Dawn | 3250 comments I know...he can never be anyone else in my mind but Jamie...

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I was watching part 2 of the series tonight and I thought it was funny how I can look at the character of Jaime (don't know if it is his personality or looks) and just melt. I mean I am in my 60's and I am still melting and wishing I could be Claire. So silly, since I am happily married.

message 103: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments Yes, can sometimes make us feel like old lechers lol. But there is so etching about his eyes and that smile of his. Not to worry Dee, pretty soon they will have to age him to 50.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments When I saw Jamie's back...it was just so real. I don't know why, but I pictured Geillis older. It's great.

message 105: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments He will still be too young, but my oh my what a hunk!

message 106: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I am also reading the book as I watch the series. Tonight I thought it was strange that they got a lot of the parts out of order. For instance, Claire was given her surgery at the end, and she had already met Gillis Duncan and watched Jaime get beat for Laoghaire. If I remember right that happened several days later. I also don't remember Column telling Claire could leave on the following Saturday.

I know that the story is NOT going to exactly follow the book, I get that, but I was really surprised that the things were out of order.

message 107: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I think they just have to consolidate stuff to get that book completed. I just saw the preview of next week and they showed something that really isn't in the book anywhere. I am just going to have to suck it up on those moments.

message 108: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments Oh and I completely agree Karen...his back was so real looking. He was interviewed on Twitter yesterday and said it takes an hour to get to look like that

message 109: by Sandra (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11246 comments Mod
It amazes me to think about how many things/scenes they will need to consolidate or just cut from the book to get it all in a few 1 hour shows...we all know this is a long book with a lot of stuff in it! I know it's to be expected that they will have to take some liberties with working it in to 1 hour shows & making it work. I'm just so thankful that I think they got the main characters right. I do agree, Karen, that I expected Geillis to be a little older. And yes, Jamie gives me tingles! lol Love the looks he's giving Claire.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod
Geillis was always a little murky for me. When she first appeared in the episode, I didn't have an image for comparison. Her personality, however, seemed dead on.

message 111: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I have to remind myself to not be influenced by future books and just keep to Outlander. I was less affected by Gellis' age than I was that it was her translating for Claire during the judgment. In the book it is Mrs Fitzgibbons.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod
Now that you mention it, that feels more familiar. I guess it's one way to create a relationship with her now rather than later.

message 113: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments That is what I was thinking. Getting that relationship going sooner. The preview of next week has me stressed about how they are going to portray Loughhaire over this season though.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod
Me, too!!! I'm SO not a fan:) Guess I'll need to "buck up" for that %#$& kiss.

message 115: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee, wasn't ignoring you...just trying to figure out a way to respond AND stay true to my hubby:) *sigh*

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11246 comments Mod
Jamie is just *sigh*worthy...any woman with a pulse would admire him. I'm very happily married also, Dee, but it doesn't lessen my reaction to seeing Jamie! lol

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod
Haha! Glad to see we're not alone in this:)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments My grandfather used to say, you're either blind or dead not to notice the opposite sex...no matter how old we are, I think Jamie will make us sigh...

Karen ♐ wrote: "My grandfather used to say, you're either blind or dead not to notice the opposite sex...no matter how old we are, I think Jamie will make us sigh..."

Appreciate that, Karen! I'll lust guilt free:)

message 121: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments Mine did too. His favorite was, "you only stop learning and looking when you die"

message 122: by Sandra (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11246 comments Mod
And I think it's safe to say, they have no problem showing a nude (or partially nude) Claire as we've gotten that in both episodes so far...and my hubby didn't mind looking! Couldn't blame him - I'm waiting for Jamie's scenes! ;)

message 123: by Ness (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ness (ness-reads) | 222 comments as I have missed a bit I'll try to write my thoughts so far at once:)

so Ladies tomorrow is THE DAY for me yehaaaw! I can watch the serie starting tomorrow..I can barely sleep thinking about it and it is 2 am here:)

you are right all of you about Jamie hotness, maleness and swoonworthiness..and that just from watching some of the pictures and trailers..

As I understand the bloody kiss will be today with Logathaire..I just CAN't help hating her. Technically she didn't do anything till now but her trying to pry Jamies attention from >Claire..grr

But the Stables master is right in the book: he needs a woman and Loagathaire will be a girl even with fifty.

I hold my breath as Claire's thoughs about hHamish and Dougal and Colum..feared she would confrint him..

I have to say I'm inpressed with Claire's thinking process till now, her ability to analyse her situation and her surroundings..I know there will be moments when this is not the case but till now (30% ) not bad.

oh so many other things buit ok for now

message 124: by Ness (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ness (ness-reads) | 222 comments oh her connection with Jamie , how he confides to her is immediate..I can't wait to see the chemistry in the serie:)

Ness wrote: "oh her connection with Jamie , how he confides to her is immediate..I can't wait to see the chemistry in the serie:)"

It steams right through the screen. He's mastered his "look" and sexy smile at her. *sigh*

message 126: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I think today was the first I really really saw how hot ghee two are going to be after episode 7.

message 127: by Sandra (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11246 comments Mod
I think the chemistry is perfect! Jamie looks at her with that "look"...and you can feel Claire's feelings for him growing even though she still plans to escape & try to go back. I am so glad I read this book right before the series started. It's not about the comparison to me - it's about seeing it come to life in full color on the screen.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod

Ditto for me.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11246 comments Mod
And I'll have to admit that was not the male butt I wanted to see! Just sayin'...;)

message 130: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I completely agree I get so frustrated with all of the negative people. I really think they are doing great. I mean things like Column's legs, Jamie's back. O

Oh and I really didn't want to see that butt either. Sigh...I am torn. I want to get to the wedding (ergo, the wedding night) but then I know we will be fine until next year,

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod
My husband and I watched it together and when the butt scene emerged, we both groaned at the same moment.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments It is definitely like seeing the book come alive. I cant wait until they're married. I love the looks he's giving her.

message 133: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments Well, and she was starting to give him some of those looks back in this episode.

Doing a quick (if one can call 33 hours of narration quick) relisten. I am up to the travel to Fort William, and I love their banter. "Sleep in your room with you!" I could probably read that scene all day and not get the same hit from it as I do listening to Davina Porter's narration of it.

message 134: by Sandra (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11246 comments Mod
I know what you mean, Dawn. Love Porter's narration of Outlander! She brings it to life.

Maybe they're preparing us for Jamie & Claire's love scenes with all these partially nude shots...seem there are a couple in each episode thus far.

As far as the negativity goes...everyone is entitled to their opinion (if you don't like it, why continue watching it??) And my opinion is - they're doing a super great job with translating the book to the screen. I do wish they didn't have to cram so much into such a short time with only 16 weeks to get through the book but thus far, I am very happy with what they've done with it.

message 135: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I know what you mean...at first, I was really happy that it would be one book per season. Then I realized how much they would have to condense. Outlander is 33 hours narrated, and I think that is the shortest book, or at least close. Trying to get that into 16 hours ( and that is stretching it because each episode is really about 50 minutes) had to be hard. Like having Geillis be involved in Claire 's life much faster etc.

message 136: by Jonetta (last edited Aug 24, 2014 11:09AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod
Did you both listen to Ron Moore's commentary after the end of this episode? He mentioned they left out a lot in this one because it was detail not story. I couldn't really tell having read the book over a year ago.

message 137: by Sandra (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11246 comments Mod
I think I must have missed the commentary...hubby switched channels pretty quickly. I'm going to watch last night's episode again this afternoon so I'll listen for that.

IF I had a complaint (which I do NOT) it would be that it has to move so quickly...condense so much to get it into 16 episodes.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod
My hubby turned quickly, too. I watched it again this am:)

message 139: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I watched it several times (I am voles to knowing the beginning song by heart) but did other stuff in between. I did see DG's statement. I don't think anything necessary was left out, just seemed we got to the ear nailing fast. I was relieved to see the incident with Mrs Fitzgibbons was only a daydream not real.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod
I was happy about Mrs. Fitz, too, as that would be a big change from the book. I think it was the director's way of showing Claire thought about the possible repercussions of telling someone the truth.

message 141: by Sandra (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11246 comments Mod
I agree...I was thinking NO before they revealed it as a dream. That would have been too far away from the book.

message 142: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I need to figure out how to turn off auto correct lol

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15099 comments Mod
You can do it from your general settings (I think) but why bother? We understand you.

I've just resorted to rereading before posting after several embarrassing mishaps:)

message 144: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments Lol. I went in and turned off auto-correction and shortcuts but kept spellcheck on. This this just randomly changes words. It isn't even always misspelled.

message 145: by Ness (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ness (ness-reads) | 222 comments Are you ladies all done with the book?

message 146: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11246 comments Mod
I was surprised when I first read it...but then I understood that Jamie had to punish her & she had to accept her punishment or both of them would have lost all the men's respect forever. We have to remember the time period & customs of that time, I think.
