris (new)

Chris My name is Chris was asked to join by a friend of mine so here I am. I pick up a horror book every now and again but I do like short stories in that genre now. So I would be up for suggestions on books to read.

message 190: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Chris thank you for the introduction and welcome to the group. You'll find several short stories throughout the discussion topics, as well as some good recommendations by the members. Glad to have you and hope you have fun.

message 191: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Jessi welcome to the clan of creeps. Please introduce yourself, were dying...or maybe already dead, to know all about you. Muahahahah!

message 192: by Synn (new)

Synn | 39 comments Hahah You must have spotted me lurking. Hi everyone my name is Jessi, I enjoy reading on most occasions, I do work and go to school part time. I apologize in advance if I ever poof and become inactive. I do not see that happening though cause I do enjoy the good reads website a lot. As far as my reading interests I enjoy horror, some young adult, I am really picky, I don't enjoy the mushy romance books, but I am open to read whatever genre, I try to be open minded. I also enjoy books that make me laugh, and are quirky. I have yet to find a group though that recommends books on humor.. I am still searching haha.

message 193: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Our group recommends humor, as long as you think rolling heads, disembowelment's and people being dismembered and ran through wood chippers are funny? Sorry I can't stop laughing, just thinking about it! Oh by the way some of us have a demented sense of humor like Aileen and Eric, but don't tell them I told you.

message 194: by Synn (new)

Synn | 39 comments Ohh come on. Lots of horror movies have classic humor in them, just have to learn to appreciate the two together (:
I love horror comedies and Robert Englund stars in most of them. I love 1001 maniacs, he is hilarious.

message 195: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Okay, I get it. For example when Jack Torrance in the Shining started breaking in the door with an ax to kill Wendy. "Here's Johnny" he shouted.

message 196: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Wendi, we see you lurking in the shadows. Introduce yourself or we will show up at your house tonight. Just kidding!

message 197: by Synn (new)

Synn | 39 comments See! There is some humor. I am also personally a fan of Mel brooks and his films as well. I think horror movies and comedies are the best. Do you like any other genres Robert?

message 198: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Love Mel Brooks movies. Funniest movie I ever saw was Me, Myself and Irene with Jim Carey. I don't read books, so I can only comment on movies.

message 199: by Katey (new)

Katey McInnis (ktesta) Hey Guys! I'm Katey. I'm and English and Lit. major. I enjoy reading and writing. I'm currently reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series, I'm currently on the second books. I'm always open to discussion and conversations!

message 200: by Robert (new)

Robert Roberts (goodreadscomrobertroberts) Katey, nice to hear from you. Hope you are enjoying the group and having fun. We are all about conversations and discussions. Add your two cents worth anytime.
