Hi all, my name is Sarah and I am from Stephen King's home state of Maine, so how could I not love horror, mystery and suspense novels? I am happy to be here to discuss my favorite genre of books and movies.
Sarah, I'm a New Englander myself. Massachusetts! I love Maine! I go every summer. It's such a beautiful state. :)

Hi everyone! Like many here, I got an early introduction to horror. I loved the Twilight Zone, Tales From the Darkside, Monsters, Friday the 13th the series, and Freddy's Nightmares on TV growing up. I started reading horror very young (RL Stine, VC Andrews) then moved on to Stephen Kings The Stand when I was 11 or 12. I pretty much raised myself on a steady horror diet. I was one of those kids taking 10 books out a month from the library. I'm always on the lookout for horror entertainment, so hopefully I will get some good recommendations from the group.

I cut my teeth on most of the same shows you mentioned and King was the author that introduced me to all things macabre. What type of horror do you enjoy reading?
I've been reading a lot of "paranormal romance" books the last couple of years, but I am trying to get back into more horror because the romance books are really light on the paranormal part. I've read pretty much all the pre 2000's Stephen King, some newer stuff but I don't enjoy it as much. I used to read Dean Koontz and John Saul.. I've read a few short story collections this year that were horror, mostly about zombies. And I've got a lonnnggg list of things I want to read ( Joe Hill is at the top of the list, heard great things about Nos4a2). I like ghost stories most, but vamps and zombies are a close second and third.
I was cruising around on here looking for horror groups that are right up my alley - I see I have found another horror group that fits me. I love horror - fiction and true paranormal books - also love to watch horror movies and true paranormal movies.I like different horror books and I tend to read scary, creepy books.
I am looking forward to interacting with everyone on here.
Hi, everybody! The name's James, I live in western North Carolina with my wife and our 2 sons (we have a 17-year-old and a 6-year-old . . . and you think YOU know horror?). I've been a horror fanatic since the age of 4, when my dad took me to see THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN (yeah, I'm with you -- I'll never understand why he thought that was a good idea, but I'm glad he did). Some of my favorite writers are Stephen King, Joe R. Lansdale, Ed Gorman, Bentley Little, Graham Masterton, Nancy Collins, Gillian Flynn, and Robert R. McCammon. I'm also a huge movie geek -- some of my favorite horror films are THE EXORCIST and THE EXORCIST III, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, John Carpenter's THE THING, and David Cronenberg's THE FLY.I also tend to write some stuff every now and then. My published works include the novels MIDNIGHT RAIN, THE WICKED, ANIMOSITY, and UGLY AS SIN, the novellas OLDEN and ODD MAN OUT, and the collection PEOPLE ARE STRANGE. Also, just to prove I'm a movie geek, I wrote a book called 666 HAIR-RAISING HORROR MOVIE TRIVIA QUESTIONS. :)
So, that's me. Boring, huh? Thanks for listening, and nice to "meet" you all. :)

Welcome to our newest members. Sorry for the recent inactivity around here. Seems the holidays kept us all busy elsewhere. Hopefully, conversation will pick up now that things are back to "normal." HA!
Hello Everyone, I'm Isebella.I'm from Southern California, born and raised. I have a love for anything horror, paranormal and creepy. I'm a reader not a writer, but I do enjoy drawing and painting. I live with my family and my room has been critiqued and compared to a museum for the creepy decorum that I have on display. I'm a firm believer that Halloween decorations are to be used all year long and not thrown or stored away.
Nothing really left to say except that I've been accused of being a witch, part zombie and part vampire. Besides that, I'm pretty basic and I'm ok with that.
Welcome, Isabella (beautiful name, by the way)!
I'm not sure what the activity level has been like around here lately because I've been absent a bit myself. I'm pretty sure the creepy talk will be getting a bit more profuse as the Halloween season approaches.
Stick around. There are quite a few nice folks here. Very few are actually creepy. :)
Regards,
~Eric

Thank You for the warm welcome! I'm quite excited for any and all recommendations. Speaking of which, does anyone have recommendations for H.P. Lovecraft and Dean Koontz? They're next on my TBR list, but I'm not sure where to start with them. I'm open to any suggestions for any of their works.
For Lovecraft, just read it all in order. ;)
There is an excellent compendium of his stories called The New Annotated H.P. Lovecraft. It has it all along with interesting and informative footnotes from the editor.
There's another compendium that is also quite good called The Complete Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft.
Both these books are huge tomes. Lovecraft was a prolific writer. I suggest getting the hardcover books used. Don't try reading them, though. They will cause carpal-tunnel syndrome in your wrists. ;) Buy them to have them, but read the ebook versions if you have an eReader... much easier on the wrists.
As for Koontz... I've read a few of his books. Whispers is an older one, but it was quite good. Try it. :)

Welcome! For H.P. Lovecraft, really any anthology of his work is a great way to get a taste for his style. Check for ones that include The Dunwich Horror, Call of Cthulu and The Shadow over Innsmouth.
My personal favorite of his is the novella "At the Mountains of Madness." It follows a group of explorers searching Antarctica for creatures and civilizations buried beneath the base of a mountain range that reaches higher than the Himalayas. There's ancient creatures and folklore in droves, and it stands as a curious tale of its time in which we were still discovering and charting unexplored parts of our world.
Enjoy!
Hey im new, i love writing and im 12, ive been told im good at it and im proud of some of my work, this looks like a pretty dead website but im looking for a good place to post my books and get comments back.
Hello everyone!I'm Angel, a lover of everything horror! A wonderful friend just told me about this group and it looks great so I figured I'd join. I will do my best to be as active as possible here. I look forward to meeting like-minded horror enthusiasts and discovering new scary books to read.
I'm Debra. Certified scaredy cat. I started reading It because I can always put a book down if I don't like it. Found out Stephen King can surprise you when you least expect it. I thought I would see it coming. Nope. Glad to be here.

Hi Eric! Let’s see how long it takes for you to say hi back. I say it’ll take him a week to answer, anyone think longer?
Hi, Aileen!
You got lucky. I got the email notification just before clicking the off button on the computer.
I need to click it now, though. Time for beddy-bye! :)
