yes yesterday did get cold and the wind round here got up towards night
It isn't as bad this morning :-)
We had a beautiful sunrise over the Pennines

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments It was cold here yesterday morning, fingers felt like ice after I had put the washing out! Even though I had very little energy yesterday, I still found it hard lying on the sofa doing very little. Feeling better today, got my Sunday chores and the washing up to finish, then going to an Easter fair at the rescue Lucy is from, and a bit of food shopping on the way home.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4841 comments Went swimming in the outdoor pool (followed by hot tub) because the air temperature was perfect, and I just couldn't pass it up.

By 'swimming' I mean floating around, stretching everything, walking, with gravity down to a minimum with the water. Not too many other people in the pools - silly people.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments It felt colder this morning, although I didn't have to scrape ice off the car this morning.
No plans for today, just resting and reading. It's been busy the last two weeks with hospital appointments with Mum.
I've reduced my hours at work because of using up holidays taking Mum to all the various appointments.

I'm trying to sort out a couple of breaks for myself later in the year - just for me.
I have two weekends sorted taking Mum away and a half promise for another.

My niece is busy finishing her third book, the first one is now available in Swedish and French as well as English and Welsh.

message 10556: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well done that niece!

Nice calm Sunday in prospect and I don't even have to cook the tea. Sister is taking a turn and it's only a short walk round to her place.

Jim | 21812 comments Palm Sunday service, gathered at school to walk to the church. It was cold, lord but it was cold
But had a crack with folk over coffee and cake after the service back in the warm :-)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Really cold here, the wind is strong and it knocking all the blossoms off and frying the new leaves. Feeling a bit disorientated as the Isle of Wight ferry has just gone up the river. 😁 I assume it’s gone for a repair but you never know these days.

Blown off course? :-)
The wind has dropped a bit here, it's still chilly but not as bad as it was

Palm Sunday services in sunny California, and then one of the people in our part of the building had organized brunch for the 4th floor East - and we had a lovely community event. Some people are the originals who opened this place in 2000; some of us have been here less than a year. Good to meet people in manageable bunches.

This is a place that makes it easy. You can participate as much or as little as you wish, but the system pulls you in and gets you started. We had hosts, wore a red dot on our nametags for 90 days (newbies are welcomed by everyone), and have met at least a hundred people.

It is important: your new friends will see you through moving to AL, losing a spouse, major illnesses - because they know you.

I've already had the pleasure of doing my bit - and look forward to more.

There are many groups, but not too many cliques. It's almost as if you're going to be here forever. :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Managed to sleep through till 6, turned over then didn’t wake up again till 6.50. Quite snuffly today, but do feel better. Probably doesn’t help that the wind was quite bitter at the easter fair, which was mainly outside, took hours to get warm after. Contemplated having a bath, but was concerned it would make me worse. Had fun and games at teatime last night, a young male kitten, looked about 4 months old turned up on our street, wanting to play with Lucy and Tigs, neither wanted to play, but being a young male, didn’t get the hint! It ended up running into both mine and my neighbours houses, Lucy was very good, she was hissy, but seemed to appreciate it was a baby and not to hit him. Had an interesting conversation with a friend, that I need to bring up again when she hasn’t had a drink – was saying the Jersey book festival dates have been released and I am going over for it again and said we’ll have to go to our local one this year, then she said her favourite author is touring this year, so I said I’d go with her – she is doing America over the summer, so depending on if her hubby really will be happy being left home alone, I might be going to New York in August.

Glad you managed to have a rest day Janet, hope you can manage to sort out a couple of breaks for yourself, glad work have allowed you to reduce your hours. That is very impressive of your niece. Sounds a lovely community Alicia, am glad it was the right move for you. Glad you are having a good break Patti. At least you are getting through your TBR list Jud and getting paid for it!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Afternoon all, too windy to go to my beach hut so I am a bit grumpy. This also seems to be a day for spurious threads needing deleted. They always come in a bunch.
Younger daughter is at home "studying", currently on series 7 in prep for us watching GoT new episode tonight. Not distracting at all oh no.

Sounds like you are almost part of the furniture, Alicia :o) I hope you continue to have such good experiences.

I wish I was getting through my TBR list quicker even with listening while at work.

Frustrating. Can you at least find bit of time to write or read when you're not busy, or do you have to look busy?

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

I have to look busy, I don't think I'd get away with reading a book at my desk but I can get away with listening to one :o)

I have a board meeting today and the minutes to write up afterwards so I'll have something to do! Sod's law that I also have a migraine as well, must go on the hunt for a nearby pharmacy to get some strong painkillers, paracetamol and ibuprofen are only taking the edge off but not doing much.

message 10583: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments take care of yourself, have you any idea what sets your migraine off?

message 10584: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Glad to say I've never had a migraine though my mum had them when we were young - can't have been connected... can it? ;)
Off to repot more tomatoes. I'm sure the ones I repotted yesterday have grown overnight.

message 10585: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think it's stress and tiredness or maybe related to changes in my sleep pattern. I hardly got any when the kids were really young and I was up at all hours of the night so perhaps there is a hormone element as well.

Think the migraine is lifting now, yay! I went to the chemist after the meeting to get paracetamol with codeine in case I need it :o)

I hope everyone else is having a better morning

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Had another relatively decent sleep, so actually got to work early for the first time in these hols! More snuffly and coughing than yesterday. Walked in with one of my new colleagues who said he was surprised I didn’t have a purple car! Told him I didn’t know what made him think I like the colour purple! Friend is coming round to pick up her dog food after work. Such a shame about Notre Dame.

Shame you have to look busy Jud – are you not able to read on your phone using the kindle app? Glad your migraine seems to be lifting.

message 10587: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I have used Kindle Cloud Reader before Desley, I don't like to push my luck too much though. I've gotten away with it so far but that doesn't mean I always will.

There are a few jobs at the minute that I might apply for. I'll not know what to do with myself if I get a new job where I actually have to do stuff :o)

That made me laugh Kath - this retirement lark is to be recommended.

Alicia - I've joined an aquarobics class - exercise in water certainly not for the faint-hearted - but as you say, without gravity taking it's toll!

message 10589: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Hello, apologies for radio silence. I am almost at the end of a massive project that is taking every hour I am not at the day job, or the few hours I manage to sleep. Am shattered but need to keep on going to see it through. Nearly there.

Anybody got any laptop knowledge? I have a Surface Pro, and the scroll mouse and touch screen stops working about every 10 mins or so. I need to close the cover, wait a moment, and then open up again.

I can't afford for it to break so either need to do something to get this one working properly or get a new laptop.

If I retire at 67, which I think is the age in Jersey now, then I have 14 years to go. Perhaps I'll win the lottery before then!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Make sure you’ve got all the most recent driver and firmware updates Kelly.

That east wind blowing here just now is absolutely cutting. Due to calm down over the next two days though, thank goodness

It was almost humid

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4841 comments T4bsF (Call me Flo) wrote: "exercise in water certainly not for the faint-hearted..."

There are those classes here. Since I'm not allowed to go aerobic (my cells don't produce energy that fast), I don't go to those - they look like fun, though. Here you participate as much or as little as you like in the classes.

I go on my own, when I feel up to it. It is very laid-back exercise - some walking, some isometrics, some stretching - nothing at all strenuous.

It's far better than not doing anything.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each! Have you caught up with yourself, Kelly, just to find that you can't write? I hate computer problems. Something we take for granted most of the time can turn round and bite us.

Fine weather here will see me out in the garden weeding again.
