Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Slept through till 5.45 and then was utterly confused as to what day of the week it was! Tossed and turned but then didn’t wake till the alarm, although feel quite drained today and coughing a lot, plus my athletes foot has randomly reoccurred, no idea why. Friend gave me an easter treat when she came round yesterday, downside is she is vegan, so I’ve been given vegan chocolate. It’s one of the things that gives vegans a bad name, while I appreciate they don’t want to contribute to an industry they don’t support, they end up pushing their values on others. When I buy treats for non-vegi friends, I never think of checking the label. Got an itchy ankle, that kitten better not have given me fleas! Shouted at my computer earlier, our Christmas shutdown dates have been announced – it’s only April!!

Hope the aquarobics helps Flo, I know someone else who does that as she can’t easily exercise. At least you get to do something Alicia. Fingers crossed for your project Kelly and that you get some r & r after. Good luck with the laptop. I don’t like the app, but if they have updated it, I might give it another go.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve just had a ’lovely’ email from someone with a Brazilian address but with a name I recognised from a school reunion. This one said in French my accounts have been hacked and wanted €526 in Bitcoins or pornographic videos of me will be sent to all my colleagues, friends and parents. Be warned folks. If you’re on my lists you’re in for a treat. I’m not paying nuffin.
I’d love to know where he’ll send my parents copies to as the are both long gone.

Are you based in Jersey Kelly?? I'll be there in August for a family wedding - perhaps you've got some good tips on worthwhile places to visit while I'm there!

The aquarobics really does help Desley...... but I think it'll be a long time into the future before my bingo wings disappear (if ever) lol

Must stop this last minute malarky. I think it is the most rubish application ever but I have a better chance of getting an interview by sending in something than if I sent nothing.

I've noticed from comments made by friends and family that making 'last minute' applications seems to be very popular so you're not alone

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, the wind has dropped but we've got the haar! it should lift though.

Daughter was telling me that one of her friends left the submission of her (degree) dissertation so late that her upload was actually two minutes past the deadline...

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Good Morning.

We have been promised a good weekend weatherwise, it is cloudy at the moment but thin clouds that should go quite quickly in the sun. I have nothing planned at all for the weekend!! A nice long walk would be lovely - but I don't think I could manage with the dog (who is now 12 and starting to show her age) and Mum in her wheelchair. Especially with all the hills here. 🙄

My phone needs charging twice a day now, I think it is time to look for a new one. Particularly because the hospice, hospital, district nurse and daycare all regularly contact me. I have an iPhone5 but although I do like FaceTime and imessages I think that I will have to look for a cheaper phone. I want to keep the sim I have as it is part of my landline/broadband package. What do any of you recommend?
I don't use the phone to come on here or read as it is a small screen. It can spell better than this Fire though. 😁😂 it takes ages to write anything as I have to keep going back to correct it.

I am, Rosemary. Been here 33 years. When are you over in August? The Battle of Flowers is on Thursday 8th August, it's a festival and parade. Floats covered in flowers and some pretty out there designs.

What are you into? There are some good local art galleries, and often ad-hoc exhibitions. If you're into a bit of history the Jersey War Tunnels are worth a visit. These are the maze of tunnels created by the Germans during the time the island was occupied. It was used as an underground hospital. www.jerseywartunnels.com

have a look at www.jersey.com for some ideas of what to do.

Loads of lovely restaurants, picturesque bays, sandy beaches - I sound like a travel advert!

The zoo is fab. It is all about conservation, and releasing animals back into the wild. The animals have huge enclosures and if they don't want to be seen by you they simply don't come out! Luckily, they often do. Set up by Gerard Durrell of My Family And Other Animals fame, and now run by the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. www.durrell.org

Let me know if I can help with anything, x

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Jud, I have my back-up drive permanently plugged in at the moment!
Kath, spot on! Plus my fingers are playing up and getting sore so I am dictating scenes on my phone and emailing them to myself. It's surprisingly accurate.
Thanks Desley, I am still full-on with the new venture and writing but am off work this week. Hey-ho, that's what holidays are for!!!

We have friends coming round for lunch on Sunday, and the chap is a computer whizz. Guess what he'll be looking at before he can eat?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Felt really poorly last night, was running a temp and some weird lightheadedness that made me go to bed early but stopped me sleeping. Feel much better today, just coughing a lot and a bit sinusy. Neighbour is looking after her granddaughter today, so have to fend for myself and also the start of 10 days of random catsitting. We are calling today Fake Friday, but it’s not that good as we don’t get the early finish! Going to the retail park after work for birthday cards and wrapping paper, might treat myself to a subway.

Hope you enjoy Jersey Flo, have you been before? The Festival of Flowers is nice. I’m going in September again this year, for the book festival again. Good luck with the job application Jud, we used to be that rubbish at work deadlines that I submitted one with 31 seconds to spare! Good luck finding a new phone Janet, I need to do that soon. Sorry your fingers are sore again Kelly, is it coincidence you’ve invited a computer whizz round for tea when your computer is acting up?? At least you can get more done without having to deal with the day job.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Desley, ahem *coughs* it is entirely incidental that a computer guru is coming for lunch on Sunday - honest. Hmmm better ask him to get here early.

Peter James isn't doing the Festival of Words this year. Saw him yesterday and he said he is at, I think, Crimefest, or whatever the new one in London is.

I think you said you'll be here for the whole festival, so we can go to a few things, and maybe grab some dinner with Gwyn and Debs.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hi!

Back in Bangkok.

Last full day with our friends. They're off tomorrow. We're here until next Wednesday.

It's very hot.

message 10618: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Actually it's glorious weather here as well :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Oh, the joy of 4 days off work and sun shining - although would rather be seeing it an hour later! Need to balance doing some decluttering and taking advantage of the nice weather (and not just for getting washing pegged out!), so I feel like I've done 'something fun' with the long weekend.

Thanks Alicia, I get frustrated as I think 'it's just a cold, I'm sure I never used to be affected like this'! Kelly, I'm debating whether to come Tue-Mon or Tue-Sun, hoping I'll book it this weekend. Would be great to see some things with you, and have some food with you guys. Enjoy Patti!

message 10620: by Kelly (last edited Apr 19, 2019 03:37AM) (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Yay - the sun is shining and it's getting hot! Okay, I'll be stuck in the study for another few hours but hey-ho, at least I can see the sunshine.

Look forward to catching up, Desley. We are appearing at the Festival of Words but I don't know when yet. Will let you know.

All I can hear is lawnmowers buzzing away and our neighbour bashing something with a hammer. The sounds of a bank holiday.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Well, decided at 9.30 I really need to get a life, as I was rather happy at the thought of getting a second wash load done!! I've done pretty much everything on my list for today, done half the things in the kitchen I wanted, but also spent an hour sat outside in the sun reading, so quite happy really. Lucy thought it was too hot though, she gave up at 2.30 and took herself upstairs to bed!

Yes, I'm looking forward to catching up too. Will definitely come and see you at the festival. Hope you got to spend some time outside today, we had a few lawnmower sounds too.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Up early again, first washload pegged out, will do the next one shortly. Lovely and sunny again. Got a couple of errands to do today, neighbour wants me to take her to the retail park, feeding my friends cats at tea time, then going to a friends house for tea as my brother is over, so having a nice catch up. Popped to Lidl after tea last night, they have started selling Jersey Royals, so got some for tea tomorrow. Annoyingly last night went to put the side lights on (the ones that I only fixed in Feb!) and they both went, it took 12 months to get one replaced, lets hope I don't take that long this time!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Another productive day, got more housework done than I had planned, and still ended up with half an hour before my neighbour was ready - had to decide whether to do some more decluttering in the kitchen or reading in the sun - reading in the sun won! Then decided to read at the retail park while my neighbour went into Next and carried on when I got home, till I finished my book. Now spending a bit of time with the girls before feeding my friends cats and then having a nice catch up with friends and family - gin has been packed!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4839 comments Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "...reading in the sun won!..."

As it should. There will always be housework, and cats.

And neighbors. But, paraphrasing Flannery O'Connor, A good book is hard to find.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Well, had a lovely time with friends, but regretting that last gin now! Tried nettle gin last night, don't think I'd have it again. Brother is coming at 9 to go through my loft, I've already fed mine and my friends cats and stripped the bed. Was so nice outside when I walked to my friends, so think after my brother goes, I'll be sat outside reading again! So far for tea we have jersey royals and salted caramel chocolate cake!

Happy Easter

message 10642: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments It is indeed Madam.
As Kath said, it's a proper Easter

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Well, an interesting day, we decided to sort my brothers stuff outside cos the bags were dusty, part way through doing so, a rabbit hopped down the street to us! My response was 'hello, Easter Bunny!'. Very friendly, let us stroke it, but we were concerned about it just wandering round - fortunately Lucy was distracted and didn't notice it. Managed to find it's owner, it had escaped from the garden and apparently not for the first time, it's owners said last time it was taken to the RSPCA, so they had it microchipped. Irony is that the people next to where this one lives also had a rabbit that wandered down our street years ago, which is why I started there! Could only happen on my street! Was quite windy today, so didn't get as much time sitting outside as I'd like.

Still, how appropriate.

Maybe it just wants to get on with its job.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Morning all, another nice day. Didn't do all my Sunday chores yesterday, so some of those to do, and neighbour is away, so am catsitting for the next week. Hopefully it won't be as windy and I can spend most of the time sat outside reading.

Yes, it was very appropriate Alicia!
