McKensie and Lara

Torch had been searching at orphanages all afternoon. None of them seemed to have gained a child. But there were still more to visit, and more nurseries as well. So he kept looking.

Damon flew into Lexi's room and smiled "a little angel wants to be with her mommy!" He tucked Taylor into the blanket to keep her warm.

Lexi woke up when Damon came back. Her eyes flew wide open when she saw what he had in his arms, and she immediately tried to sit up. Pain shot through her back and she moaned, laying still again. "Taylor..." she whispered, moving her hand slowly so she could hold the girl's hand.

Damon smiled and leaned down carefully placing her in her arms. "She's absolutely fine...diaper was changed and not a scratch on her..."

Lexi smiled happily, and kissed their daughter's forehead. "I'm so happy to hear that." she said softly, holding her close. "Thank you for bringing her back." She whispered.

Damon nodded and sighed "Lex...I need to talk to you...about her power." He said slowly running a hand through his hair.

Lexi stiffened and looked up at him. "Her power? But she doesn't have any power yet... she's too young!" She said. A frown pulled tight on her features. "What is it Damon?" She whispered. "What's wrong?"

Damon sighed deeply taking Taylor's tiny hand "she's just as powerful as Dem, even more so...she collects everyone's powers she duplicates them for herself..."

Lexi sucked in a deep breath. "What?" She asked. "What? No... that's not possible!" She cried. "They said that when they took my..." she mumbled, and then quieted, as if realizing what she had been about to say. She turned her face into the pillow, tense with fear and worry.

Damon took away the pillow "when they took what?" He asked his voice a bit stern "Lex what have you not told me?"

Lexi visibly winced and shook her head, covering her face with her hands. She couldn't look at him right now. She couldn't bear to look when she felt shame and guilt digging at her gut.

Damon immediately pulled her hands down "Alexis.."

Lexi looked everywhere but right at him when he pulled her hands away. Her eyes scooted up to his for a millisecond, and she quickly scrunched them closed again. "There's a lot I haven't told you." She whispered, barely audible. "I... I tried to hint at it before... and you said it didn't matter..." She whispered.

Damon searched through his brain trying to think of when he dismissed something she said but he couldn't! "I'm listening now! Lex we are a team and I need to know everything how am I supposed to keep our family safe if I'm left in the dark!?"

Lexi sucked in a breath that sounded a little too much like a sob. She scrunched up her face and turned it away from him, hot tears stinging her eyes. She was having a very hard time breathing normally because of the pain in her chest. "You don't understand!" She whimpered, "I-I can't tell..."

Damon felt pure anguish for her but also now...for himself. They promised to never keep secrets from each other! She knew something that depended on his family's safety and she wouldn't tell! He got off the bed frustrated and left the room needing to get out before he did or said something he would regret.

Lexi watched him leave, and the tears in her eyes fell, spilling onto the bed. She had never seen him like that, and because of her... it tore her heart out. Suck it up. You have to decide. Now. She told herself seriously. Which matters more? Your own wants? Or your family's safety? There was a simple answer to that. Lexi forced herself to sit up, biting back an anguished cry as she did so. Standing, she breathed slowly to dispel the nausea and then walked out to find Damon. She looked up at him slowly. "If I tell you. You have to promise to take care of our children for me. Ok?" She asked, her voice soft.

Damon frowned and looked up at her, on his lap were a pile of bills and letters from the counsel "what do you mean?...I won't take care of them without you!"

Lexi bit her lip, looking down. "You'll have to." She whispered. "Because you're right. Our family's safety is more important than my want to stay with you." She said softly, not looking at him. "I should have told you long ago. But I wanted to stay with you longer. It was selfish of me, I know. And I'm sorry. Taylor is not human, nor demon, nor angel. And neither am I. I was sworn not to tell anyone of this world that, or else I would be exiled from here. I'm sorry." She looked up at him slowly. "And this is not really what I look like." She looked down again in shame as her form started to waver. "Keep Dem and Taylor safe for me."

Damon listened in shock and unbelievemenf he couldn't even respond because she was gone. He swiped his arm knocking down the table of bills and letters, anger and heartbreak swelled within him. He heard Demetri wake up and sighed...how was he going to explain this?

Lexi felt the world spin, and before she could even finish her sentence and say 'I love you' she found her at home again. Well. Her birth home. And she no longer looked like she did two seconds ago. Two large wings had sprouted from her back. Large wings that's feathers stretched to at least six feet each and seemed to be made of pure blue light, as if they were constantly glowing. Her face had elongated, eyes becoming more cat like and larger. Her ears grew longer and pointed as well. She kept her red hair, and freckles still painted her now even paler skin. Before she could react, she was surrounded by her own kind. She knew where they would take her. They would lock her up for telling a demon what she was.

Damon just sat staring at the wall, he heard Demetri get up and turned "hey buddy..."

Lexi closed her eyes and allowed herself to be taken away as the tears slowly fell.
Dem slipped into the room and looked up at his father. "Hi Dad." He said softly. "I heard noise down here. Is everything alright?"

Damon sighed and shook his head "no I'm not son..."

Dem looked at his father in confusion and walked over, kneeling by him. "Dad...?"

Damon was crying which he never did except with Lexi "your mom left me..."

Dem became very distressed seeing his father cry. He looked up to him as someone strong to always go to. He thought it was impossible for him to cry, so seeing this was a shock. He took his hand in both of his small ones. "Mom's gone?" he asked, his small voice trembling. "Where did she go?" He asked softly.

Damon shook his head "I don't know..." He dried his eyes "we have to be the men and take care of Taylor...it'll be alright..."

Dem looked up at his Dad, not sure what to do or say. His small body was stiff with shock. His mom was gone, and his Dad didn't know where she was? "You're not going to go look for her?" He asked softly, tears filling his eyes.

Damon sighed "she said she wasn't anything of this world and then she disappeared completely...without even saying I love you...I don't know where to look Demetri...and maybe your mom doesn't want to be found."

Demetri just stared. His mother was an alien? Fine. He still loved her. But then his father said she didn't want to be found. "How could you believe that!?" He asked, shocked. "I thought you two loved eachother!" He cried, tears pouring down his small cheeks. He got up and ran to his bedroom, slamming the door. He immediately began preparing a sack to take with him. If his Dad wasn't going to find Mom, then fine. He would do it himself.
Mae went home with Zach and sighed feeling very lonely and the house empty.
