Carola - What are you reading this week?
Aurora y Ocaso by Antonio Vidal. It was a present from the author's daughter, who was a patient at a physician's office where I worked many years ago.

- Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?
Not at all, I have a few of them in my shelves. Being a native Spanish speaker-reader I thought it might be because "e" is not the most common letter as in English, but I just learned that actually it IS the most common in Spanish as well!

- What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
If it's a renowned classic that I know by name I go for it blindly. Otherwise I prefer to read a description before choosing.

- Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?
A bit harder than expected. I had a list of about 30 books I wanted to read soonish for various challenges, and this was the only one that didn't have an E.

- What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
I love any challenge that makes me narrow down my huge TBR for something specific.

Ain't I A Woman by bell hooks

Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?
No, I've got quite a few

What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
I quite often choose books based on title, it's one of the first things you notice other than the cover. Choosing it based on an arbitrary characteristic like letters can mean that you're forced to read something you might not have chosen otherwise - it's a risk that can go either way, which is good to do!

Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title? Not really. Just scanned my TBR list.
What do you think about choosing a book by its title? Like others I feel like using an arbitrary method to choose a book like this may lead you to read something you might not have otherwise.

What do you think about choosing a book by its title? Don't we all do this anyway?

To find a book that I actually wanted to read right now, yes. Surprisingly! I'm currently cutting down on my TBR so I didn't have that many options.

What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
It's quite fun and easy, as it doesn't require much thinking, which can be good or bad. It's nice to have a few easy challenges on the list!

I'm reading Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. I wanted to read it for a while because it's recommended by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

- Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?
No, I had other ideas, like Sidharta by Hermann Hesse, Victoria by Daisy Goodwin, Agaat by Marlene Van Niekerk or Play It as It Lays by Joan Didion...

- What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
It's a fun way to narrow down the books choice .

It was a little challenging because I also wanted a book that would work for Diverseathon!

I would never read a book solely because of the title, but I love books with beautiful titles.

Utopia by Thomas More Utopia by Thomas More
- Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?
Yes, LOL I thought I had one many times until I realized that there was an "E" hiding in the title somewhere.
- What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
I think it's okay, I mean I think many of us are guilty of reading bad books with pretty covers. Sometimes a title will appeal to me. In this case I searched through my want to reads looking for one without an E.

The reason I originally wanted to read this is because of the Live action Cinderella story movie with Drew Barrymore, it was called "Ever After". Anyway, I watched that movie a bunch of times growing up and I was always interested in the book that she cherished (Utopia) and it's message which seemed to align with my own liberal views on what a society should be like. So, thus, I decided that one day I would read it, and here I am.

It was not difficult to find a book without an E in the title.

It is kinda of fun. I guess that is why I like all the different challenges- it requires me to look at things in a different way, and that is always good!

Ashley (gotbookcitement) (ashleysgotbookcitement) | 20 comments I'm reading Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova.

It was kind of a challenge to find a book without an "e" in the title. Many words contain the letter e.

I'm not necessarily drawn to books because of their titles, usually their covers and synopsis get me more.

Yes, specially because I want to find the original and the Portuguse title without the letter E. So I'm going to re-read Pollyanna after 15 years. (:

With over 600 books in my To-Read List, No
- What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
I frequently try to 'attack' my to-read list by choosing a book by its title. For instance, in February, I plan to read as many books as I can with the word LOVE in the title.

message 71: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 24 comments - What are you reading this week?
This week I read Pax by Sara Pennypacker and Adulthood is a Myth by Sarah Anderson

- Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?
It was difficult to think of a title without an E, but after looking at this thread and my to-be-read plan, I realized that there were a lot more options than I realized.

- What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
I rarely choose a book based on its title, opting rather to focus on genre, content, and author. Sometimes, however, a title is just too intriguing to resist!

Aine | 179 comments What are you reading this week?
Small island by Andrea Levy

Was it difficult for you to find a book without an 'e' in the title?
Not really, I read it first and matched the category later!

What do you about choosing a book by its title?
I didn't really understand the significance of the title until after I read it - both Jamaica and Britain as small islands. I usually pick a book by plot or author over title, but a great title can be very tempting.

Only because I kept forgetting "the" has an "e". *face palm*

- What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
Well, generally I think you can tell a lot about the direction of a book by its title. It's like a mini-thesis. Picking a book under this prompt is especially picking a book at random. You're picking by a characteristic of the title, not the title. It's fun because it's like a to-read list scavenger hunt but I don't think it's necessarily a good way to figure out if you'll like a book.

Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?

No, not really. I think it's easier with a one word title though.

What do you think about choosing a book by its title?

I really didn't choose this book by the title - it was the first book I finished this year that fit the prompt. I have picked books based on the title before. An example would be The Strange Case of the Mad Professor: A True Tale of Endangered Species, Illegal Drugs, and Attempted Murder. I saw this on my library's on-line catalog and HAD to check it out!

I was a bit worried about it when I first saw the category, but finding one just fell in my lap. I was looking for something to read from the library and this just jumped out at me. I wasn't even actively looking for a book to fill this slot at the time.

A Kind of Intimacy by Jenn Ashworth

- Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?
It was a bit difficult - I didn't think it would be! I've got a whole pile of books waiting to be read and pretty much all of them had a least one 'e' in the title. This one came in my suggestions and I thought 'perfect'... :)

What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
I generally don't do it - the plot descriptor or recommendations are what gets me each time. Sometimes, however, the title
of a book is just too lovely or tantalizing to ignore.

I think it allows you to branch out more, and perhaps read a book you wouldn't have otherwise. However, I already had books without the letter E in the title, so I just selected one of those.

Donna This week I'm reading Blink by Malcolm Gladwell.

It was easy to find a book without the vowel 'e' in its title. Looking forward to reading a book about making decisions based on intuition rather than a long-drawn logical thinking process!

message 91: by J (new)

J Austill | 1116 comments What are you reading this week?

N or M? by Agatha Christie

Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?

Not at all. The only way this prompt could have been easier would be for it to require an E in the title. I have 20 books without E's in the title in my plan for 2017.

What do you think about choosing a book by its title?

I do it all the time. I've certainly been burned by a good title on a bad book, but it still says a lot about the author to be able to come up with a good title and it is often indicative of the story inside.

I think I more go by the blurb, because I wouldn't have chosen this one based on the title "Triptych" - didn't even know what that meant

message 93: by Matthias (new)

Matthias Stephan | 169 comments What are you reading this week?
Brooklyn by Colm Toibin

- Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?
Not particularly. This one and some others were already on my shelf. La disparation (Perec's French novel) and the English translation, A Void, are also on my list, but I didn't have a copy handy. I chose one without an 'e' in the author's name as well.

- What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
A lot of books have interesting titles, so that is a great reason to choose (knowing how much time some authors put into them). Tihs method, choosing an arbitrary reason related to the title, works well too. Author's name, Title, Book Length, Country of origin or setting, all seem like fine reasons to choose a book.

Was it difficult for you to find a book without an "e" in the title?
I thought it was going to be, but I picked this one up since it was next on my TBR pile, and it just so happened to fall into this category.
What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
I don't think I've ever read or bought a book strictly from its title, but to me it's the same principle as buying a book based on the cover or the name of the author.

Was it difficult to find a title that didn't have the letter e?
It was easier than I thought it would be. I just skimmed through the titles on my Kindle until I came to a title that fit.

How do you feel about picking a book by its title?
A catchy title will get me interested, though it's how well written the book is that keeps me reading. Joan Hess is my favorite mystery writer and I love her Maggody series, so I knew this would be a great weekend choice.

Surprisingly less difficult than I had anticipated. In fact I had several choices available on my Kindle or paperbacks I already own.

What do you think about choosing a book by its title?
Titles often help draw me in to a book .. if I don't like the title I'm not likely to read the book, unless it is by a real favourite author.
